Qantas extends status extensions until end June 2023 (previously December 2022)

I don't fully agree with this. All recent flights (both int'l and dom) that I have been on have been very full with a lot of business travel. At some point QF is also going to need to purge the number of people with WP/SG status that have only retained status due to the extensions.
I agree too many status holders around the traps now.

I was gifted QF Gold from status match, flown once & have extension till Dec 2023. I may/may not fly them once again before my expiry, but I worry I'm not match fit.

One item that wasn't touted in the announcement but was mentioned in the status support page was that the status credit rollover program has changed now. Previously, only flights ticketed on or after February 28, 2022 operated by Qantas, international JetStar Australia, JetStar Japan and JetStar Asia flights would qualify for the status rollover up to 40% of the status credits required to retain your status level.

Which Status Credits count towards the rollover?
Status Credits earned through flying or with our partners on the ground will count towards the rollover. Status Credits provided by Qantas as a bonus, support or gift will not count towards the rollover.

Unsure if this will be a boon for many but for me it makes reaching Platinum status possible next year.

I haven't got screenshots but my understanding the whole time along was that all SCs, other than gifted SCs, were eligible for rollover. I believe that's been the experience of those who have received the rollover to date as well.

Hmm. Maybe I've been misunderstanding this stuff the whole time, as I had thought that I wasn't even eligible for Status Credit Rollover, but it appears that I might be? I don't know why but I thought one has to get the Status Extension to get Rollover, but it seems like this isn't the case?

Here's my situation
  • Status year is October 31st
  • Was Bronze last status year, and until Feb this year
  • Achieved Platinum in August 2022
  • My current status lasts until October 2023
  • My status credit balance will reset on October 2022
I guess I'm getting a bit confused by the mention of "Status End Date". I thought my "Status End Date" was October 2023 as that's when my Platinum status is scheduled to end, and thus I won't be getting the rollover since it's not in the stated timeframes. However, my status credits will reset on October 2022. Does this mean I get 500SC rolled over to the Oct 2022 - Oct 2023 status year?

If so then uh, that's great. I'm not sure why I thought I wouldn't be getting it this whole time.

Yes, I believe that is what will happen for you. Like me, you are already WP until 2023. However, as you reset on October 31st, you will have a roll over of eligible status credits earned this current anniversary year.

Ah yes, that's good news. I guess the wording of "Status End Date" isn't the most clear. To me, End Date means the date on which I am no longer a WP, but that's only accurate if you didn't qualify in the last year through normal flying.

Status end date should really be called program end date since that is the date a given calendar year's accrual ends for achieving status in the following program year.

But yeah you'll have up to 500 status credits rolled over as a World Platinum provided of course you earned 500 status credits flying Qantas or some other partner airline like their luxury brand, Jétstar. Next year will be interesting for yours truly since I've got 480 status credits from my AKL trip in J in January thanks to the DSC promotion, plus 150 status credits between 2 years of green tier and loyalty bonus, plus another 30 status credits between CBR and OOL trips. So that puts me at 1,030 status credits and World Platinum is just 1,400 status to earn which I reckon will be a bit of an upgrade over the Gold I presently hold. Then again, I do have Delta Gold medallion to maintain next year so this will be quite tricky.

Nope! Definitely World Platinum! After all, there's no way you can rack up 1500 status credits strictly through domestic flying at the back of the bus!😂

My fifo ex-colleagues certainly made WP through domestic Y fares - but usually in row 4.

I thought FIFOs flew Alliance primarily? Don't know what their FFP is but I reckon those workers would have their own WP status with them!

The majors into the bigger regional airports (eg. KTA) certainly flew QF or VA, in my experience on flex Y fares delivering healthy SC returns for flyers.
Those on Cobham (etc) to smaller sites/airports never reported any status benefits, lounges or the likes to me!

I attained WP status throughout COVID flying only domestic economy flights, not a single J fare was flown. Mind you I did have some help with DSC and Jetstar Max bundles, but it can be done. 😊

QF do carry a significant amount of FIFO traffic. Alliance has about 30% of the charter market, QF has 23%, VA 22% and the remainder with others.

In AFF Parlance, WP means something else ...
  • WP: "W*nker" Platinum - A platinum member of QFs FF program (also QFWP).
  • WP1: "W*nker" Platinum - The Uber Elite platinum level of QFF member of QFs FF program (also WP1 or WPx3).

Anybody not get an email confirming your status extension and/or rollover? I feel like most people have reported getting one, which has me a bit concerned that either our interpretation of the rules is wrong, or I'm at least going to have to spend some time on the phone post my renewal date.

I have a friend who achieved Silver for the first time this membership year with a renewal date before the end of 2022 also not receive an extension/rollover email.

Maybe QF IT just forgot the (admittedly probably not very common) case of someone attaining status this year for their emails...
