Re: Qantas Everyday Rewards Qantas Credit Card 1st Birthday. Celebrations...or not...

I got knocked back for a second time today. I think it's now time to wait for 6 months (by which time I'll have a decent payrise) reduce my current credit limits by about $8000 then try again. A third knockback would defy logic I think, if I do all of the above. Any thoughts on this strategy?

What percentage of credit vs gross income do you have already...? Perhaps you are already at the maximum acceptable threshold...?

Plus I assume you are over the required $50k income p.a to qualify for this card...

Definitely over the 50k mark, that's why it surprised me. Current % is 33%, will be 14% next time. I can see why that would be an issue actually :p I went through and did 3% of my limits (plus the $8k min for this one) plus all my living expenses and still had quite a bit of room to move.

I appreciate the things that have been suggested to look at. In the meantime I might need to change my Westpac card over to Earth for a whole to build up the FF points.

I'll add my voice to the others in regards to getting the annual fee waived. Once I paid down the balance to zero and called to cancel they waived the fee. Before paying it down they offered 1000 points to keep the card, but wouldn't cancel it until fully paid off anyway. The Citibank will definitely be getting cancelled now with the points changes coming in though!

Re: Qantas Everyday Rewards Qantas Credit Card 1st Birthday. Celebrations...or not...

as mentioned in the other thread, I rang up to cancel in the effort to have the annual fee waived for the next 12 months... the fee was waived with no issue so if you are 50/50 in cancelling then give them a call to keep the card for free...

Just a follow up on your advice, shintaro10x - zeroed my balance yesterday and phoned in this morning. The first (Indian) call centre operator offered me 1000 points to stay, which I declined ($89=1000 points? No thanks!). Then I was transferred (back to AUS, I think) to another operator, who was happy to waive my fee - actually had to credit it, as it had been charged into the card overnight - and even suggested that if I was worried about the fee on my next anniversary, to make sure I call before the due date to get it waived. So I'm staying onboard for another year or two. Cheers for the heads up!

It's a 100% "No Brainer" for them... And $89 charge to retain is neither here or there to them, I can understand the fee if there is a sign on bonus, but to merely keep this card in your pocket costs them stuff all. Unlike other plat cards, this one has little going for it other than the 1:1 earn (which is very much appreciated), no additional bonuses such as travel insurance etc...

To be quite honest about it, I think Woolworths / HSBC / Qantas have struck gold with this card (Or should that be platinum...? :D). I think it works very well in partnership with their EDR program, and with the number of QFF being handed out by Woolworths, I am sure they have the best rate than anybody in regard to cost per point from Qantas who with no doubt would love the increase in volume.

Finally, as many around here have found out, if you short pay the balance on this card when it is due, even if by a small amount by accident and only for a day or two, you will be punished very hard indeed by this card. I'd like to think we are all pretty smart around here but if many of us here got stung by this, then compare this with the "average" CC user and I'm sure they made plenty out of this loop hole alone...

And yes, I will be requesting the wavier next year since they insisted this to you jukebox...! :D

Re: Qantas Everyday Rewards Qantas Credit Card 1st Birthday. Celebrations...or not...

Thanks for the reminder about the annual fee guys!

I've hardly used this card - got it for the sign on bonus and have only really used it to scan the EDR barcode...

I put 95% of my spend through Amex and use my Citi Plat for all Visa spend however am evaluating my options with their points changes... must say that makes the WOW card more attractive for everyday spend that doesn't require perks (eg travel insurance cover is not an issue if your spend is at a cafe).

The WORST thing about this card is the awful website... If they fixed that I'd be spending in no time

Can't immediately find a link for the EDR card and associated promotions.
We have registered for both of the bonus events (500 QF points depending on spend) neither have come through , is anyone having a similar issue ?

If it doesn't matter if you win or lose.......How come they keep score?

Re: Qantas Everyday Rewards Qantas Credit Card 1st Birthday. Celebrations...or not...

The nicest feature of EDR is they do keep the score of points earned. My best result was a Classic one way in F for LAX-SYD off those points so I am very happy with a personal card that did that!
