And apologies for going off topic. My QFF points balance is of greater concern to me right now as I don't want to find myself in a situation where I have to hastily use up close to 1,000,000 QFF points.

Come on QF, you're one good partnership (read: a certain struggling South East Asian carrier) away from a home run!!!

It has been, challenging to say the least, to try and get redemptions on any of QF 1/2, 5/6 and 9/10 recently, so will the ability to use points change. Stick to the oneworld RTW and you get access to all the current OW flights except QF 5 & 6. Throw in Emirates as a QFF partner, could even reduce demand on QF awards.
 
Qantas doesnt care about adelaide, the rest of australia doesnt care about adelaide, but after years of having to go through east coast ports, emirates provides daily flights to europe soon and now the chance to earn and burn. Im in manchester, it took 39 hours transit to get here with a FF seat in PE for my son and I (i paid, he is on a classic award), adl-syd-nrt-lhr-man.....back via bangkok. This deal is the best thing since sliced bread, adl-sin three days a week with no FF seats in PE or business that i could access when i wanted since 2009.......i say this deal is AWESOME!
 
With a wife and daughters, Dubai is not a place I want to be hopping off the plan on my way to and from London. I think Qantas bosses have underestimated the fact that a large number of people will just not transit via the war ravaged middle east. Have previously used SIN. Also used Tokyo in the past too but QF took away PER - NRT, ruining my annual ski plans. I need an airline that will get me to London, North America and Japan from Perth. It seems Cathay is a good bet - one stopover at HKG and one airline. Gee whiz, Qantas sure does know how to lose customers!

Give me a break! Are you mixing up Dubai with Kabul or Tehran?!

These kind of comments are ridiculous considering the stability of the UAE when compared with other regional sovereignties - and even more so when you consider that in flying to Europe via Dubai you won't even have to leave the very nice airport!

Interesting the number of people across various forums today that say they will not fly via Dubai on principle ... for a range of human rights reasons.

Yet those same people are quite happy to put UAE Fuel into their V6 car and cruise around like Australia has the best human rights record in the world...

Lots of hypocrites on this forum. :D

No it means retiming of flights and they will be stopping at SIN, and the likely move to A330 equipment as the 744 fleet retires.

On a slightly more serious note, if you don't like DXB as a transit point to Europe, there are still plenty of options, HKG, BKK, NRT, PVG and eventually, KUL. Also, don't forget RJ is also in OW, but some think the Middle East is a giant war zone... OK, you may not be flying on QF metal, but that hasn't changed due to this agreement. QF metal at LHR is already at a minimum anyway.

The key thing that hasn't been clarified is what the SC earn will be. Personally, I'm not too worried about the mileage earn. SC is where the game is, I can get my miles from Woolworths and many other options this Frequent Buyer club permits.

I'd be (pleasantly) surprised that every flight with EK code will earn SCs and even more surprised every EK flight will bear a QF code (and vice versa). This means not every destination that EK flies to will earn SC's. That means, strictly from a SC perspective, while EK brings a great network to Europe with one stop at DXB, one won't earn SC at each destination. At least with BA, AY and IB, you will earn SC at each European port BA/IB/AY fly to.

I'd also be interested to see how the respective FF programmes align. EK has a vastly different programme. From my quick browsing, it's a rolling 12-month review and it can be quite easy to earn status in Australia with the domestic network. Since EK doesn't have a domestic network, it's a lot harder to earn status. In addition to that, Skywards only have 2 'real' levels. Depending on how deep this partnership goes, the next thing to get a big overhaul can be QFF. Dare I say it, it's almost overdue to have one...

OT - Some bacon is pork, but bacon is a type of meat in terms of its handling in many countries, not its species of origin, and readily available in all countries, if not quite the same as what we are used to. If you have had it in Malaysia at Macas you know what I mean!

It will be interesting to see how this pans out, the number 1 international carrier for Australian traffic teaming up with number 4, going against number 3 (VA) and it's weaker partner who does not figure in the top 10!

Its been mentioned here a couple of times in the thread that Emirates is already looking at introducing another tier of FF.
 
I can just picture JB747 hanging out the A380 window at DXB yelling to a refeuller "fill her up mate, it's half the price here, in fact chuck us a few 44 gallon drums full for the cargo hold"

Again this nothing but win for QF, sure long term it's going to create a dependency which may ultimately be a demise trigger, but right now from a pax point of view this is great! Hurry up April.

I'm still yet to see comment from EK flyers and what they think.
 
Isn't it likely that QF will use either the A330 or the QF5 747s to service SIN - ie no F. What will QF use the refurbed F lounge for - their 3K hub?

Using that same argument you could say the first class lounges of old should have only had 30 odd seats, as the planes only had 12 or so first class seats. But of course as we all know there are plenty of emeralds that don't fly first, who will no doubt continue to fly to Singapore and expect to find a 'first class' (read emerald) lounge, so clearly not a waste.

In the case of BNE, we will once again have F available on a flight to SIN, just EK metal.
 
For BA Gold holders :)

You are assuming that BA will continue to use the Qantas lounge, afterall the lounge is part of the current JSA. So who knows post 31 March BA may find themselves in the CX or SATS lounges.
