If the whole thing turns out to be a simple codeshare agreement, then any one with QF status might need to consider just how this is going to impact them. Like, what are you going to do for a lounge in Dubai. How is seat selection going to work? How is priority check in going to work? What are redemptions going to be like?

Yes I would hope it is a few steps better than the DJ/EY tie up for a start... Hopefully!

EK have much better back of house systems to facilitate a slightly more complex arrangement so let's hope it's a good one!

Isn't the tasman legs just to save $$$ on parking fees in Syd/Mel while at the same time adding a nice freight / pax destination to the route map? Even at 40% load factor, its probably cheaper than parking all day in Sydney?

with fuel the way it is i'd say the fuel used while taxiing would cover the parking bill!

They make big $$$ on freight and frankly, I'd suggest the ability to go that little bit further on the network gives the Al-Maktoum's all the encouragement they need.

An A380 clocks up $150 an hour at SYD in a standoff bay, the parking bill is negated by startup and taxi to 16 for takeoff. It's a sad fact of life that aircraft are cheaper to park than cars at our airports when you look at the cost versus real estate used, then again they are airports!

As no doubt you are already aware, large airports look at aircraft operations as just the attraction that brings in the real business/money.

It has been very quiet hasn't it? I thought QF would send out an invitation to media for a press conference tomorrow but have seen nothing on the AusBT Twitter account to say they have this and that it's definitely 'on', and they usually tweet stuff like that. Nothing from Ben Sandilands at Plane Talking either. Maybe QF don't want to 'tip their hat' too early although that would be pretty silly when everybody knows this is happening!

Standby." but so far no official word is out at all, even to say there is a press conference, but I can't see they would not hold something if EK execs are all travelling down!

It would give Australian travellers access to 30 destinations in Europe and 18 in Africa.

Qantas would no longer fly to Frankfurt, its last port in mainland Europe.

Not happy at all if they get rid of SIN-FRA.

I prefer FRA over LHR when getting into Europe. Also this move would mean more pressure on getting ASA's into LHR!

So SYD/MEL/BNE/etc-DXB-LHR will be known as "falcon route"?! I cannot see this term being widely used.

Maybe it is just me, I prefer the "Singapore Sling Route" or "Hongkie Route" .....

The map on the AFR page also still showed flights to London through Bangkok, Singapore and KL but no mention in the article.
