Hello,

First timer, first message, forgive me if I am posting in the wrong place.

I am trying to figure out the most expedient way to travel PER/FCO/PER using points with Emirates / Qantas.
My husband is a platinum with Qantas 265,000 points and we have around 100,000 points with Emirates. My son and I
have around 40K Qantas points too we could transfer to hubby's account. So not really enough points with either carrier.

Just two people (our 8 year old son and myself) travelling around 5 - 25 April, 2014 to see grandma in Rome.

Have done the 10-00pm emirates ex Perth (3 hours layover) quite a few times and happy with that. Looking at the 3.20pm ex FCO. (10 hours layover inside airport hotel) . Then grab the 10am flight back to Perth.

Are you able to combine Emirates/Qantas points ?
Are you allowed to take kids into the Emirates Lounge in DXB ?

I would welcome any advice or suggestions if there are better connections/ flights using oneworld. I have been looking for companion fares
as well , but there doesn't seem to be any around. (some have stipulations like 2 adults travelling)

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Welcome to the forum

Qantas has one way awards. No idea if EK has one way awards
You could try PER-DXB as one ticket and DXB-FCO as another ticket (award or cash)

Look at the OneWorld route map to check who in OneWorld flys into FCO

Hi WFPerth,

Welcome to AFF ... and you've probably posted in exactly the right place.

What class are you looking to travel? - am guessing J... looking at the dates you might be struggling for availability - assuming you can find that:

If you could find an additional 11K QFF points, that would give you a total of around 316k QFF points.

2 x DXB-PER J is 144k points + $280 - balance 172k

2 x PER-DXB is 192k points + $610 - your 172K can be topped-up by a maximum of 20k points costing $557

According to the EK website, you can upgrade a FCO-DXB economy fare to business for 50k each.

Not sure of any restrictions on that purchased economy for upgrade - and the lack of outbound J for 2 (there's currently better for 1) might be an issue, good luck!

Regards,

BD
