Qantas Economy Plus Launching Feb 2026

Yesterday's QF 549 BNE to SYD had what was called a "small engineering issue" (in reality, a broken armrest).

So another passenger and I had to vacate our seats. The other passenger was moved one row forward.

I was moved to row 4, which was Economy Plus.

In other words, I got a free "upgrade" :):) !!

What's the go with this?
Supposedly complementary for Platinum. but it wants to charge me $105???

I assume that’s inside T-80 but outside T-24?

I believe that’s technically correct but we’ve had it “waved” on multiple flights. Maybe they haven’t waived it because the other Y+ seats look chockers? Keep monitoring, Row 4 might become “free” to select closer to OLCI but I’ve seen Row 4 then get blocked immediately after OLCI opens.

Sat in 37A of a 330-200… usually reserved for crew rest on international. As crew rest it was a nice a ‘new’ seat - as in ‘not well worn’ :) - and came with 34 inches of pitch.

If that’s what the new economy plus will be like… a sweet ride! Very comfortable… able to stretch out fully and a good width on the airbus (the extra inch makes a huge difference).

MrsDaver6 (SG) just checked for a PER-SYD flight. Row 5 (A321, first row of whY) was showing as open to purchase prior to check-in. Now after check-in it shows as blocked. Certainly not consistent with what QF promoted.

Given the entire row went from available to unavailable, hard to imagine it was just bad luck at the entire row being snagged up in a few seconds...

...perhaps a glitch or an algorithm-driven block to keep those seats open to others for purchase longer in a final bid to generate more revenue?

I'd not be surprised if the latter, though I would have thought this would be beyond QF's poor IT capabilities (maybe they've invested in revenue-generating functionality 😉 ). As a SG myself, I've been sceptical of this meaning much in practice, so I'll keep my expectations low. Sadly if anything I assume it just means I'll end up sitting even farther back than before.

Went from available for sale to simply blocked

Row 5 would be the last row of Business - a 6 can look like a 5 in certain fonts/minds!

You're correct. My mistake.

I had the same for 80>T>24 as WP for BNE>SYD. Row 4 was charged at $65... stayed in 5A.

The system has been doing that since the intro of Y+ (I mentioned it a few posts up).

I can only assume they block unoccupied 737 Row 4 seats for P1s/CL? But at least as WP, Row 4 usually opens up at T-80. I assume the front row of whY on the A321 does the same?

I’m not so sure.

I’m WP and so far I’m zero from six* on Row 4 being offered for free at any time, including T-80, T-24, or anytime after checkin opens.

*all flights in the triangle.

My comment was more about the front row being blocked - even to WP - from T-24.

The freebie access from T-80 for some WP and not others is obviously odd.

I can't comment on this specific flight as MrsDaver6 is only SG.

However, my experience in general has been that front row of whY on 737 and A330s doesn't just open up to me at T-24 like it once used to.

Correct. For some of us they’re opening at T-80 for free BUT, at T-24 the reverse is happening to pre Y+.Instead, they’re being blocked after OLCI opens.
