Qantas Economy Plus Launching Feb 2026

Just got an email about Qantas Economy Plus due to launch next year…

Qantas Economy Plus is a new seat type in Economy, offering extra legroom, priority boarding and priority access to overhead lockers.

Access to Economy Plus is complimentary for WP and above, and complimentary at check in for SG.
I flew the Emirates Premium Economy back from DXB to SYD late october.. it was $3k food was excellent seat was leather , back was ok but I found the seat pad a bit hard

727 was 30”

Heaven knows where they got that figure from!

AA’s and UA’s 727s post regulation had a similar number of rows and cabin mix as TAA/Australian, with economy at 34 inches. Which is about what I remember it to be!

You might have read it differently but I don’t think the comment was arguing that flying was better 50 years ago. I think it implied it was free a little more recently, which it wasn’t. Either way this is derailing the thread.

The comment was made that we are now paying for what we used to get before.

In essence, yes, going back to 34 inch pitch is what we used to have before. But also noting that airfares in real terms are much cheaper now than when we had that 34 inch pitch :)

For those of us who are tall, the decrease in seat pitch has been noticeable over the year!

It’s just not a meaningful comparison as the experience is completely different, as was the price as you point out. And if you’re measuring pitch don’t forget that includes the seat, which was a lot thicker in those days. I don’t think the legroom is much different vs 737-400 which takes us back at least 30 years.

Again, I don’t think this is helpful for the thread topic.
