Qantas Economy Plus Discussion

Mrs Pineapple provided another data point Sunday afternoon when she was downgraded on her E190 flight BNE-ROK (aircraft change). She was in 2A, and then consigned to 9A with the downgrade. Despite the email saying
What happens next?

We recognise this is a significant change to your travel experience and would like to reassure you that you'll still be able to take advantage of any increased baggage allowance, priority boarding or lounge access that was included in your original booking, if you remain in the downgraded cabin.
We hadn't even heard of economy plus on an E190, but when we checked 2A was open and free as a black Y+ seat (the whole of row 2 was, so she wasn't the only J PAX booted out of row 2). Anyway as it turns out the ROK flights were having a bad hair day and she got shifted by the lounge lady to an earlier flight. Still not 2A.

It does seem a bit ordinary consigning downgraded J PAX to steerage, presumably so they could try and resell their seats as Y+

Flow forwarded today and thought I had got one side of the aisle for the front row of economy all to myself on the XLR but a few boarded quite late

I'm yet to find rhyme or reason in the WP T-80 - T-24 window for row 4 on 737s. Data points in the last couple of months: able to snag row 4 at "100% off" on SYD-OOL-SYD and SYD-MEL-SYD. Recent flights to ADL and back were not free, so stayed in row 6 on both flights.

On a similar, related note, maybe it's just been luck of the draw lately, but I've had very few WP shadows on any flights, whether row 4 or further back. What have others noticed since the introduction of Y+?

Very few for me too, but then I do try and get front row if I can get that for free. Really enjoyed front row economy on the XLR today.

IMG_9589.jpegNot sure what to make of an upcoming 738 flight, seat map has 30 seats in Y so not economy +. Both the exit rows are showing as forward seats, and when I select an exit (14 or 15) a message says “these are not extra legroom seats. “

Thanks - that does look right, I’m assuming the exit rows do actually have extra legroom?

You’d think so. Hopefully someone else can confirm.

in a way - I just feel that these 4 aircraft are so old - should be kept out of this upgrade and we have to pay more for less... just my opinion of course
In that context, it would make little difference whether Economy Plus is added to those aircraft or not - you'd still have no wifi.

My meaning was that for these 4 aircraft should not be included in this economy plus as separate to the remaining A330

Given the cabin crew have told me those 4 are never getting wifi because they're being retired first and guesstimating by timing of required maintenance, I cant see them being reconfigured. They're probably getting retired within the next 18months.

The seat maps and regos are already listed on the QF website.

Fitting Y+ isn’t exactly an upgrade in the sense of a major refurb. They just remove some seats and adjust the pitch of the remaining ones designated Y+. They modified the applicable B737 fleet incredibly quickly as it turned out.

There is a proper refurb coming for 10 of the A332s. From memory, those aircraft are averaging 15yrs and should be quite nice.

It's not a big job to move a few seats, the 737 fleet was done very quickly. Better to have it done for commonality , lots of headaches if people buy economy plus and they then get an aircraft swap to aircraft without it.
