Qantas double status credits OR double points offer [book 23-28 March 2023]

Is this a case of you have to make a choice and live with it because there's no turning back? Or you can chop and change if you so choose?
One can chop & change because international security is not open until early AM hours - now that we know that QF check-in opens at 0330, then it is safe to assume that international security will also open around the 0400 mark (believe it or not, security doesn't have to be open because check-in has opened).

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The QANTAS DSC FAQ states the following, which implies they'll take at least 8 weeks to post:
Double Qantas Points and Status Credits will be credited to your account from eight weeks after travel.

That’s not new. In practice once they start posting they typically post within a few days or so of travel. The first batch always takes longer to post.

However, if they don’t post automatically you’ll need to wait for 8 weeks after travel before pushing for them to be posted.

Cheers! Surprising that security isn't open as it's supposed to be a 24hr airport (although I do note there's a departures gap between 12:15am and 6am).

Apparently McDonalds is located before security and operates 24hrs, so I guess there's opportunity for a pre-QP meal/drink if one so desires...

The 8 week thing is just, imo, a CYA from QF for delays in posting (in particular the initial posting which folks are eagerly waiting on now). I fully expect the usual situation to resume post the first run or two - as in the past. However the 8 weeks line in T&C/FAQ clearly covers them.

In other words - don't call them til June :D

A couple months ago it the McDonalds was definitely not 24/7!

@Durin's Bane - re: AKL - I usually do this trip each year and I always clear immigration, exit the airport and sit on one of the benches in the departures area and watch Netflix until the QF check in opens next morning.

From memory this is how it used to go - deplane, clear immigration, go thru the arrivals doorway and either - go up again the escalators, which were the international security is, take a bench hostage and settle down OR stay downstairs, walk to the end of the terminal (this is where QF check in is) and there will be some empty benches around that area and settle down for the night, wait until QF check in opens next AM. They usually open around the 0430 mark and the lounge opens around 0500 mark? Take a shower, meal and back on the next service back into AU

I won't be surprised if you find some fellow *travelers* who are also doing the status runs, scanning for empty benches :D

I found at least 2 AFF'ers who were on their Status Runs to AKL seated next to me in J in 2020, just before borders were shut
Ade, thanks for the feedback - time to make some new friends!! :D

AFF should start selling AKL status run pins. That way those in a status run can identify each other throughout the journey.
There used to be the graffiti on the QF lounge shower room door notice... :D

My next DSC flight is Wednesday 19th (ADL/BNE), so will be interesting to see whether:
1. The DSC for my first flight (CBR/BNE) posts beforehand
2. The ADL/BNE flight triggers the DSC to post from point 1 above

Then it will be interesting to see when the ADL/BNE DSC posts ...

Just got home from a couple of DSC runs. I'd said in the P1 thread I wasn't going to chase it again but I've had a change of heart, particularly after the apology extension for a year. I've just finished:
MEL-CHC-SYD-MEL
MEL-SYD-OOL-SYD-ADL-MEL-AKL-SYD-OOL-SYD-MEL

The highlights:
  • Pretty good service in J (which you'd expect at the price) - I seemed to get slightly more attention, but nothing OTT
  • MEL Flounge - nabbing a late spa treatment was an unexpected bonus, and I felt they were keeping the lounge open late just for me
  • Just getting to hurtle around the country and cross the Tasman indulging in my passion of flying
  • Always interesting who you get in the J cabin, often contrary to stereotypes. Couldn't identify other status runners though
  • Saw premium boarding ruthlessly enforced a couple of times, with an FA combing the queue (knock me over with a feather)
  • The agent bursting out laughing when she saw my itinerary on her screen
The lowlights:
  • Departing MEL at 11:30pm and arriving AKL 5am - I thought this was the best option to avoid a hotel stay or hours lying in the terminal. But the redeye is pretty brutal, at least I got a shadow one way
  • Both my first and last flights were cancelled, and although I was quickly rebooked it was a bit unnerving - one of my fears about these runs is having a major disruption which throws everything out
  • Having to eat the same J meal twice in one day because that was the only decent hot option
  • Those overhead lockers fill up quickly - even in J and travelling light I try to get on very early to get my bag in there considering I was in row 1 for a lot of these flights
  • Not able to incorporate the SYD Flounge - the timings or earn didn't work out
  • OOL is a rabble and its QP small and crowded
  • SYD int-dom transfer is still dreadful, plus Express Path either wasn't there or too hidden to be useful
  • If only I could do these runs in EK F or Qsuites
The DSCs haven't posted yet. Have another similar pattern of runs coming up to complete things. I spread out the redeye AKL run across a couple of weeks - ISTR someone booking two back to back but even I think the fun would wear thin.

That was some itinerary!

I've only ever done a status run once (to get WP for the first time) and I just went SYD-HKG return in 24 hours (back on the same A380 - Y+ on the way up, J on the way back in the F cabin sold as J) and my relatives thought that was extreme.

My first run was to TSV to get WP and it was in those awful 737s with Y-like seats in J and just some kind of weird gap. The furthest run I’ve done is DPS but I’d totally go to HKG in a widebody, that’d be more fun and interesting. With recent runs I get to know BNE, OOL and AKL pretty well.

How far through the entertainment menu did you get?
Do you mean the IFE?

EDIT: All good, I’ve been not understanding/misunderstanding even basics a lot lately as old age creeps in so wanted to check! Apart from the flight progress I actually don’t use the onboard entertainment, haven’t done so for at least 15 years. I bring stuff on my own devices and aside from that, eating, enjoying the views, answering bemused CSMs’ questions about what I’m up to and dozing off because of the redeyes, the flights go by pretty quickly :)

I'm wondering if they've forgotten to run the weekly script like they used to, in order to credit all the DSC items...hope we don't have to wait a full 8 weeks
