Re: Qantas offering Double Points

Not 100% clear both offers would be credited, guess I better book and find out
You should be fine with 50% SCs and double points on same booking.

Where you'd have an issue is if offered say 50% bonus points and then offered 100% bonus points you'll only earn on the first bonus points offer.

Re: Qantas offering Double Points

From memory the domestic sectors with minimum points guarantee of 800 QFF points post a second lot of 800 QFF bonus points with these promotions?

yes. that's how it's worked in the past in my experience.

Re: Qantas offering Double Points

Grrr...just booked 4 flights on the 17th....
Would have been REALLY $#%&^ if it was Double Status Credits.

Re: Qantas offering Double Points

I have two questions about this. Firstly, if I were to 'book' it and do a pay later would it still be valid for this promotion as the PNR would be created before the 23rd?

Secondly, If I were to change flights would I loose the bonus offer (Say book today, change on march 1st)?

Thanks in advance

Yep. If you book now and Pay Later then a PNR is generated but no ticket. The system will look at whether the booking was created within the period by checking the PNR creation date and not the ticketing date or anything else - so you'll be fine.

You can change the flights and still be eligible provided the new flights are within the promo period, as the PNR creation date will not change.

QF gift vouchers should also work in similar fashion based on PNR creation date.

Vouchers bought now can be redeemed after the promotion's booking period to score double points for a flight by 7 Jan 2018. (If redeemed after the promo booking period, only the first redemption will get double points since any residual value will result in a new voucher with a new PNR being created.)

But this also means that redeeming a QF gift voucher during the promo booking period will not get double points if that voucher was created prior to 19 Jan.

I booked a SIN-BNE/SYD-SIN flights on the 17th as sale was ending. I'd rather have $saving than the double points I struggle to use.

And a brand new Asia sale announced today... double points cost!

True but a fairly decent sale had also finished on 23Jan so it's not like they didn't have any reasonable prices going on during the promo period.

Re: Qantas offering Double Points

I guess I possibly should have done some bookings while this promo was on but if a bonus SC promo comes up I'd much rather use that. The uncertainty over what may come up does make it hard to plan and pick whether to use offers like this.

Re: Qantas offering Double Points

My personal approach is this. I do not expect ANYTHING and thus I plan my goals not assuming any bonuses will come along. So if I want to reach a goal, I plan for that "as is" - if a promotion comes along and I can take advantage, then I change my plans accordingly and am happy for that, but I do not expect it. That way I'm always going to reach my goal(s) regardless of any promotions that come along - if some do then I may reach status goals quicker/more cheaply which is a real bonus :)

Having written that here's my opinion on the chances of a double SC promo for all (for what little it's worth - which is very little!):

Last year's promo came out of the blue for everyone. I can't recall the last time there was a global SC promotion before that - maybe 2 or 3 years ago. However it also came several weeks AFTER a double points promotion at the start of April. Thinking about QF's goals in having such promotions it's clear the idea is to generate cash revenue and forward bookings (hence the short booking window and long eligibility window). We've seen reports that forward bookings have slowed somewhat as the economy contracts and fears about the economic climiate perhaps change things like business and discretionary spend on things like travel, holidays etc.

Now we've just finished a similar bonus points promotion with a fairly generous booking window of a few weeks and a long eligibility window of the 353 days (or whatever it was) - very similar to last year in April (noting December 2015 there was a triple points promo but the eligibility window was for the shorter dec/jan travel period - I guessed that one was in response to lower than expected bookings for the January period so they wanted to stimulate some last minute bookings, but I digress).

So do I htink we might see a bonus SC promo? Hard to say.. I am thinking maybe 60% chance. It all depends, I feel, on how this one was taken up. I suspect the April SC promo was a response by QF to a poorer than expected take up of the double points promo so QF changed the carrot they were offering to a chocolate to see if that would be more tempting (and to most of us, it sure was!!! :) ). There's been a precedent set from last year but it's absolutely NO guarantee. I would not be surprised to see one pop up in the next month or two, but I would be equally just as not surprised to see no global promotion but a continued increase of targeted offers (which would be perhaps smarter) since they know who jumped on board last year, and by how much, and who didn't. I'd be pretty happily surprised if one shows up though but as I wrote above I *never* expect or count on such things.. that way there's zero disappointment when it doesn't come.

bottom line waffle summed up in one word: maybe :D

May the odds be forever in your favour !

I missed out on the double points offer as a mate in the US couldn't confirm dates, and still hasn't. He wanted to price his trip from NYC to LAS before he confirmed but he earns squillions so I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm hoping he knows something (though I have no reason to suspect he might) and doesn't want to put it in writing... Or he could just be busy :)

Couldn’t agree more.

Sometimes they are and the “Gods of Flight” smile upon you.

I saw this promotion and as I had nothing to book thought oh-well maybe next time. Then I remembered I had a QF flight/EK metal in F to SIN later in the year  cancel that flight and rebook and get double points.

At this point it day just gets better.

When I checked the flight, it was now $1600 cheaper than the original booking. I can only assume that this was due to the EK Global sale. No brainer, save $1600 get double points and remain on the same flight as planned. :)

Then to top off the day got a comp upgrade for operational reasons. :D

A very rare but a good day.

But it has to be QF operated to get the extra points.
Still, a $1600 saving is not to be sniffed at.

The double points are only awarded on Qantas operated (and marketed) flights.

At least you saved $1600.

Bugger I did not read the fine print. Anyway still $1600 better off and a upgrade on the same day, "2 out of 3 aint bad", not as chuffed with myself now. :-|

I usually have a similar approach but I know Qantas is going to do something silly along the lines of double SCs or double points so I make sure I'm prepared. Luckily their promotions recently have targetted everyone not a select few and if I know a particular airfare is not going to be discounted then I wait to book during double SCs or double points.
