Qantas Business Class meals & menus

No, that's just slop - literally and figuratively. I'm going to take my own sandwiches next time, in case something like that appears before me.

When I said “good”, I meant that it tasted OK. The texture wasn’t quite as sloppy as it looked - it could be picked up with a fork - just. 😛

Was offered a choice of a quinoa salad or toasted prosciutto sandwich on QF438 from MEL to SYD on Saturday (which was operated by a 789 every Saturday).

QF MEL-SYD hot refreshment.JPG

Also was given a slice of warmed sourdough and the Lindt chocolate ball made its usual appearance.

Had a glass of the Grant Burch Shiraz and sparkling water to go with the refreshment.

Service was good from the international crew but we were not offered any PDB.

QF841 Darwin to Sydney . Braised beef, also got passionfruit shortbread and snack pack

Weds CHC -BNE early morning departure

PDB offered, water, champagne, attentive service by FA as she weaved in and out of boarding Y pax, CSM also came through and introduced herself to each J pax. Orders taken for breakfast.

Omelette with bacon and beans (no pic), looked ok.

Frittata, spinach, tomato and a chicken sausage ok, yogurt with berry sauce, danish

Frittata was a bit dry, spinach water logged, sausage meh, danish dry, did not try yogurt, luckily I ate in the lounge 😀

Unsure re ongoing service as I promptly went to sleep until landing.

BNE-MEL late morning

No PDB

Options of brown rice salad or pastie, I went the pastie, probably should have chosen rice. Was soggy and not great though I ate some

SYD-BNE, Wednesday 1st June, dinner flight on 737:

This day was a total mess at Sydney airport due to the heavy winds and only one runway (the “cross” runway going at a 90 degrees angle from the two standard runways) open. As per usual, the food in the Sydney business lounge was absolutely atrocious (especially that weird chicken dish which contained the most disgusting off cuts of chicken carcasses one can imagine) but at least the toastie machine was back to save me. Let me not even start moaning about the state of those loos in that lounge, Qantas should be seriously ashamed of it but I digress. In the end and after numerous delays, we finally got airborne about 90 late. No pre-departure drinks of course and further delays up in the air due to (relatively strong) turbulence.

We were already past Newcastle when the crew was finally allowed to start preparing the service. They kept both J class crew members up the front the entire flight and, almost surprisingly, they managed to get everyone a meal AND two wine top ups. Mind you, both ladies were very senior in every sense of the word so they knew what they’re doing. Maybe not the warmest of services but as I keep saying- if, science forbid, anything was ever to “happen” to one of the planes I’m on, I’d always prefer one of those older experienced Qantas crew to get me to safety than one of those Virgin clowns (yea, all the usual Virgin fanboys can now kick and scream at me if they like:p).

Food options were, to my and it seemed everyone else’s delight, a proper beef lasagna or the usual repetitive salad. Needless to say, as everyone else in the cabin, I selected the lasagna and had a glass of the Grant Burge Shiraz. It’s a reliable supermarket brand I’d say, nothing to write home about and certainly not endangering Qantas to run bankrupt over it but tasty enough. Exactly the same can be said about the lasagna, the three mini pebbles of “beef” won’t break the bank but it tasted good enough.

The lasagna came with beans and carrots which both are perfectly fine vegetables in my mind. Unfortunately (and strangely enough), the yummie Béchamel was loaded with steamed spinach and as we all know, spinach is simply EVIL (as are rocket and, aaargh, Kale). It looked odd and kinda killed the taste. It certainly did not help with the health factor as I had to indulge in the Lindt bar afterwards to get that spinach taste out of my mouth, something that I would usually never do as I’m not the biggest fan of chocolate generally (I know, I know! My partner is one lucky man, always getting doubles of chocolate).

All in all a fine flight, especially given the extreme wind in Sydney and resulting delays and bumpiness of this flight which is no one’s fault (or maybe it is- this is not the place for a climate change discussion, obviously). I was filled quite nicely with both wine and food and they got us there safely and very politely. I had much worse so relatively happy with this one.

QF1516 MEL-CBR (Lunchtime)
Last pax served, ran out of mains, reverted to economy option.
Interesting to note that several pax with special requests were accommodated, but not enough meals loaded for all.

Tossing up whether I should kick-up a stink or not. CSM offered a bottle of wine as compensation.JMELCBR717.jpg

Economy option? I only see your packet of pretzels and cake they presumably offered with drinks after the main meal… oh wait, that was the economy option?!…

Bottle of wine is a nice touch but seriously, I’d expect to get fed as part of the paid business product. Not loading enough meals isn’t good enough.

I’d probably complain for a longer flight but for that one, given the bottle of wine, probably not worth the effort of pursuing further.

Maybe write to VA QF and note that the CSM had to make up for VA's QF’s catering shortfall.

Edit: got my airlines mixed up. 😳

My mate flew SYD-MEL late Friday night, in 4C. Reported last row of business was being served the ‘three pies in a box’, same as they were getting.

Utterly, utterly disgraceful. And they charge a premium for this.

How can they not load enough meals? At the gate upgrades are "not assured of catering" - fair enough. Did crew make a mistake and serve those pax , I wonder?

Qantas is heading in the direction of a LCC?

Past it and zooming further backwards. Catering, bags, scheduling, call centres ....

Is it really ‘fair enough’ regarding gate upgrades? The cost of J class meals is at best a few dollars. Why not cater the cabin full? If they’re so worried about waste they could give the plats in row four the spare salad.

Yes, over a period of time, the airline would know very well what the expected J loading would be for any given flight, including at the gate upgrades (which are paid for, after all). So yes, they should cater for at least the greater of booked or average load cabin. But hey, its Qantas - they'd rather stiff a premium paying customer than shell out a few bucks to ensure everyone gets what they paid for. 🤬 Its just so pathetic.
