Hello,

How much do people value using QFF points for domestic trips? I'm heading to Singapore for the F1 GP in September, as I had KrisFlyer points to burn before expiry (not many points, but still), and due to availability, couldn't get return flight out of Adelaide for J redemption, so have booked from Perth and have booked with QFF points for J redemption leaving plenty of time in transit (for delays etc) for the ADL PER sector.

Business return ADL to PER is $2300 on my dates with economy return $510 plus CC fee's for Red e-Deal. J redemption was 72,000 points (or economy 36,000).

So my question is, for a 3 hr flight (approx each direction) do people value the J redemption or would you pay for a Y fare (I have lounge access regardless) and save the points?

(FYI, all my travel is self funded, i can't claim on tax and my employment doesnt require travel outside the state, so, I'm a not so frequent flyer compared to probably 99% on here and I would never be able to justify paying for a J fare, so for me, flying J based on redemption is a bonus/reward for putting my spend through CC earn and the occasional flights I do etc).

Thanks, and good information on this site which has been useful.

Some people do and some don't. Personally I would always be looking at J for a 3 hour flight, although others are happy in Y on that or even longer flights and save their points for longhaul redemptions. YMMV.

The third option you haven't mentioned is upgrading. $510 + 40000 points for J both ways. You even get a few points and SCs back. If there's award space on a flight then there's almost always upgrade space available too, which you can confirm as soon as your booking is ticketed.

Business award space comes out of the same fare bucket ( "U" ) as does upgrade space. So if you can book business class on points then you can also upgrade on points.

For myself, having status, I can generally get a good seat in economy so for short flights of 4 hours or les - so I'd be looking there.

As a tangent those same business class award seats can be had with American Airlines AAdvantage for 35k miles round trip.
