BNE-CTL is operated by the 200 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. I think Thangool gets the 200 as well.

I actually prefer the 300s to the Q400s. They're quieter. I've always found the Q400s noisy. I think the ATR72s are much better and I prefer flying on them.

Have to completely disagree sorry.

Q400's I find are much much quieter than bothe the 300's and the ATR72s.

The old humpback ATR72's are my least fave.

I have flown BNE-NTL on a 200 a couple of times IIRC, have a return trip next Weds scheduled as a 300.
Pretty sure the much loved and lost MEL-NTL was a 200. FA used to manage at least 3 drink re-fills on this flight.

The Q400s are a lot noiser outside having one of the biggest props on the market, inside they are the only commercial turboprop available today to make use of an active noise cancelling system, with which the average cabin noise of 77-79dBA is lower than that in an Airbus A318/319, and around 2-4dB quieter than the ATR72′s cabin. There are 40 microphones in the plane, the system measures these vibration frequencies throughout the cabin, this frequency is analyzed and an equal frequency 180 degrees out of phase is sent to Actively Tuned Vibration Absorbers (ATVAs) which are placed between the exterior and interior walls, and they push back against this vibration with the out-of-phase frequency to effectively “cancel” the vibration. Since the vibration is cancelled, noise generation is also eliminated right at the source.

Thanks Markis very interesting to hear the specifics of why the Q400 is quieter than the others...

Haven't flown a a318/9 though yet to compare... Don't think there are too many of those in Aus to try...

I flew on one last Thursday as flight QF1422 CBR - SYD. Didn't get its rego but it had a Captains Choice Tours Logo on the side (or something like that). All 36 seats were occupied on this flight.

I find that the Q400 is much quieter when sitting down the back then up front where most of us prefer (for faster exit). (Of course if you get put on the bus in Sydney then last on the bus is first off.) JV
