Qantas Delays/Cancellations

On Wednesday 30 September, QF59 (A333 VH-QPJ), the 1115 hours SYD-HND did not take off until 1433 mid afternoon. It should arrive at its Japanese gate at 2243, 153 minutes late. The scheduled 2200 hours redeye QF60 is forecast to push back at 0010 on Thursday 1 October.

Sister -QPF has today operated QF29, the 1015 hours midmorning MEL-HKG not airborne until 1244. Estimated gate arrival at 1957 will be 122 minutes late. Yesterday this flight did not arrive Hong Kong until 2029 hours.

Social media suggests not only a medical diversion to HNL but an overweight landing requiring mandatory checks causing time to run out.
Overweight landing possible as 5.5 hours fuel burn maybe 60-70 tons and difference between max takeoff and max landing around 190 tons.
Would depend on actual take off weight.....

Expect delays at MEL today due to poor weather today

QF 79 to NRT is delayed from 0935 to around 1100 departure- left gate as I wrote this at 1055 - this is due to QF30 late arrival from HKG - arriving at 0751 instead of 0720

@Melburnian1

Adding to Friday 2 October, QF35 (A332 VH-EBL, the 1205 hours lunchtime MEL-SIN) took off at 1338 so gate arrival becomes an estimated 1934 hours, 79 minutes late.

A388 VH-OQL on the 1200 'high noon' QF7 (SYD-DFW) is worse, as it wasn't airboune until 1406 hours. Gate arrival same day becomes about 1409 hours, 99 late.

A333 VH-QPB is operating the 1015 hours MEL-HKG QF29 that is another casualty of the 'poor weather' highlighted by @tomlee1986 above. It was in the sky at 1202 with arrival said to be around 1907 hours, 62 late.

A332 VH-EBK is to operate QF71 PER up to SIN that's timetabled to push back at 1215 hours, but delayed until 1500 mid afternoon. This will in turn delay QF52, the 2030 hours SIN-BNE put back to a suggested 2135 departure mid evening.

I got the flight cancelled message for my SYD flight at 11.20 last night.

I cant fault qantas within 20 minutes they had an alternative for me. I chose one slightly earlier. A bit of a win for me with an exit row and priority 2 boarding.

Domestic most stuff was delayed 2 hours. It was only until 2ish this arvo things started getting back to normal. My new flight was on time out of Melbourne.

Given the delays into Melbourne today attracted some attention, I've compiled some data to put things into perspective. In the interests of time, I've only put together domestic departures from Melbourne. Flights are counted as on-time if they departed before 15 minutes after the departure time.
