I have generally found you just turn up at the originally scheduled check-in time.

And qantas will hand you meal vouchers for this delay

B789 VH-ZNI on the Sunday 23 August SYD-PER arrived at gate at 2059 hours, 239 minutes late.

QFi managed to reduce time on the ground in Perth so the second sector was up up and away at 2251 hours against a scheduled 1935 hours pushback. Monday 24 FCO (Italy) arrival is forecast for 0843 hours, 148 minutes behind schedule. This should either eliminate or reduce the delay to returning flight QF6, the 1045 hours ex Rome.

Sister aircraft -ZNA on the Sunday AKL up to JFK QF3 arrived at 1757 hours, 97 minutes late. It turned around and took off on the 1920 hours QF4 at 2044 hours. AKL arrival on Tuesday 25 August is forecast as half an hour late at 0525 hours.

I wonder in delays like this, do you go to the airport at scheduled departure time or you can check in at 11.30pm the night before?

This may differ depending on the port you are flying out of but at SIN, I have been able to show up 2 hours before the new departure time, so when my QF84 was previously delayed to 3.30am from 10.00pm, I checked in at 1.30am.

I would wonder since there's a lounge available, how would a meal voucher make a difference to those who already have lounge access? Or would that be something else, such as Qantas Points, or Free Uber Trasnfer that would have been offered?
I heard that this is what Qantas did when there was delays like this.
I would prefer 25,000 points for delays like this than a meal voucher, which means my next Japan trip is free for the 6 hours of my struggle at the airport.

If you get a message from qantas advising of a new departure time, you can in theory head to the airport in time for the revised departure.

In some cases the delay is more fluid and they will depart as soon as they can, so getting to the airport in time for the original departure is recommended.

No point spending hours at the airport if a new departure time is confirmed and communicated.

Exactly. A 6 hour delay like this would have enabled me to go to Tuen Mun or Tung Chung and enjoy a $60 Australian Lobster + $30 Steam Fish and make myself satisfied before going to Australia.

On Monday 24 August, B789 VH-ZNI as QF5 from PER to FCO arrived at gate at 0851 hours, 156 minutes late.

QF6 (1045 hours FCO-PER) took off at 1221 after a lengthy wait for takeoff clearance as there was plenty of 'traffic' using the (broadly) east-west runway with QF6 departing to the south. PER gate arrival is estimated at about 0946 hours on Tuesday 25, 51 minutes late.
