On Monday 6 July, QF2 ex SIN (A388 VH-OQD) arrived at its SYD gate at 0606 hours, 56 minutes late.

On Monday 6 July, QF2 ex SIN (A388 VH-OQD) arrived at its SYD gate at 0606 hours, 56 minutes late.

That’s because they couldn’t land in the restricted 0500-0600 window due to strong southerly winds. If they turn up and can’t land from the south then they have to wait.

Another day, another QF HKG A333 delay on 127 from SYD- this time is QPC despite arriving early from Jakarta overnight, the morning 1010 flight to HKG is delayed to 1102 pushback - and the last 2 days, it is Gate 26, I heard it is LCC gates... I wonder does this have an impact for such delays...

Update - took off at 1126 and now ETA is 1831

And another bad news for QF HKG flights, the 29 from MEL is also severely delayed on QPH - original 1015 departure is now delayed to 1135 minimum despite arriving early from SIN overnight on QF 36

In another A330 QFi delay on Monday 6 July, A333 VH-QPL on the 1020 hours SYD-SIN QF81 was only in the early stage of taxiing in Sydney as at 1151 hours.

Sister -QPC, @tomlee1986 , should arrive HKG on QF127 (ex SYD) at about 1838 hours in the early evening, 43 minutes late as it took off at 1126.

Flagship QF1, the 1445 hours SYD-SIN-LHR is expected to depart half an hour late.

UPDATE: QF81 was airborne at 1206 hours with SIN gate arrival likely at around 1840 hours, 105 minutes behind schedule.

In another A330 QFi delay on Monday 6 July, A333 VH-QPL on the 1020 hours SYD-SIN QF81 was only in the early stage of taxiing in Sydney as at 1151 hours.

UPDATE: QF81 was airborne at 1206 hours with SIN gate arrival likely at around 1840 hours, 105 minutes behind schedule.

QF 29 on QPH took off at 1209 and ETA according to QF site - the now arrival time is 1910 instead of 1755 - this will mean BOTH return flights from HKG WILL be delayed - it is by how much

I wonder are these QF A330 delays for overworked and aging aircraft?? with 4 A333 delayed like this - I know 2 are midlife ones but QPC and QPD are over 20 years old

Continuing with Monday 6 July 2026, A388 VH-OQJ arrived in MEL (ex LAX) as QF94 at 0711 hours, 26 minutes late. It then became QF93, the scheduled 0945 hours MEL back across and up to LAX.

The latter did not take off until 1332 so gate arrival same day is forecast as 1000 hours, 175 minutes late.

QF23, the morning 0950 hours SYD-BKK took off at 1101 hours with A333 class leader VH-QPA. Gate arrival looks to be approximately 1719 hours, 39 late.

Logically, the ageing fleet cannot be helping. Alan Joyce once mentioned '30 years' as the lifespan IIRC but looking at other operators' fleets, especially in Asia, this doesn't strike me as typical: many airlines replace aircraft with new models prior to reaching the 20 year milestone.

Even one of the leased aircraft from Finnair, A333 VH-QPK, is 16.5 years old.

QFi's class leader VH-QPA is four months short of its 23rd birthday.

The QFi schedules by and large don't have much 'leeway' or 'redundancy' in them: no spares. based in SYD.

No one is suggesting QFi's aircraft are unsafe, but internal fittings in many cases have had a lot of wear'n'tear.

Perhaps some of the A330 QFi daily delays are due to waiting for connecting passengers from ports such as ADL, HBA, LST and rural NSW that have minimal or no QFi scheduled flights. However there are so many delays, some must be maintenance-related.

I won’t suggest they are unsafe but to have A333 fleet having major delays like this in multiple cities in both SYD and MEL - looks like maintenance related as well as other factors involved

In more on Monday 6 July, B789 VH-ZNE has 'farried' from SYD to MEL as QF6001, with gate arrival expected at 1922 hours. It will then form a very late QF21 from MEL to DFW, the 1335 hours that is unrealistically forecast to depart at 2020 hours.

Then heavily delayed QF21 (see above) took off from MEL bang on 2100 hours with same day DFW arrival at gate suggested as 2130 hours.

This will mean the 2020 hours 6 July QF22 from mDFW to MEL will be (at a guess) more than three hours late pushing back.

QF629 is delayed out of BNE. Due to depart at 1530 but finally left about 1730.

Another B738 must have failed as VH-VZR operated QF581 from HTI to BNE that arrived 15 minutes early at 1610 hours to form QF529, the timetabled 1530 hours flight airborne at 1743 for MEL gate arrival of 1939 hours, 99 minutes late.

It's changing daily, I assume as they shuffle things around as multiple flights are cancelled and delayed. Changed again overnight.

Morning update on HKG departure flights overnight

QF 30 to MEL on QPH had a 2 hr delay, took off at 2207 instead of 2000, but will make up a lot of time with only 76 mins late arrival at 0836 instead of 0720

QF 128 is on QPC- 75 mins late in departure with take off time at 2046 and now 35 mins late at 0720 arrival into SYD

QF44 DPS-SYD took a 4-hour delay last night, eventually departing only at 2.30am in the morning. This appears to be caused by QPI first running 2 hours late on the outbound QF43, and then the aircraft needing to return to the gate at DPS after an aborted take off.

QF44 DPS-SYD took a 4-hour delay last night, eventually departing only at 2.30am in the morning. This appears to be caused by QPI first running 2 hours late on the outbound QF43, and then the aircraft needing to return to the gate at DPS after an aborted take off.

The outbound was delayed due to the aircraft had to operate a domestic service as QF 516/527 to and from BNE due to so many A330 technical issues yesterday. The aircraft returned to SYD at 1554 as QF 527 instead of 1400, therefore impossible to operate QF 43 at 1620, and took off at 1830 as ending.
