In more on Wednesday 14 January, QF27 from SYD was eventually airborne at 1455 with same day arrival likely at gate at 1258 hours, 123 minutes late.

This could see the return QF28 (the 1315 hours) pushing back at about 1445 hours. This flight usually picks up time in the air as the schedule has padding for normal wind conditions, similar to most international medium and long distance flights. At a guess, instead of the schedule tomorrow late afternoon 1740 arrival at gate, this could be around the 1830 hours mark if all goes well.

Update on the QPF doing the 29 MEL HKG, the return of the aircraft is 128 to SYD, ETD is scheduled to be 2115 instead of 1925, but the ETA of 29 is 1946, with taxi to gate - the new departure time is optimistic…

A333 VH-QPE as QF26 from HND to SYD on 14 January was running late as noted above: it arrived tonight at 2048 hours, 118 minutes late. It is returning to Haneda (Japan) tonight as QF25, the 2125 hours optimistically displaying as a forecast pushback at 2215 hours.

Took off at 2309 - might have got pushback clearance before curfew?? And ETA is 0622 instead of 0525

Continuing with Thursday 15 January, QF19, the lunchtime 1205 hours SYD-MNL (A333 VH-QPH) took off at 1412 hours so arrival at gate should be about

-ZNF is on the 1220 hours long haul SYD to SCL (QF27) that was airborne at 1335, so arrival looks like 1141 hours same day, 46 minutes late.

A332 VH_EBR arrived in SYD today from CTS (Sapporo, Japan) and is next on QF115, the 1435 hours mid afternoon SYD-AKL altered to depart an hour late.

QF33, the Wednesday 14 January PER to CDG took off at 2036, only 16 minutes after timetabled pushback, but after looking like it might divert southwards when it was close to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, is instead about to make a fuel stop in FCO due to the sudden closure of Iranian airspace. FCO arrival is forecast for about 0716 on Thursday 15, so still more than an hour and a half away. It will then continue on to CDG (Paris). Aircraft is B789 VH-ZNE.

At lunchtime on Thursday 15 January 2026 I wondered why so many flights were delayed up to two hours in departing Sydney. This seemed sudden, and unrelated in many cases to late arrivals from elsewhere.

'AFR' has a story stating this has been due to a shortage (again) of air traffic controllers. It says these are the worst delays since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Also reported on airliners.net that it will be a splash and go at FCO then onto CDG as crew have just enough hours.

After diverting to FCO for fuel, QF33 took off from Rome at 0733 hours with CDG (Paris) arrival at gate suggested as 0911 hours, 141 minutes late. Not too bad in the circumstances.

B789 VH-ZNE is then forecast to depart CDG at 1145 hours, 85 minutes late.
