Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Regarding the other mentions of the qf63 diversion to Melbourne. Saw this which explains it.

Then there's also the OQC delay in LAX too after just returning to service.

Except the article re QF63 can’t even get the diversion airport right, despite showing a screenshot of the track… even naming the runway at SYD when it has clearly diverted to MEL

On Thursday 11 December 2025, QF12 from LAX to SYD (A388 VH-OQB) should arrive at about 0808 hours, 43 minutes late.

-OQH on QF2 from LHR to SIN arrived yesterday at 1723 hours, 17 early, but overstayed in SIN. Its scheduled 1940 hours departure became a takeoff at 2148 so on Thursday 11, SYD arrival at gate should be 103 minutes late at 0818 hours. As at 0743, it was holding above Crookwell, NSW.

In more on Thursday 11 December, QF29 (A333 VH-QPC, the 1105 hours MEL-HKG) was expected to push back at 1205 hours.

One I missed yesterday (10 December) was B738 VH-VZY on QF139, the 1855 hours evening SYD to CHC that took off at 1957 but subsequently diverted back to SYD. The flight looks to have then been delayed overnight, with replacement plane VH-VZH to operate a replacement QF139 (D?) that was nominally timetabled for an 1130 hours 11 December 2025 departure. By 1213 hours, it had yet to become airborne.

VZY was then meant to operate this morning's QF143, the 0855 hours SYD-AKL but by 1200 'high noon' it had also been given the flick. Happy TT times.

The 29 to HKG took off at 1242 - scheduled to arrive at 1842 - just over an hour late

Continuing with Thursday 11 December, QF59 (A333 VH-QPE, the 1200 'high noon' SYD up to HND) was in the sky at 1336 so arrival at a suggested 2103 will be 63 late.

On Thursday 11 December, B789 VH-ZNF on QF34, the 1020 hours midmorning CDG down to PER did not take off until 1138. Friday 12 should see it arriving at gate at about 1042 hours, 42 late.

A388 VH-OQC that needed repairs in LAX after a wing slat fell off still looks to be there. It was supposedly to depart LAX empty for SYD on Thursday. This may still occur as it's not yet 1200 'high noon' in California, USA.

In more on 11 December, QF63 (0930 hours SYD-JNB, A388 VH-OQD) is not expected to depart until 1110 hours.

A333 VH-QPA is on QF67, also an 0930 ex SYD but to BLR in India. It had not taken off by 1027 hours.

Sister plane -QPE is operating QF60 that should arrive SYD at 1041 hours, 46 late, as QF59 was yesterday delayed.

The PER-SIN A332 as QF71 (the 1030 hours) is suggested as pushing back at 1205 hours. This flight has a good punctuality record.

Tonight, QF104 from HNL down to SYD that has A333 VH-QPD should pull up at its SYD gate at about 1858 hours, 38 minutes behind schedule.

UPDATE: With the rain (and storms?) in Sydney, QF63 was in the sky at 1151 hours. Gate arrival at this early stage is forecast for 1629 hours, 89 late.

Sydney rain isn't helping timekeeping on Friday 12 December 2025.

QF435, the 1030 hours SYD down to MEL (B738 VH-VZE) was only in the early stages of taxiing by 1207 hours, when it ought already be at its Tullamarine arrival gate.

Sister aircraft VH-VXL on the 1035 hours to PER, QF645, was more badly delayed, as its 0930 hours scheduled arrival from MEL (QF418) became 1037 hours.

QF127 (1115 hours SYD-HKG, A333 VH-QPI) took off at 1301. Gate arrival becomes approximately 1944 hours, 114 minutes late.

QF59 (A333 VH-QPE, 1200 'high noon' SYD up to HND) pointed skywards at 1310 so a 2036 hours arrival (36 late) is the likely outcome.

The 1205 hours QF19 SYD-MNL (A332 VH-EBG) was in the sky at 1321 with gate arrival estimated as 45 late at 1815 hours.

A388 VH-OQH arrived SYD on Thursday 11 December's morning as QF2 from SIN and LHR.

On Friday 12, it's operating QF1, the 1555 hours SYD-SIN-LHR that is now altered to depart at 1900 hours. This will result in it also being delayed ex SIN on Saturday morning Singapore (and Australian) time.

Colleague -OQJ is on the 1745 hours SYD-LAX QF11 that should push back at 1830 early this evening.

UPDATE: QF11's expected departure has been delayed further to 1945 hours.

QF1 was airborne at 1939 hours. It should arrive SIN at 0024 hours on Saturday 13, 199 minutes behind schedule.

B789 VH-ZNF as QF34 from PER to SYD is arriving at gate at 1946 hours, 66 late.

QF652 PER-SYD on Friday afternoon (12 Dec) is now delayed until 7am tomorrow morning from a scheduled 3.20pm departure possibly because of it running up against the Sydney curfew. The A321XLR service arrived into PER at 3.10pm on the QF649 and so would have copped at least an hour's delay.

QF106 from HNL to MEL is arriving on Friday 12 December's evening at about 2106 hours, 266 minutes late with A332 VH-EBO. QF105 was about 4.5 hours late departing on Thursday 11.

VH-ZNH B789 operating the 12 December AKL-JFK leg of QF3 has declared Mayday some 5h30mins into the flight, now turned back and appearing headed to PPT, which is some 30 mins flying time.

Is squawk 7700 == Mayday? or did you hear ATC?

Hoping everyone is ok. 🤞

Squawking 7700" means an aircraft is declaring a general emergency, signaling Air Traffic Control (ATC) for immediate help due to situations like engine failure, medical issues, fire, or loss of cabin pressure, making the plane a high-priority target on radar for assistance. It's a universal code (ICAO standard) to grab ATC's attention quickly, though it doesn't always mean the plane is about to crash, just that it needs special handling, priority, and potentially emergency services on standby
