Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF2 is having a night stop in DRW

Indeed, as I suggested it might. QF2 (VH-ZND, B789) took off from LHR on Friday 18 February at 1546 so today, Saturday 19, estimated DRW arrival is 1703 hours, 318 minutes tardy.

Friday's QF10 (ZNE) was airborne at 1748 so the predicted DRW stop commences from 1913 hours (358 minutes late). Departure is expected at 2105 with Sunday 20 MEL arrival becoming an unseemly 0250 hours, 365 late.

As with QF9 that Silvia highlighted ex MEL this evening, the 1645 hours QF1 from SYD is expected to push back two hours late at 1845.

UPDATE: the delayed QF2 arrived DRW at 1655 hours.

On Sunday 20, this overnight delayed flight is predicted to depart DRW at 0900, arriving SYD at 1445 hours, 1175 minutes late.

On Saturday 19 February, QF1 took off from SYD at 1908, so suggested DRW arrival is 2133, 113 minutes late. Aircraft B89 VH-ZNJ had been on QF76 from YVR to SYD that arrived today five minutes late at 0640 hours (QF75 to YVR had arrived inn Canada 57 late at 1557 on Thursday 17),.

So not an immediate cancellation, but how long does it take for flights to move from "being zeroed out" to cancelled?

I'm booked MEL-SIN just after Easter and noticed my flight is zero in all fare classes, which could be a sign of reaching VTL quota, but as it is also zeroed out on the return flight that evening from SIN-MEL perhaps a cancellation is coming ....

B789 VH-ZNB on QF9 (1845 hours MEL - DRW) was in teh sky at 2056 on Saturday 19 February, arriving at 2320, 115 late. It then took off at 0108 on Sunday 20, so projected LHR arrival has become 0756, only 66 minutes late, so winds may be favourable.

The delayed QF1 was airborne from DRW at 2314 with Sunday LHR arrival forecast as 0635 hours, 90 minutes late.

Sunday 20 February saw QF63 (1015 hours morning SYD - JNB) take off on time at 1035 but arrival was at 1557 hours, 42 minutes tardy for B789 VH-ZNG. The return QF64 was airborne at 1845, about 70 minutes late compated to its timetabled 1715 hours pushback, so on Monday 21, SYD arrival became 1511 hours, 71 minutes behind schedule.

On Tuesday 22 February 2022,B789 VH-ZNF arrived SYD half an hour late at 0635 as QF8 from DFW.

This evening, it operated QF1 from SYD up to DRW, taking off at 1841 with suggested arrival 2119, 99 minutes behind schedule. Likely LHR arrival tomorrow will be after 0600 hours.

Not a delay itself but a FYI that it appears to be a nationwide situation where passengers are needed to be checked in manually. Allow some time if you travel this morning

On Tuesday 22 February, the delayed QF1 (refer above) took off from DRW at 2248 hours so Wednesday 23 arrival is predicted as 0552 hours, 47 minutes behind schedule.

Also on Tuesday, QF10 (VH-ZNB) arrived DRW 13 minutes behind time at 1328 hours but did not take off for MEL until 1448, arriving at 2201 hours, 96 minutes behind. It's been unusual for 'the 2' or 'the 10' to have as big a delay as this at their sole intermediate stop.

Today (23) saw the next QF10 (VH-ZNH) arrive bang on time in DRW at 1315 but it was in the air at 1538 meaning MEL arrival at 2104, 39 behind.

On 22 February, QF68 from DEL to SYD, the 1755 hours, took off 64 minutes later with 23 February arrival becoming 1243 hours, 53 minutes behind the eight ball.

Alos today (Wednesday 23) QF 69 from MEL to ADL and DEl was in the air at a very late 1130 hours (about an hour and three-quarters late) with the ADL stop from 1204 and takeoff then at 1306, meaning an expected 72 minute late arrival in DEL at 1922 hours. QF70 is timetabled to depart DEL at 1955 so at a guess this may become 2030. It's likely to be late into MEL tomorrow arvo.

On Friday 25 February, QF69 (initial leg 0925 hours MEL - ADL) took off at 1009 hours with A332 Vh-EBP. Arrival was at 1046 hours, 31 minutes late.

The second sector is better, with takeoff at 1157 and arrival in DEL suggested as right on time at 1810 hours.

On Saturday 26 February, QF67 from ADL up to DEL took off at 0941 hours with A332 VH-EBM, arriving at 1616, 36 minutes late. The return QF68 (the 1755 hours) was airborne at 1859 so on Sunday 27, not long ago it arrived at 1239 hours, 49 minutes behind the schedule.

QF9, the 1845 hours MEL - DRW - LHR on Sunday 27 February was in the sky with B789 VH-ZNH at 1930 hours, so DRW arrival should be half an hour late at 2155.

Tonight from LHR is the first time with QF2 QFi has decided to use a different route via southern Europe and the Middle East, which it says will see flying time rise by an hour. If the flight was busy (sadly not such a problem at present!), perhaps some passengers and/or freight might have to be left behind (although IIRC much more of a problem northbound).

QF10 will also be using the altered southbound route from LHR to DRW.

QF2 looks fairly busy tonight. J maybe 2 seats left, and W 6, with no doubt a few left to select their seats in Y. This is J:

That 'first' QF2 to use the 'southerly' route from LHR took off at an unusually slightly ahead of time 1005., only 15 minutes after scheduled departure that was achieved a minute early at 0949 hours. B789 VH-ZNI is the aircraft, so it'll be interesting to see how much time it loses en route, tracking over Frankfurt initially rather than the previous over Denmark and Estonia.

QF claims 1205 hours at the DRW gate tomorrow, only 20 minutes longer than the schedule, rather than the 'about an hour' it claimed the new route typically adds.

The differently routed QF2 (see above) arrived DRW at 1233, 48 minutes late on Monday 28 February 2022 so allowing for how it took off from LHR about 5-10 minutes early, the extra flight time was around 53 to 58 minutes compared with the pre-war northern 'normal' flight path.

The 1315 hours DRW - SYD continuation was airborne at 1417 this afternoon, arriving SYD at 1948, 43 minutes behind the timetable.

VH-ZND on QF2 ex DRW 27 February took off at 2223, arriving LHR on Monday 28 at 0616, 71 minutes tardy.

On Monday 28 February, QF2 took off from LHR at 1012, and with B789 VH-ZNH arrived DRW at 1229, 44 minutes late. However on the final sector, SYD arrival was 1924, just 19 late.

VH-ZND on 'the 10' (1120 hours ex LHR) was airborne at 1210, so today arrived DRW at 1427, 72 minutes behind the timetable. Taking off at 1603, MEL arrival was 2123, 58 behind.

Tuesday 1 March's QF10 (the 1120 hours) was in the sky from LHR at 1158 with VH-ZNE, arriving on Wednesday 2 in DRW at 1418, 63 minutes late. It subsequently was airborne at 1559 so should arrive at 2119, 54 minutes tardy in MEL.

'The 2' today has VH-ZNC and was in DRW from 1233 hours (48 minutes behind its timetable) to take off at 1418, with SYD arrival suggested as 1939, 34 minutes late.

Wednesday 2 March 2022 saw QF1409, the 0930 hours morning SYD to BXG divert via MEL.

Turboprop VH-TQZ took off from SYD at 1004 with the flight from MEL (different aircraft VH-SBG) becoming airborne at 1335, arriving BXG at 1404 hours, 149 minutes late.

SBG then formed QF1410, the 1200 'high noon' BXG - SYD, taking off at 1445 and arriving at 1645, 170 minutes behind the timetable.

TQZ was used a couple of hours later on Wednesday so perhaps there was nothing (or not much) mechanically wrong with it.

QF1 on 2/3/22 was half an hour late leaving the Gate - they had to coax a pigeon out of the left-hand engine. The flight landed a few minutes early at LHR on 3/2/22.

That's very good that it didn't retreat further the other way. Well done!

This appears to have been VH-ZNH that was airborne from SYD on 2 March at 1727 hours.
