Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF81 on 6 July departed SYD at 1154, 104 minutes late with arrival suggested at its SIN gate at 1810, 80 minutes behind schedule.

Later on 6 July, QF1570 from SYD to OOL has B717 VH-YQS. This scheduled 1530 hours flight took off at 1621. Arrival is expected at 1729 hours, 34 late.

Sunday 7 July 2019 sees QF2161, the 0635 hours PQQ - SYD not becoming airborne until 0910, so Q400 VH-QOV's arrival should be 1057, 197 minutes tardy as this turboprop had to hold for a while above the Barrington Tops National Park.

B738 VH-VXU on QF840 (0920 hours morning SYD - DRW) was in the sky at 1019. A 36 minute late arrival at 1406 is the suggestion.

CBR operations must have been disrupted due to fog there as QF1464, the 0715 hours to SYD took off at 0959 with another Q400, VH-LQL. Arrival looks to be after 1055 as at 1039 the plane remained holding above Wombeyan Caves, NSW. QF1466, the 0915 ex CBR airborne at 1005 hours (Q400 VH-QOA) is caught up in the same hold, so its arrival will be similar, and at least 45 minutes later than the scheduled ramp arrival of 1010.

The Sydney area has had some fog but it was not calm (wind wise) at SYD so not sure if this is why flights are delayed. Someone who is at the airport may be able to advise.

Continuing with a foggy Sunday 7 July in the Sydney area, QF23, the 0950 hours SYD - BKK is back to its old tardy self with departure at 1054, and as usual, behind competing TG476 that manages to be mostly on time.

QF23 had took off at 1112 hours. Indications are for arrival at 1725, 45 late for A333 VH-QPH.

The 0930 hours SYD - PVG, QF129, departed 57 late with arrival expected tonight at 1903, 38 minutes tardy. This will slightly delay QF130 returning overnight to SYD.

B738 VH-VXL on the 1000 hours SYD down to MEL QF423 was in the final stages of takeoff preparation as at 1112 hours, so will be at least 54 late (1229 hours) arriving at its allocated MEL gate.

QF2281, the 0855 hours MEL - LST (Q400 VH-QOC) departed 18 minutes late at 0913 but as at 1145 remained in a holding pattern, so it wil be at least 100 minutes late. JQ735 and VA1362 have also been affected, the latter similarly holding for an extremely long period.

In more on Sunday 7 July, QF19, the 1210 hours lunchtime SYD up to MNL has been delayed 185 minutes to a revised pushback of 1515 with arrival likely at 2140, 190 late. This will delay tonight's 2000 hours QF20 redeye (MNL - SYD) to off blocks at 2255 or later.

The 1235 hours SYD- SCL QF27 (B744 VH-OJU) departed at 1330 with same day arrival expected at 1330 hours, half an hour behind schedule.

The CNS down to MEL QF703 on Sunday 7 July should arrive at 1732, 32 late with A332 VH-EBL.

The B789 on QF12 on Saturday 6 pushed back in JFK at 1923, 73 late, arriving LAX at 2317, 77 minutes behind the schedule. The connecting A388 (VH-OQE) on QF122 then departed LAX at 0001 hours on Sunday 7, 91 late with Monday 8 SYD arrival expected at about 0756 hours, 86 minutes late.

B789-operated QF16 from LAX to BNE is expected to depart at 0030, 70 late on Sunday.

It departed at 1516, arrival showing as 2126 tonight, 176 late.

QF450 MEL-SYD (B738 VH-VZX) has a revised arrival at 18 50, 55 min behind.
QF448 MEL-SYD (B738 VH-VXB) also running behind, with suggested arrival at 18 55, 45 min tardy.
QF1575 OOL-SYD (B717 VH-NXI) has a tentative arrival at 18 26, 51 min late.
QFQ2230 WGA-SYD (DH8D VH-QOV) is due to arrive at 18 44, 59 min behind schedule.
QF1525 SYD-CBR is showing a tentative departure at 21 50, 170 min late.
QF635 BNE-MEL also delayed, with departure estimated at 19 15, 65 tardy.
Also, QF881 OOL-MEL (VH-VYJ) due to arrive at 18 05, 225 min behind schedule, quite late.

QF1407 SYD SYDNEY - BXG BENDIGO has been cancelled this evening for unknown reasons.

As a result tomorrow mornings' return flight QF1408 BXG - SYD has been delayed (Original dep/arr: 0740/0930, New dep/arr: 1020/1210).

A replacement flight will operate as QF1405 SYD - BXG which will then immediately turn around as QF1408. It departs SYD tomorrow morning at 0800 and arrives in BXG at 1000. Although it has a revenue flight number, it isn't showing up in the resveration systems yet so unsure if it is flying empty or not...

There were fairly heavy loads on this evening's flight and the flights tomorrow morning.

This is at least the second time this has occurred.

With fog in CBR and SYD this morning (plus maybe at some inland NSW centres that I didn't examine) and lots of delays to and from MEL for the 'mainline' aircraft, it hasn't been a punctual Sunday 7 July for the domestic airlines. Who knows, maybe an aircraft (or staff) are out of position so it was easier to cancel the late afternoon flight as late running means a late departure on Monday morning anyway due to fatigue regulations requiring IIRC a minimum 10 hours off duty.

Interesting that QF doesn't allocate an 'empty working' - 'ferry' - flight number. When this previously occurred, my memory is that passengers were conveyed on the morning departure ex Sydney.

On Monday 8 July 2019, QF130 from PVG to SYD is expected to arrive 47 minutes late at 0912. VH-QPC is the A333.

AS QF19 was delayed yesterday, QF20 on Sunday 7 did not take off from MNL until 2349 (pushback timetable says 2000 hours.) On Monday, SYD arrival should be 0928, 198 minutes late. Plane is A332 VH-EBS.

A332 VH-EBD on the PER across to SYD redeye, QF568 (the 2355 hours Sunday night) took off at 0201 so arrival is estimated as 0753 hours, 108 late. Not a good start for its Monday morning rotations. In the other direction, QF565 (

B789 VH-ZNB on QF16, the Saturday 6 late night 2320 hours LAX - BNE did not become airborne until 0129 on Sunday 7 as it was tardy in from JFK. On Monday, BNE arrival looks like 0757 hours, 112 minutes behind schedule. This still however leaves plenty of time for an on time pushback for the morning QF15 back to LAX.

Redeye QF80 from NRT down to MEL (A332 VH-EBV) should arrive an hour late at 0835.

In more on 8 July 2019, QF816, the 1045 hours mid morning MEL - CBR did not take off until 1140, so B738 VH-XZF will be at least 39 minutes late (1229 hours) into the national capital.

I suspect it was weather related. The Cloud base in Bendigo last night was more or less at tree-top level and it was raining. They sent down a (empty?) Q300 this morning and QF407 got into Sydney just after midday today.

Earlier on Monday 8 July, QF79 (0910 hours morning flight MEL - NRT) took off 106 minutes late at 1056, so expected arrival is 1955 hours this evening, 80 late. This will delay QF80 in its pushback from 2005 to a predicted 2115, 70 late. Some night, QF79 forms QF^2, the NRT - BNE redeye while the arrival ex BNE (QF61) trots off back to MEL (QF80), but there doesn't appear to be a consistent pattern.

The often punctual SYD - LAX QF11 departed 53 late at 1028 this morning, so arrival has become 0705, 45 down. This may slightly delay QF11, the 0820 hours B789 across to JFK.

Though the B789 on QF15 departed BNE bang on time at 1020 hours, LAX arrival is forecast as 34 late - 0634 hours same day.

QF81 (1010 hours SYD - SIN) was 24 late off blocks but arrival is expected as 48 minutes tardy at 1738 hours.

'The 63' from SYD to JNB - a B744 but who knows for how many more months - is often late, but today it was verging on very late with pushback at 1241 being 106 minutes tardy. Arrival should be at 1835 hours same day, 95 down. This will delay QF64 back overnight to SYD.

QF37 is usually punctual but on 8 July it was off blocks at 1710, 55 late, so SIN forecast at gate arrival has become 2314 hours, 49 late. The 2350 hours QF38 from SIN (redeye back down to MEL) will be tardy.
