Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Into the evening of 3 January, and QF1016 from HBA to MEL, the 1750 hours airborne at 1856 should arrive at 1956 hours, 51 minutes late with B738 VH-XZB.

In further on 3 January 2018, QF81 was showing earlier this morning as on time, but this 1130 hours SYD up to SIN has been delayed until 1600 this afternoon in its pushback, which will be 270 minutes late. Arrival is estimated at 2110 tonight (after midnight Oz SYD time!), 265 late. This will result in a bad delay to an Oz-bound QF flight tonight ex SIN, but the QF website has yet to update to show which one....

Oh dear.

The expected delay to QF81 today/tonight ex SYD has become departure shortly, at 2020 hours, 530 minutes late. Anticipated Lion City arrival is 0105 on Friday 4 instead of the timetabled 1645 hours this afternoon local time.

QF82, this evening's 2030 hours redeye ex SIN should push back at 0220 hours with SYD arrival on 4 January at a predicted 1330 hours, 355 minutes late.

With northbound flights to Asia on most if not all airlines full this week (as expected early in the New Year as passengers travel after Christmas), it would be difficult if QF had to cancel such a flight as spare seats could be rare, apart from the usual 'no shows.'

UPDATE: QF81 (A33 VH-QPD) departed SYD at 2040 with SIN Friday 4 arrival estimated as 0126 hours. This will push tonight's QF82 back to about 0235 - 0240 hours ex the Lion City. Yuk!

QPD had arrived in SYD this morning (3 January) at 1146 hours, 121 minutes tardy on QF130 ex PVG. QF129 northbound yesterday (SYD - PVG) arrived 15 early so a possible delay cause is repairs needed last night in Shanghai and today in Sydney.

Tomorrow, QF82 is nominally due back in SYD at 1400 and at this stage is forming QF83, the mid afternoon 1530 hours SYD - SIN. The latter is on the cards to be delayed (despite in theory a 90 minute turnaround being sufficient) but too early tonight to be definitive. Gate allocations can change, as QF has the ability to switch aircraft around.

QF49 delayed till 1340 tomorrow. The QF10 from PER to MEL was operated by a 737 and ZNH will be ferried to MEL.

I believe due to lightning strike.

Thanks milehighclub. QF49 is tonight's 2235 hours MEL to SFO.

I believe it may be B789 VH-ZNE, not ZNH, that had the lightning strike as ZNE ran the QF10 from LHR to PER that arrived on Thursday 3 January at 1222 hours, 23 minutes early. (ZNH appears to be winging its way from SFO to MEL on QF50).

Since inception of QF10 LHR - PER - MEL, it has been very rare for it to be cancelled, and rare for a substitute aircraft to operate it. However I have failed to monitor it every day, and not gone back through the daily records, so will have missed some.

B738 VH-XZH is the substitute aircraft on QF10, having taken off from PER at 1918 hours. MEL arrval on Friday 4 is a predicted 0124 hours, 274 minutes late compared to the usual 2050 hours arrival during daylight saving.

This B738 also operated the domestic sector of QF9 this afternoon, taking off from MEL at 1730 and arriving in PER at 1818, only eight minutes late, so QF must have had some time up its sleeve to organise the switch.

QF10 goes from 42J/28W/166Y to 12J/162Y

Prehaps the loadings on the PER-MEL sector are low. At least the Y passengers would be accommodated. Other premium passengers and maybe some Y would have been sent on QF776 an A330-200 which departed at 1705hrs (Which may have 28J). Hopefully the W passengers may have been upgraded

Quick, when I looked at BITRE figures a week or 10 days ago, it was apparent that only about a quarter to a third of QF9/QF10 international passengers are travelling from or to MEL. But yes, given that flight ought be full during school holidays, pushing some onto a domestic flight would have been required one would think.

Thursday 3 January's delayed QF81 arrived SIN at 0124 on Friday 4 January. VH-QPD then was airborne on the delayed QF82 at 0303 with SYD arrival estimated as 1346 hours, 196 minutes behind schedule.

Thursday's QF24 departed BKK only 222 minutes behind schedule at 1822 hours but on Friday arrived SYD 62 late at 0832. A333 VH-QPA had not taken off until 1904.

QF419, the 0900 hours Friday 4 SYD down to MEL should arrive at 1108, 33 late as it did not depart until 0932.

Adding to Friday 4 January 2019, QF11, the 1110 hours SYD - LAX departed 45 later with same day arrival estimated at 0706, 66 late.

QF614 (B738 VH-VXM) is the 1110 hours late morning MEL - BNE, airborne at 1213. Expected arrival is 1301 hours, 41 minutes tardy.

Southbound QF881 (1140 hours OOL - MEL in the sky at 1229 hours) has VH-VXG and should arrive mid afternoon at 1535, 40 late.

Thanks milehighclub. QF49 is tonight's 2235 hours MEL to SFO....

The overnight delayed QF49 from MEL to SFO took off at 1354 on Friday 4 January 2018 with B359 VH-ZNG. The aircraft had sat in MEL overnight after arriving on 3 January on QF617 at 1430 hours, ex BNE. It should arrive in SFO at 0815 on 4 January instead of 1755 on 3 January, so 740 minutes late.

Due to the delay to QF49 on 3 January that only departed this afternoon (4 January) from MEL to SFO as noted above, QF50, the scheduled Thursday 3 January 2010 hours SFO to MEL has been delayed in its pushback to 1100 on 4 January local time. QF50 should arrive in MEL on Saturday 5 at 2140 instead of 0635, or 905 minutes late.

QF608, Saturday 5 January 2019's scheduled 0810 hours MEL up to BNE (B738 VH-VYB) was in the sky at 0849. Expected arrival is 0953 hours, 33 late.

On Friday 4, QF20 departed MNL bang on time at 1900 hours but on Saturday arrived SYD at 0739 hours, 79 minutes late as it did not take off until 2101 hours.

121 minutes from pushback to takeoff would not be a record - snowstorms and other adverse weather in Europe, the USA or other parts of Asia might see to that, or even major airports like DXB having a runway closed for rebuilding or maintenance - but it is a very long time to have the plane using (if I recall) about 70 kilograms of fuel a minute.

QF27 and QF107 both delayed. Apparently congestion is delaying bringing planes to the bays. QF27 is delayed a bit over an hour. Delay unknown for 107.

On Saturday 5 January 2019, QF1580 (B717 VH-YQY, the 0955 hours SYD - MCY) was airborne at 1056.
QF27 and QF107 both delayed. Apparently congestion is delaying bringing planes to the bays. QF27 is delayed a bit over an hour. Delay unknown for 107.

With QF11, the 1110 SYD - LAX (A388 VH-OQD) possibly a contributor as it did not push back until 1221 hours or become airborne until 1257.

A333 VH-QPD on QF81, the 1130 hours late morning SYD - SIN did not point skywards until 1309 despite pushing back at 1143. A most unusual long period between the two. Arrival should be 1755, 70 late.

As Flying mermaid approximates, the SYD to SCL QF27 is expected to depart 70 late at 1400 while the delay to QF107 (SYD - PEK) should be an hour in pushing back at an estimated 1435 hours.

The expected delay to Saturday 5 January's QF107 in departing SYD has further blown out to 95 minutes: departure at 1510 hours. This means a longer wait for QF108 passengers in PEK tonight for the redeye back to SYD.

The SYD - SCL QF27 (1250 hours) has also been further altered to a suggested 1420 hours departure.

UPDATE: Estimated departure for QF27 has become 1440 hours, almost two hours late.

Talking of '1440', QF7 from SYD to DFW is predicted to push back at 1545, 65 late.

Earlier today, although QF79 was expected to depart MEL on time, it did so at 1023, 63 late with arrival in NRT at 1820, 50 late. The aircraft, A333 VH-QPI had arrived in MEL 44 minutes early on QF80 at 0716.

QF73, the 1755 hours B744 from SYD to SFO has been retimed to depart 105 late at 1940 tonight.

they said the runways were congested which was causing problems bring planes across. The flight to Dallas is delayed now.

Also on Saturday 5 January 2019, the 2135 hours SYD to HND B744 has been delayed overnight to 1445 on Sunday 6 ex SYD for arrival at 2215 instead of 0500 hours.

Last night's (4 January) SYD - HND was also delayed by about 17.5 hours, departing just now (Saturday 5) at 1503 hours with B744 VH-OEJ that was airborne at 1515. HND arrival is estimated at 2226 hours tonight instead of 0500, 1046 minutes late.

So at both ends of the SYD - HND prime route, QF passengers suffer, although southbound the delays are usually much less due to the all day stabling of the B744 at HND under normal operations.

More delays to Qf27 while they tried (and failed) to fix the entertainment system, so no movies on demand. Not a happy camper at the moment, as I booked 4 j fares a year ago. We had the 4 exit rows upstairs. They did a late sub of the coughpy 747 with the Mk1 seats and they split our booking so 2 have the exit rows and other randoms now have the other 2. My fault for booking a LCC but it seemed the easiest way to get to Santiago :) :).

Should be taking off soon now they have given up on the entertainment system.

Ok - now they have a problem with one of their galleys :) :). No idea when we will take off :) :)

The 5 January QF27 took off from SYD at 1602 hours after pushback at 1552, 182 late with B744 VH-OEB. It is expected to make up a lot of time enroute, with SCL arrival showing as 1313, 123 minutes behind schedule.

Consequently, QF28, the timetabled 1335 hours 5 January SCL back to SYD will be unable to depart prior to 1500 hours. It will be late into SYD tomorrow (Sunday 6) but too early to know by how much.

'The 107' pushed back in SYD at 1514 hours, 99 late with PEK arrival suggested as 2329 very late tonight local time, 74 minutes behind the timetable.

Todays qf28 is currently sitting in Brisbane waiting out the Sydney storms. Current plan is to refuel and head back down.
