Also on Sunday 3 July, B789 VH-ZNF on QF11 (1015 hours midmorning SYD - LAX) took off at 1131 hours so expected same day arrival is 0746, 46 late.

Spoke to soon, even though QF2 from
LHR is due into SIN at 18:12 tonight, the onward journey to SYD is delayed until 3am.

What a shocking time to depart from SIN, especially if it's 'further delayed' from 0300 hours.

At a guess, flight crew mandated rest insufficient unless the aircraft is held till 0300?

Just what QF1 passengers waiting in SYD don't need.

With the (heavy?) rain continuing, there's a queue of aircraft holding as they wait to approach SYD from two directions. QF2 has joined that from the south.

UPDATE: By 1942, QF2 looked to have emerged from its initial 'racecourse circuit' and was near Moss Vale. FR24 claims it will land at 2009 so that's a gate time of about 2014 hours.

FR24 has put the expected landing time of QF2 (VH_OQK) further back (i.e. a greater anticipated delay) to 2020, sop this means gate arrival of about 2025 hours.

QF's flight status page maintains 'the 1' (the 1555 hours SYD - SIN - LHR) will depart at 2200 using this aircraft. Mythological territory, though not impossible that it could get out tonight, especially if the anonymous Federal Department of Transport 'delegate' says 'yea'.

If I was a passenger, I'd prepare mentally for a taxi voucher home if residing in SYD (or an hotel if not, preumably provided by QFi) and a requirement to be back at SYD at some unfathomable hour tomorrow morning. The upside is I can be wrong...

QF102 (B738 VH-VZU, 1535 hours mid afternoon NAN - SYD) took off on 3 July 2022 at 1748 so is arriving at 2020, two hours late, as there appear to be further tarmac delays obtaining access to an arrival gate.

I'm due to fly out on qf1 on Saturday with my family which includes.three children, one 5month old, a two year old and a 8 yo, so I've been watching the comings and goings of qf1 and 2 with anxiety. Honestly can't think of much worse in terms of travel than waiting at the airport with young kids until 9pm and then having to somehow go back home, with all our luggage, sleep for 6ish hours and then go back to the airport again. Pure misery!

It's not guaranteed to occur: you may have the joy (for children plus you) of a close to on-time departure. We can't predict this far out.

The only relevant comment is that "if" this QF1 fails to depart tonight, that won't be helpful to your chances of nirvana.

A relative once said to me 'worry about the things you can control, not those you can't'. Sagacious, but not always followed.

Ahh yes but I can mentally prepare for everything to not go to plan, then hopefully be surprised when it does 🤪. Praying for that travel nirvana 🙏.

Had you contacted me earlier I could have said a prayer for you at Mass this morning.

I have never had to do it but psychologically, us having 'left home' but having to 'return' must be difficult and feel surreal.

Hello !
I have been looking at recent performance of QF408 because I will travel with it later next month.
I noticed that is mostly always cancelled! Have anyone here been affected by it? what would usually happen with that? I have no idea why would it be cancelled or what to expect given that there is even a connection to international terminal to continue the travel to US :( ...
Thank you, hope you have a good day.

Sounds irrational, but it's been suggested on a #1 domestic route such as Melbourne to Sydney and back, if an airline such as QFd offers three or four departures an hour at peak times, the '00 and 30 minutes past the hour flights book quicker than those at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour'.

If it isn't operating, the likelihood is you'll be shunted onto the 0630 or 0700 hours ex MEL.

There are constant media reports of staff shortages, allegedly partly because many who were sacked by QF or other airlines found jobs in other sectors, or retired early. Influenza and COVID-19 are resulting in higher than usual staff absences, so QF may have decided to operate the '00' and '30' departures but not the (06)45 hours.

LHR is due into SIN at 18:12 tonight, the onward journey to SYD is delayed until 3am.

That delayed QF2 is estimated to arrive in SYD at 1240 hours tomorrow afternoon.

QF is stating that the Monday 4 July 2022 QF1 (1555 hours SYD - SIN/LHR) will depart at 1955, with estimated Tuesday 5 LHR arrival also four hours late at 1035 local time.

QF103 (1925 hours early evening SYD - HNL, A333 VH-QPE) was airborne at 2142 so same day's arrival should be at 1059 hours, 109 minutes late.

As at 2239 AEST on Sunday 3 July, the delayed QF1 (A388 VH-OQK) was still not visible in FR24, rarely a good sign. That site plus SYD (Airport's) as well as QF's flight status were all maintaining it would depart at '2200 hours' tonight.

Sometimes QF doesn't alter the publicly displaying flight status for a while.

QF1 pushed back at 22:59. Seems they have been given a dispensation to take off after 23:00. Looks like a couple of other flights may take off after curfew too, so dispensation probably granted due to weather and significant hold times.

Yes, it took off at 2311, arriving SIN at 0430 hours, 375 minutes late. QFi suggests it will depart at 0615 with LHR arrival becoming 1250 hours, also 375 late on Monday 4 July 2022.

The Saturday 2 QF2 that spent a lot of time in SIN departed at 0303 hours local time on Monday 4, so SYD arrival should be 1246 hours, 456 minutes late.

The 2105 hours ex LHR Sunday 3 QF2 is estimated to depart at 2300 hours, in about half an hour from now with estimated Sydney Tuesday 5 July arrival becoming 0645, 95 minutes tardy.

While the worst may be over for the minute, QFi's lack of a spare aircraft for these A388 rosters means the performance may continue to be sketchy.

UPDATE: On Monday 4, QF1 departed SIN at 0621 hours, 396 minutes behind schedule.

Continuing with Monday 4 July, QF19, the lunchtime 1230 hours SYD - MNL A333 is delayed to an expected 1345 in pushback.

NZ and QF incur many TransTasman delays. QF151 (early morning 0710 hours MEL - AKL) was airborne at 0833 hours, so estimated arrival for A332 VH-EBS becomes 1345 hours, an hour tardy.

QF119 (0915 hours BNE - AKL) should depart at 1000 hours.

With less than ideal weather continuing in Sydney, there's quite an amount of holding occurring, delaying flights.

ATC may also be giving flight crew permitted departure times that are themselves a delay.

On Monday 4 July, QF410, the peak period 0700 hours MEL - SYD took off at 0729 with A332 VH-EBF, arriving at an estimated 0911 hours, 46 minutes late.

QF412 (0715 hours, same route and direction, B738 VH-VZG) was airborne at 0733 with arrival at gate likely at about 0914 hours, 34 late.

QF732 (0635 hours ADL across to SYD, VH-VXG) took off on time at 0650 hours but arrival at gate is suggested as 0929 hours, 34 minutes behind.

On Sunday 3 July, A388 VH-OQD arrived at its LHR gate as QF7001 (i.e. a delayed 'QF1') at 2149 hours, 914 minutes late.

It quickly turned around and formed QF2, the 2105 hours ex LHR that departed at 0009 hours on Monday 4 (184 minutes late), but did not take off until 0043. Heathrow has only a limited number of takeoffs and landings in the 'small hours' so this move probably required permission. SIN arrival today is estimated as 2031 hours, 186 minutes behind the timetable, so SYD arrival on Tuesday 5 is likely to be after 0800 hours.
