Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Sunday QF8 is delayed a further day so is now due in Thursday morning (rather than original Tuesday morning arrival).

Flyerqf, thanks. As noted above Tuesday 17 July's 1555 hours SYD - SIN - LHR is delayed overnight in its departure until 1200 'high noon' on Wednesday 18 but won't this further unexpected QF8 delay mean that of the Wednesday A388 flights out of SYD such as QF11, QF127, QF7 and QF1, one will have to be delayed until Thursday morning, 19 July?

None of these four scheduled departures tomorrow are showing as delayed.

It depends on the maintenance requirements. 1 x 388 was out today but may not be tomorrow?

The Monday 16 July 2150 hours DFW to SYD, QF7, departed at 0006 hours on Tuesday 17. SYD arrival on Wednesday 18 should be at 0755, 110 minutes tardy. By itself this is unlikely to delay any A388 flights.

On Tuesday 17, QF1553, the evening 1930 hours BNE down to CBR with B717 VH-NXJ did not become airborne until 2035. Arrival should be at around the 2211 hours mark, 51 late.

Monday QF108 is showing an ETA of 2340 - not sure that this flight would warrant an exemption to the curfew given it was engineering and crewing related delays.
We have our answer. The “one-o-late” (108) is off to Melbourne.

And not arriving until 0038 on Wednesday 18 July, more than three hours from now.

Let's hope QF rustles up 100 - 150 hotel rooms (allowing for couples and families). I'm guessing that no one would be in an hotel much before 0300, and some might even have to be taken by bus to CBD or inner city Melbourne hotels. It'd be horrible to be then rebooked on an 0600 or 0700 hours MEL - SYD although some with urgent need to get to their destination may want this.

On a flight like this, there would have to be some travellers whose destination was MEL.

Because QF29 was late, QF30 tonight ex HKG is also delayed with departure suggested at 2150 hours. MEL Wednesday arrival should be at 0855, 80 late.

Interestingly the taxi time at PEK was 1 hr 20 mins so if the taxi had been shorter they could have gone to SYD. By the time they would have realized they’d miss curfew they’d already have been in the line up for take off.

Feel for the passengers. 12 hours late and in MEL rather than SYD.

The MEL - HKG QF29 is suffering from repeated delays, usually because QF30 is late. QF29 on Wednesday 18 July is expected to depart at 1210 hours, 155 late. Arrival at 1945 will be 145 late.

Tuesday 17 July's QF108, the late night 2345 hours, depart this morning from PEK at 0058 so predicted SYD arrival is 1432, 72 late. This is the next day's flight as opposed to the one via MEL that Flyerqf and I discuss above.

QF23 (0950 hours SYD - BKK) has become notorious for delays with 18 July no exception: departure is showing as 1055, 65 late, but it is later than this.

The overnight delayed QF1 has been further hit with departure from SYD now expected at 1300 hours (not 1200 noon) on Wednesday 18, but LHR projected arrival remains at 0435 hours on Thursday 19, just under 22 hours late.

'The 11' from SYD to LAX is generally good in its timekeeping but today unusually departed 55 late at 1030 with arrival suggested, same day, as 0700 hours, 40 minutes tardy.

Colleague QF15, the 1010 hours BNE - LAX departed 56 minutes late so arrival has become an estimated 0642, 42 late. This will slightly delay the transcontinental leg across to JFK.

The morning 1015 hours SYD - SIN, QF81 is expected to commence pushing back at 1450 this afternoon so arrival is delayed until 2115 hours, 265 late. My first thought was that it would be formed by the delayed arriving QF108 but the gate numbers differ so that's wrong.

Hopefully the Sunday delayed QF8 A388 should be on its way in about 90 minutes to SYD from DFW. Not before time!

A332 VH-EBL that arrived in MEL on the diverted, very late QF108 (normally PEK - SYD) at about 0038 hours (Wednesday 18 July) does not seem to have yet undertaken another flight.

The Wednesday QF107, the 1210 hours SYD - PEK is expected to depart at 1645 this afternoon, so it's in a similar situation to QF81, awaiting an 'operating aircraft' to use that infamous term. This will mean PEK arrival is at 0245 hours on Thursday 19 July, a shocking time.

The QF computer has not updated it but A333 VH-QPE on QF33, the 1015 hours SYD up to KIX took off at 1056 with likely arrival tonight at 1944, 34 minutes behind the schedule.

QF108 tonight, the 2345 hours ex PEK looks to be unable to depart until about 0400 or later on Thursday morning. Again, not a preferred time of departure for many passengers, or apparently for crew.

Tonight's 2115 hours QF2 from LHR to SIN and SYD is expected to depart at 0800 hours on Thursday 19 July with the SIN intermediate stop to become 0350 to 0520 on Friday 20 (ugh!) and SYD arrival at 1505 rather than the scheduled 0510 hours, so 595 minutes late.

The overnight delayed QF1 departed from SYD at 1301, much as the twice revised QF forecast has indicated. The SIN stop is estimated as 1923 to 2118, and LHR arrival on Thursday 19 still at 0435 hours.

The flight would probably be able to arrive in LHR a little earlier, but given that LHR allows just a few thousand (in total) arrivals and departures in the 'small hours' per annum, 0430 onwards may have been the earliest QF could obtain agreement from LHR management for.

QF23 departed SYD on 18 July at 1122, 92 late with forecast BKK arrival at 1810 hours, 90 minutes tardy. QF24 will be delayed: QF claims it will commence pushback at 1925 with Thursday SYD arrival likely at 0735, 70 late.

'The 29' was worse than expected, departing MEL at 1212 hours, 157 minutes behind the schedule. With HKG arrival suggested as 1928, 128 late, one of the evening departures will be at least slightly delayed tonight.

Tuesday 17 July's QF10 was just 11 minutes late out of LHR last night, but the deficit has risen to an estimated 58 minutes with the PER arrival time 1358. In turn this will delay the onward domestic leg with its mix of passengers from 1430 to an expected 1500 this afternoon, though a 62 minute stay on the ground is faster than what has been observed since this flight commenced. MEL arrival is estimated at 2015, which may also be a tad optimistic. QF95, the 2140 hours MEL - LAX is likely to depart late assuming the same aircraft operates it as QF10.

Although not indicated as a likely delay, Wednesday 18 July's QF73 from SYD to SFO, the 1245 hours B744, did not push back until 1411. Suggested arrival is 1016, 71 minutes behind the timetable.

The delayed 1430 hours Wednesday 18 July QF10 from PER departed 45 late with MEL arrival suggested as 2026 hours, 31 minutes tardy. This will at least slightly delay the 2140 hoyrs QF95 to LAX. Aircraft is B789 VH-ZNA.

Thursday 19 July 2018 finds the 0840 hours morning BVNE up to DRW, QF824 (B7348 VH-VXH) having taken off at 0920 hours, so arrival is forecast for 1305 hours, 35 minutes behind schedule.

VH-VXU on QF413, the 0745 hours SYD down to MEL that was airborne at 0817 is arriving at 0953 hours, 33 late.

Tuesday 17 July's overnight delayed QF1 (that left SYD at 1301 on Wednesday 18) was in SIN from 1907 to 2242, losing time in the process, so projected LHR arrival on Thursday 19 has become 0501 hours, 1326 minutes behind schedule.

The Wednesday 18 QF2 (2115 hours ex LHR) remains as a suggested 0800 hours alteration.

QF108 departed PEK on Thursday at 0506 hours, 321 minutes late so SYD arrival this evening has become 1935 hours, 365 late. The extra delay is because A332 VH-EBS did not become airborne in Beijing until 0606 hours. EBS is an unusual visitor to PEK as it is not one of the two QF A332 with the larger galley and crew rest facilities.

It's yet another day of delay for QF29, the 0935 hours MEL - HKG with pushback likely at 1100 for arrival at about 1850 tonight, also 90 late. This may mean only a minimal delay for one of tonight's southbounds if it is able to depart as suggested from MEL, unlike yesterday when the delay blew out.

The 0950 hours SYD to BKK, QF23 on Thursday is predicted to depart half an hour late.

QF81, 1015 hours SYD - SIN should depart at 1050.

Later on 19 July 2018, QF2131 (the 1030 hours CBR down to MEL, Q400 VH-LQJ, that took off at 1248 hours) should arrive at 1355, 130 late.

As QF81 did not push back in SYD until 1058, its revised SIN arrival has become 1745, 55 down. Due to the generous turnaround times this should not mean any delay to a flight back down to Oz tonight.

The BNE to HKG QF97 is usually punctual but on Thursday it pushed back 74 late at 1159 hours. Arrival is forecast for 1842, 42 late.

EBS is the first 332 to be reconfigured into the new international config. EBO is currently in being reconfig

The almost 22 hours QF1D with A388 VH-OQF arrived LHR at 0446 hours on Thursday 19 July 2018.

QF2 has just departed LHR at 0857 (1757 AEST), 57 minutes later than expected and not far short of 12 hours late given its usual 2115 hours Wednesday night departure.

The 2355 hours Wednesday LAX - MEL B789 VH-ZNA is delayed to depart on Thursday at 0145 for a suggested 0955 hours Friday 20 arrival, 90 late.

UPDATE: QF2 was airborne at 0921 hours. QF has yet to update the previous estimate of 0355 hours as SIN arrival but going on recent flight times it will be at around 0500, meaning likely SYD arrival tomorrow afternoon at post-1600 hours.

With A388 in DXB for maintenance, it appears QF is one short for timely four A388 departures tomorrow (Friday 20 July) but QF127 may be reduced to a B744 (if available) or A333/332. milehighclub may be kind enough to advise.

QF632 (Thursday 19 July 1810 hours MEL up to BNE that was airborne at 1905 with B738 VH-VYB) should arrive at 2108, 48 late.

Mid evening on what has at times been a stormy MEL evening thus far, QF635 (1800 hours BNE down to MEL that took off at 1828, about 10 - 15 late) has B738 VH-VZX and should be at its destination at 2057, 32 late.

VH-XZJ on the 1845 hours SYD - MEL that was airborne at 2007 as QF479 should arrive at 2120, an hour late.

Yesterday afternoon/evening LHR had a fire alarm in the ATC tower and BA had an IT failure, causing big problems at the airport. Could that have had some impact to QF2?

Himeno, the Wednesday evening 2115 hours QF2 had no aircraft in LHR yesterday because QF1 had been delayed overnight departing Australia at 1301, more than 21 hours late. So A388 VH-OQF did not arrive until Thursday 19 at 0451 hours and then departed at 0857 (3.5 hours ago).
