In further on 1 July 2018, QF3, the 1915 hours SYD - HNL is delayed until 2200. Arrival (same day) should be at 1150, 170 late.

A332 VH-EBL had no sooner arrived 28 minutes late on Sunday 1 July at 1348 from PEK on QF108 than it turned around and operated QF117 from SYD to HKG, the delayed 1420 hours that managed to be off blocks at 1523, taking off at 1541. HKG arrival is estimated at 2259 hours, 59 late.

While 95 minutes to turn around an A333 is not the best observed, it's still creditable on a busy Sunday with school holidays in Vic and Qld among other states probably increasing the number of connecting passengers.

Continuing with Sunday 1 July 2018, QF623, the 1400 hours BNE - MEL that was airborne at 1452 (B738 VH-VZB) is likely to arrive at 1657 this afternoon, 32 minutes late.

On Sunday 1 July 2018, A333 VH-QPD departed SYD nine late on QF19 but arrival is suggested as 1920, 50 late in MNL as at 1852 local time, the flight remained in a holding pattern.

This will delay QF20, the redeye back down to SYD.

As noted above, on 1 July QF3 (1915 hours SYD - HNL) was delayed until 2200 in its departure but this has extended to 2220.

Rarely a good sign when one is so close to breaching 2300 curfew, which effectively means pushing back by 2245 unless the mysterious delegate - I'd love to meet him or her - grants an exemption.

QF96 ex LAX should arrive in MEL on Monday 2 July 2018 at 0912 hours, 47 late with B789 VH-ZNC.

QF412, the 0730 hours MEL - SYD was cancelled.

B744 VH-OEJ on QF26, the redeye from HND down to SYD looks to be arriving on 2 July at 0942, 72 minute slate. Southbound Japan - SYD flights are not often late. QF26's aircraft is next rostered on QF63, the 1055 hours SYD across to JNB that should depart at 1130 this morning.

Pressure on gates in SYD is shown by how this morning, gate 33 is being used by QF129, the scheduled 0930 hours SYD - PVG A333 and then a few minutes later by the delayed arriving QF26 that forms in turn a late QF63.

Gates can change at short notice but at 0930 hours SYD is often at full utilisation, compounded by late running that can see at least occasional use of buses, although from observation it is often the 'second tier' international airlines whose passengers experience this.

The PVG - SYD redeye QF130 is arriving on 2 July at an estimated 0909 hours, 44 minutes tardy.

In further on Monday 2 July, because QF107 was late, QF108, the overnight PEK down to SYD should arrive at 1359, 39 minutes tardy.

Oh dear. The Monday 2 July QF1, normally ex SYD at this time of year at 1555 has been delayed until 2145 tonight, meaning a SIN stop from an estimated 0410 to 0600 hours on Tuesday 3 with LHR arrival at 1305 hours, 365 late. However in practice this flight tends to pick up time on a gate-to-gate basis between SIN and LHR.

Hmmm, a bit OT but in Japan they cancel any services that may run late due to bad weather. Hardly reliable even if the services that run are punctual.

Apologies for briefly going OT but having spoken to someone involved with their operations, high speed trains in Japan are generally only cancelled when there are very high winds. Other climatic challenges typically see them operating as scheduled, not something one can say for airlines.

The delayed QF1 that was to depart at 2145 tonight from SYD (Monday 2 July) has morphed into an 0800 on Tuesday 2 with the expected SIN stop 1405 to 1530 for an arrival in LHR at 2145 hours.

Advice from anyone as to hotels provided, what time pickup is in the morning (0500?), meals and so on welcome.

Tuesday 3 July's QF2 ex LHR will obviously be delayed until at least 2330 instead of its normal 2115, but too early yet to predict the exact time.

As it did recently, will QF simply cancel the Tuesday night QF2?

Also on Monday 2 July, QF64 is predicted to depart JNB 40 late at 1950 with Tuesday 3 SYD arrival at 1540, 45 late. On Monday, this flight arrived 61 late at 1556.

Sunday 1's overnight delayed QF25 departed SYD at 1404 on Monday 2 July with HND arrival at an estimated 2224 hours. QF26 is suggested as departing at 2355 hours - a bit optimistic - with Tuesday 3 SYD arrival to become 1020 rather than 0830 hours.

QF24 today departed BKK 26 minutes tardy at 1836; Tuesday 3 July SYD arrival is anticipated at 0708 hours, 43 minutes behind the timetable.

Sunday 1 July's QF16 departed LAX 92 minutes late at 0052 today, so Tuesday at gate time in BNE should be 0651, 46 late. This is plenty of time (in theory) to form the 1010 hours back to LAX, QF15.

The B789 on QF96 pushed back in LAX at 0120 hours today, 85 late. Arrival on Tuesday 3 ought be at 0945 hours, 80 minutes tardy.

Tuesday 3 July 2018 has seen the overnight delayed QF1 from SYD to SIN and LHR depart at 0815 hours (980 minutes late), taking off at 0836 as QF1D. A388 Vh-OQF should arrive the Lion City at 1354 hours. Departure is displaying as 1520 which is not impossible, but somewhat optimistic. LHR arrival is predicted as 2125 hours instead of 0655, or 870 minutes late.

If the estimated times become reality, that means on a gate-to-gate basis this QF1D flight will be 110 minutes faster than the timetable. The normal QF1 often picks up time on the second leg in any case.

Also on Tuesday 3, QF417 (B738 VH-VZV, the 0830 hours SYD down to MEL that took off at 0900, about 15 minutes late) should arrive at 1036, 31 late due to the usual Mt Buller hold.

Continuing with Tuesday 3 July 2018, QF29 from MEL to HKG departed 71 late at 1020 so arrival has become an estimatd 65 minutes behind schedule at 1825 early this evening, local time.

The 1015 hours SYD up to SIN, QF81, is estimated to depart 45 late and arrive at 1725, 35 late.

QF2 ex LHR tonight local time remains displaying as punctual but this is most unlikely as QF1 only departed SYD at 0815 hours this morning, as noted above. It may be due to QF often not changing public times until after the aircraft has reached cruise on its previous sector, in this case ex SIN later today. One hopes passengers are kept informed by messages to devices, as some have to travel substantial distances to reach any airport.

Monday 2 July's QF12 departed JFK 66 minutes tardy at 1916 hours with LAX arrival suggested as 2210, 70 minutes late. This will delay the SYD-bound QF12 as well as QF16 to BNE. As QF96 does not run on Monday nights ex LAX, QF94 will be slightly delayed: QF expects it to depart half an hour late from LAX.

There's a north wind at MEL gusting to 50kmh at around 1100 on Tuesday 3 July. QF422, the 1000 hours MEL - SYD took off at 1121 with A332 VH-EBF and should arrive at 1230, 65 late.

Opposite number, southbound QF421 (B738 VH-XZA), the 0930 hours ex SYD took off at 1011 and after the standard holding above Mt Buller should arrive at 1139 hours, 34 late.

QF81 departed SYD at 1111 hours, a little later than expected, so arrival has bcome 1733, 43 late for A333 VH-QPC.

In more on Tuesday 3 July, B717 VH-NXI on QF1709, the morning 1040 hours CNS down to BNE, took off at 1144. Expected arrival is 50 minutes tardy at 1335.

The 1145 hours MEL - CBR, QF848 has B738 VH-XZA and took off at 1243, so forecast arrival is 1329 hours, 39 late.

QF117 is again delayed, with departure predicted from SYD 40 late. HKG arrival may still be on time.

After arriving 88 minutes late on QF26 ex NRT, B744 VH-OEG on QF27 (Tuesday 3 July scheduled 1235 hours from SYD for the long flight to SCL) was in the sky at 1553, so arrival is delayed until an expected 1414 hours, 184 late. This means the returning QF28 should depart at about 1600 hours from SCL with Wednesday 4 July arrival at about 2000 hours if the turnaround time is efficient.

QF642 from PER to SYD on Tuesday 3 has A332 VH-EBC and should arrive at 1630 hours, 40 minutes tardy.

It hasn't been updated on the QF site, but QF1D that departed SYD at 0815 hours on Tuesday 3 July was airborne from SIN at 1554, meaning estimated LHR arrival at 2210 according to FR24 also on Tuesday night. Based on other recent timings, it may arrive somewhat earlier than this prediction.

Oddly, QF2 ex LHR tonight remains displayed as departing on time at 2115 which is impossible. On one recent occasion, QF cancelled it in a similar situation. LHR has a certain number of annual flights that can use the 'small hours': including arrivals and departures, from memory it's about 5500 which when one divides by 365 and then by two is not all that many per night.

On Tuesday 3 July, QF62 departed NRT at 2948 hours, 53 late with Wednesday 4 arrival suggested for BNE as 0648, also 53 late.

The overnight delayed QF1 that was timetabled to depart SYD on Monday 1 July (VH-OQF) arrived LHR at 2145 hours on Tuesday 3 July instead of 0655.

Despite strong winds to 56kmh at MEL on the morning of Wednesday 4 July, there do not seem to be many delays. However QF605, the 0600 hours BNE down to MEL (B738 VH-VZP) was late in taking off at 0647 so likely arrival is 0855, half an hour late.

UPDATE: QF is finally showing an estimated departure (Tuesday 3) for QF2 of 2340 hours from LHR, 145 minutes late. It may have had to clarify with ATC whether the flight would be permitted to depart so late.

QF94 (A388 VH-OQA) should arrive in MEL (ex LAX) at 0912 hours, 102 late.

On Tuesday 3 July, QF2 departed LHR at 2338, 143 minutes late. SIN arrival on Wednesday 4 is estimated at 1948, also 143 late, so although yet to be displaying, expect departure tonight from latter at about 2120 for a SYD arrival some time after 0620 on Thursday 5. Scheduled arrival is 0510.

The 0730 hours SYD down to MEL (QF411, A332 VH-EBF) did not take off until 0829 on 4 July so arrival is estimated at 1006 hours, 61 late, not helped by a holding pattern above Mt Buller.

QF575 has A332 VH-EBJ and is the 0825 hours Wednesday 4 July SYD - PER that was in the sky at 0926 for a projected 33 late, 1203 hours arrival.

Continuing with Wednesday 4 July 2018, QF427 (B738 VH-VZD, the 1100 hours SYD down to MEL that was in the sky at 1213) should arrive on a day of strong winds in MEL at 1333 hours, 58 minutes behind the timetable.

QF63, the 1055 hours to JNB has been delayed on a few recent days. Today is no exception, with departure from SYD at 1237. B744Vh-OJU took off to the north at 1255 and should arrive at 1853 hours, 113 late. This will delay the returning overnight QF64.

The 1235 hours SYD - DFW long flight, QF7 is predicted to have its A388 depart 55 minutes tardy with arrival 45 late at 1345 same day.

QF12 departed LAX on Tuesday 3 July at 2356, 86 late and hence on Friday 5 should arrive in SYD at about 0734, 64 late.

The delayed QF2 just arrived in SIN at 1936 hours, 131 minute slate and a gain of 12 minutes on a gate-to-gate basis for the trip from LHR. Depature for SYD remains at a predicted 2115 with arrival on Thursday 5 at 0650 hours, 100 minutes late.
