Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Thanks Flyerqf.

At a minimum, even if each aircraft only operated two sectors a day - one out and one back - that means at 75 per cent occupancy roughly 2600 passengers a day that have to be 'reaccommodated' - transferred - to other flights.

Not significant in terms of the total number QF conveys each day, but complex because as we all know, lots of passengers using international flights are not 'OD traffic' - they connect from or to other destinations, and sometimes both.
QF41 is delayed today too. May be awaiting the inbound QF108.

Oh dear (again.) Projected delay to QF129 SYD - PVG has increased, yet again, to 1450 hours ex the mainland Harbour City. Arrival in the 'autonomous region' that is increasingly not becomes an estimated 2315 hours rather than 1825 hours.

QF130 tonight ex PVG won't be able to depart until at least 0030 hours on Monday 16, meaning SYD arrival at 1300 hours compared to the timetabled 0825 hours.

Thanks Flyerqf: QF41 from SYD is predicted to depart 125 minutes late at 1550 for a CGK arrival at about 2040 tonight, two hours late. QF42 overnight back to SYD will also be delayed.

QF3 has had a 744 subbed in. Not sure how they operate the return sector given there would be no 744 crew sitting at HNL.

QF73 1245 scheduled departure is yet to depart from SYD.

Transcon QF12 was taxiing for nearly 1.5 hrs and is expected late into LAX for the 2nd night in a row.

Looks like QF129 pushed back and then experienced a hydraulics issue and is still on the ground, approaching 6 hour delay.

I would have thought that delaying QF25 overnight, such that it only uses 1 aircraft for a day, and sending a 747 to NRT, given they have 744 crew in Tokyo, would allow a A330 to cover one of the disabled aircraft would be easier from a crewing prospective

Agree, although both NRT flights have already left today. Another option would have to been to swap the 744 for the QF117/118 which is an A330.

Looks like the Sunday QF4 has been delayed overnight so the crew will have a 24 hr break then operate the 744 back.

In further on Sunday 15 April, QF7, the 1235 hours from SYD to DFW departed 50 minutes late. Arrival is suggested as 1330 hours, half an hour tardy.

The late QF9 that departed MEL/PER on Saturday 14 arrived LHR at 0646 hours, 101 minutes late.

Today (Sunday), QF9 is again delayed with projected departure 45 late at 1600, but that time has passed.

QF41 was apparently delayed due to a delayed inbound flight from AKL with pax going onward to CGK. Seems strange but possible.

QF129 still hasn’t departed!

Continuing with Sunday 15 April 2018, QF41 ended up departing SYD at 1619 hours, 154 minutes late. Arrival should be at 2050 tonight in CGK, 130 minutes past what the timetable says. QF42 back to SYD should be able to commence pushing back at around the 2205 mark.

The B744 from SYD to SFO departed at a similar time, 1615 hours (210 minutes late) with same day arrival predicted as 1205 hours, 180 late.

Another B744, QF27 from SYD to SCL was 80 minutes tardy in being off its blocks at 1255 this arvo; same day arrival should be at 1225 hours, 75 minutes late.

Although 'the 15' was showing as two hours late expected ex BNE, it did not get away until 1334 hours (204 minutes behind time) so same day LAX arrival has become 0835 hours, 155 minutes late.

The numerous late flights coupled with some cancellations in the last couple of days for QFi do not compare well to offshore-based competitors. 'Safety' is a given - running on or very close to time remains important for many travellers as not everyone can have extra time up their sleeve: the passenger connecting to another means of transport that only runs once a day, the businessman attending that important meeting because videoconferencing is unsatisfactory or the lady attending a relative's funeral overseas are three possibilities.

QF129 pax have been onboard for 5 hours - looks like they are about to take off on their 11 your journey to Pudong.

This will mean another A330 out of rotation for tomorrow.

That means four - if I can count: three A333s and one A332.

No USA-style regulations/ legislation re tarmac delays. Not that we should slavishly copy it.

Yes - the 333 are in HNL (delayed but due back into SYD tomorrow), BNE (diverted to MEL after emergency on PER SYD) & the one that will be enroute to/from PVG. The 332. The 332 is at BNE (returned after take off for AKL)

It appears QF129 has A333 VH-QPD that arrived from HNL as QF4 seven minutes early at 1703 hours and then departed for PVG at 1803. If so, a very impressive turnaround.

QF129 pax may have been on board for five hours but not on the aircraft on which they departed - if FR24 is correct.

Further to QF129's travails, PVG arrival should be at the unseemly hour of 0228 - a novel way to greet Monday 16 morning, especially if one has an 0930 hours business meeting.

QF130 should be able to depart PVG at 0345 hours - again, not a favourite time - which would be 475 long minutes late - with likely SYD arrival at 1620 on Monday arvo, also 475 minutes delayed.

QF569 (Sunday 1635 hours latish afternoon SYD - PER that took off at 1801, B738 VH-XZH) should arrive at 2035, 55 late.

The 1810 hours early evening MEL - BNE, QF532 (B738 VH-VXK) took off at 1943 so arrival is delayed until 2205 late tonight, 105 minutes tardy.

QF477, the 1815 hours SYD down to MEL that was in the sky at 1911 (B738 VH-VXT) should arrive at 2025, 35 minutes behind the timetable. QF459, the 1800 hours did not take off until 1915, so it is behind 477; 459 should be in MEL at its allocated gate at 2027, 52 minutes late.

QF129 didn’t change aircraft, it departed as QPG as originally scheduled. Pax didn’t disembark. It arrived from HNL the day prior.

QPD is currently enroute to HKG as QF117 (Saturday delayed flight)

Oops, sorry, Flyerqf.

Also on 15 April, QF465 (1900 hours SYD - MEL) departed at 2004 hours; B738 VH-VXH should arrive at 2122 tonight, 47 late.
'
QF551 from BNE down to SYD (a JohnK favourite) has VH-VZG and should arrive 35 minutes late at 2045 hours.

Continuing with Sunday 15 April 2018, QF9 was in PER from 1743 (28 minutes tardy) to 1923 (38 late) with arrival on Monday 16 expected at 0610, 65 minutes late.

Due to the very late QF15 from BNE, QF11 ex LAX is expected to depart at 1100 hours, 160 minutes behind the timetable with JFK arrival at 1925 instead of 1640. The 1810 hours JFK - :LAX (QF12) may be able to depart at 2050, so one or more of the LAX to east coast flights Oz flights will be delayed on Sunday night USA time.

This may result in delays to QF15 ex BNE (and perhaps one of the other two ex MEL or BNE) on Tuesday morning.
