Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

QF589 BNE - PER has diverted to ADL with reports is landed on one engine after one being shutdown mid flight.

If you look at FR24, it shows a descent from FL380 to FL220...which would fit in with an engine shutdown.

On holiday in MNL?

Melburnian1 copped a lot of stick early on for "his" threads, but everyone seems to notice when he's not here.

Speaking of MNL, last night’s QF20 due out of MNL at 7pm, was delayed until this morning 8am, and as a result is due into SYD this evening at 7.30pm, some 13 hours later than this morning’s 6.15am scheduled arrival.

On Sunday 5 February, QF81 departed SYD 63 late at 1238 with suggested SIN arrival at 1730, 45 minutes tardy.

QF73 is delayed in its SYD departure by half an hour to 1825, but this by no means indicates it will be late into SFO.

Apologies if my typing has misspellings as where I am has fairly poor WiFi.

Maintenance best done in BNE perhaps? Or a/c required later in day in BNE?
There are faults/problems that aren't critical to safety in-flight, but you wouldn't want to leave nice solid ground knowing you had them.

Take an aircraft to ISA and depending on the fault, maybe you've got to ship a part by road, or stick it in the back of another Dash 8. Probably after you've send a couple of engineers too, to have a good look at the fault. Regional operations are tricky and this may have been the best outcome in the long run, as strange as it sounds.

If this was Air Asia...

The reason Air Asia are always mentioned is that they flew away from a suitable airport, after an engine failure in a twin. There is little excuse for that. And, they didn't just do it once....

There are lots of reason for diverting. I haven't been able to find an ADSB trace for the flight, so I can't make any guesses.

The aircraft apparently departed ISA and diverted to BNE. Closer to CNS and several other ports on the coast.

To me this seemed (initially) more a weather issue along the coast causing a divert but media is reporting as a “mechanical” issue. Some issue with weather radar?

(FR24 list QF2475 as cancelled - never departed ISA. So unable to say where the aircraft is or what’s was it’s rego.

I believe it was -QOB (after going through the fleet...). But can't find any more info.

Most unusual it's not viewable on FR24
Thanks Must...Fly!, it was VH-QOB.

I now believe it was actually cancelled and did not depart ISA. Instead it remained at ISA until the next afternoon when it operated ISA-CNS as QF673.

Perhaps some passengers were put on QF2703 ISA-BNE instead which departed at 1910hrs - at least those that wanted to. I think there is only one flight a day ISA-TSV and it’s in the evening at 1840. So anyone who needed to be in TSV would have gone to BNE to connect the next morning.

Sent on a wild goose chase by fake news media
I believe FNM got on to it after some passengers complained to say instead of going TSV they were being sent to BNE after flight was cancelled due to mechanical fault. FNM then thought flight was diverted even though it was cancelled

On Thursday 8 February, QF1514, the peak hour CBR - SYD normally departing at 0800 hours was cancelled. This is Australia's worst route for cancellations. Bring on high speed trains.

QF127, the 0930 hours SYD to HKG is delayed until 1200 'high noon' but there is no obvious late arrival causing this. HKG arrival is expected 100 late at 1730 which means 50 minutes of the delay should be picked up.

The Wednesday 7 QF12 from JFK across to LAX departed 62 late at 1902 with arrival suggested as 47 down at 2142.
