Qantas Delays/Cancellations

That is expensive damage to both aircraft - one has to ask what else was damaged

Thank you again FlyboyAl.

The B717 damaged in BNE, VH-YQU had yesterday come in from ASP. This morning, Monday 14 November 2016, it appears as if it was meant to operate QF1780, the 0900 hours from BNE to the lovely shortened ISA, but perhaps not unexpectedly in view of the damage, that flight has been delayed until an expected 1225 hours departure ( a few minutes ago). VH-YQU does not seem to have operated any flights since yesterday.

What was the registration 'number' of the damaged B738? Is it (as expected) inoperable today?

Meanwhile on Sunday 13 November the delayed QF20 that was meant to depart at 2355 instead did so from MNL at 0037 hours on Monday 14, arriving SYD at 1119, 19 minutes late. QF20 on Monday 14 then departed SYD at 1300 hours, 35 minutes late and is expected to arrive 25 minutes late at 1800 early this evening MNL time.

On Monday 14, A388 VH-OQL on the 1115 MEL - LAX (QF93) took off at 1248. Arrival should be about 49 minutes late, same day, at 0724 hours.

In further on Monday 14 November, QF703, the 'high noon' 1200 CNS - MEL took off at 1232; arrival of B738 VH-VZV should be 34 minutes behind at 1654.

UPDATE: QF2031, the 1710 hours ARM - SYD took off at 1859 hours with Q300 VH-SBG, so it should arrive at 2009 hours, 99 minutes later than the timetabeld 1830.

The 1600 hours QF927 from CNS down to SYD was airborne at 1706; it should arrive at 2042 hours, 42 minutes behind with B738 VH-VXU.

Monday 14 November sees QF426, the 1100 (amended it appears by ATC to '1101') MEL - SYD having taken off at 1201 for an expected 1258 hours, 33 minute tardy arrival for B738 VH-VXU.

QF2190 from SYD to MRZ has been delayed in its departure from 'high noon' (1200) to an expected, unusual and probably ATC-allocated 'exact' time of 1314. In theory these exact times are a good idea, but in practice they appear to rarely be adhered to.

As far as I am aware, ATC does not amend (intentionally) ETD's. They also don't allocate 'exact' times for departure. The aircraft calls for pushback, then taxi, and then trundles down to the holding point and waits for the ADC (Tower) to pick a gap between arrivals to depart the aircraft. Apart from the rule set of their pushback/taxi parameters, ATC don't really care who goes when, just deal with them as they come

Thank you iRobbo. If ATC is not changing this from (say) 1100 hours to 1101, someone is, because presumably the individuals at FR24 don't just make this up. Is it the individual airline - which begs the question, what purpose could there be? It doesn't really alter the close-off for checking in luggage, or checking in generally. No individual airline where there are competitors will have complete knowledge of "exactly" what time aircrafts X and Y from competitors A and B are going to push back, or be ready at a holding point to ask for clearance for departure.

Normally in Australia there is a sort of fiction with departure times because even with two runways, five different flights, perhaps with varying aircraft types, cannot depart from say SYD at exactly (say) 0800 hours. I am simplifying things because the slots will be based on ensuring that the total number of movements is, in theory, feasible and on top of that at some airports such as SYD there is a maximum number of movements per quarter hour (20) and per hour (80), and only three or four arrivals (but no RPT departures) between 0501 and 0600 hours (or perhaps 0500 to 0559), and nothing except freighters and emergency services aircraft between 2300 and 0500.

On Tuesday 15 November 2016, what may be either a charter or an empty working, QF6014 is coming into MEL ex HKG with gate arrival suggested as about 0800 hours with B744 VH-OEI the aircraft. The regular QF30 on the same route, B744 VH-OEGF is about 25 minutes behind and running about 20 minutes late with arrival likely just before 0835.

On Tuesday 15 November 2016, the 1115 hours SYD to HKG (QF127) departed at 1216 with arrival forecast as 34 minutes late at 1759.

While its more southerly colleague QF29 was 42 minutes late in pushing back at 1142, it arrived bang on time at 1740 HKG time.

QF63 was 38 minutes tardy in departing at 1213 but it should pull in to the JNB terminal, after its journey from SYD, at about 1650, only 15 minutes behind.

A bit of info about the 737 here, but no rego details: Qantas confirms Boeing 737-800 damaged in Brisbane storms | Australian Aviation

Seriously..?
Seems a fair question.

Perhaps JB747 is referring to the first line, about the 717 with several large holes in the outer skin, and presumably damage behind them. I presume this means quite a bit of work to replace panels. VH-YQU hasn't operated since 13/11 and so the id from Melburnian1 is probably correct.

VH-VZW also hasn't flown since arriving in BRI from SYD on 13/11, so perhaps it was the 737 that sustained the most damage.

I don't know about the 737, but the pictures of the 717 show serious damage. Not only does the skin have to be replaced, which most likely means getting hold of new skin panels, but given the depth and size of the wounds there will have to be a serious look at the stringers and frames behind them. Just working out what needs to be done, and planning the repair would be time consuming.

Poorly repaired skin damage has had some very undesirable results in the past. I wouldn't like to guess a repair time, but it won't be on line in a day or so.

On Wednesday 16 November, QF756, the 1445 ADL - SYD that is timetabled to arrive at 1710 should instead be at its terminal gate at 1824, 74 minutes late. B738 VH-VYA is undertaking the task.

QF233, the 1805 hours early evening MEL - CBR and the 1845 hours MEL - SYD, QF478, have been cancelled.

The 1120 hours PER - BNE, A332 VH-EBM (QF598) is very late, not having taken off until 1327. Arrival should be at 1953, 128 minutes late.

QF768 (the 1500 hours mid afternoon PER - MEL, A332 VH-EBB) was in the sky at 1559. It should be at its destination terminal gate at roughly 2204, 29 late. Well ahead of it, QF476 (A332 VH-EBK) took off at 1350 hours, 50 minutes after scheduled pushback, and is also 29 minutes late with arrival suggested as 2004 early this evening.

The 1910 hours also early evening BNE - CBR, QF1553 (B717 VH-NXR) was airborne at 2025 hours. It is forecast to be on blocks in CBR at 2259, a minute shy of an hour tardy.

The 2230 hours TransPacific longhaul QF12 departed LAX 55 minutes behind schedule on Tuesday 15 November, so Thursday 17 arrival is predicted as 0910, 40 minutes late. B744 VH-OJU is the aircraft.

The 0810 hours SYD - ABX Thursday 17 November 2016 QF2205 departed at 0935 with arrival forecast for 1049 instead of 0920 hours. Q300 VH-TQZ is undertaking the duty.

QF2020 (0820 hours from SYD up to ARM) departed at 0854 but should gain a little time enroute with likely arrival 21 minutes late at 1001 this morning.

QF2086 is expected to depart MEL half an hour late at 1940 hours on Thursday 16 September for MQL due to the predicted 24 minute late arrival, at 1904 hours, of the incoming flight.

QF743 (1815 hours SYD across to ADL that was airborne at 1913 hours) should pull in at 2025 hours, 35 minutes tardy. Aircraft is B738 VH-VZW.
