QANTAS Cyber Incident

Seems to have been more than just a couple. Strange glitches. Now sorted.

It’s bullshit.
All my details except a credit card. And I get an apology. Nah not good enough.

My comment was somewhat tongue-in-cheek. Nevertheless, having someone’s email address, DOB, home address and phone number, anything is possible for those who have the technical ability.
Exactly.
An apology does not cut it
They now have enough details to do what they want.

It’s not about credit card details. They can be cancelled.
It’s the fact this happened and how?
Name and other details taken is bad enough.

It also the fact an email comes out and says basically “oh sorry”.
Not good enough.

Looking forward to that free return trip first class to Doha.

How do we know that the Qantas email detailing our level of intimacy (you're f*&%$d, but how deep) is actually from Qantas. The hacker knows as much about each of us as does Qantas. For all we know these email come directly from the hackers.

This Cyber incident is getting out of hand. At first I received an email from QF stating someone has my name, QFF number and address and I thought, "well that's the run of the mill data breach. Nothing to worry about!"

I just received an email from Qantas and the list of items has expanded as they have continued their investigation, some of which I didn't even realize they had (emphasis added):
  • Address
  • Name
  • Email address
  • Qantas Frequent Flyer number
  • Tier
  • Passport Number
  • Citizenship
  • Blood Type
  • Mother’s Maiden Name
  • Alternate Breakfast Main Course Option at Chairman’s Lounge
  • Points balance
  • Status Credits
• Phone number

Yes Ive also had this lucky text. Havn't flown Qantas for years. A free airfare isn't going to cut it. Ive had my email handle for 30 years. don't want to change it.
No more talking to overseas phone centres for me. Ask to be transfered to NZ or Oz or hang up and keep trying to get a local connection. Its bad enough that the companies don't even employ people who can speak clear and coherent English any more. Now this!

Wow! That's beyond bad. I'm now holding my breath about getting a second "but wait, there's more" email.
I will be writing to Qantas asking for a full listing of the types of personal information they have of me - as allowed under the Privacy Act, so at least I have a proper record. They do have 30 days to respond, although imagine they will take a bit longer given the circumstances.

First time reading @kangarooflyer88’s posts? 😂

I've not reached preservation age yet - can super accounts/SMSF's be drained using the key 9 points of data and/or similar social-engineering methods as Manila?

Good to see some folks can still make light-hearted jokes about bingo at this point... good luck all 🥸

Short answer - No
TFN is the main criteria for a super roller
ESA's for SMSF's
Certified ID if the request is manual

My GOV being hacked is the biggest cause of rollovers/transfers from super funds

Then if under 60, it can't easily be withdrawn, unless you are terminally ill or the ATO has approved a release (so it gets complicated)

If you are over 60 with a normal super fund (not SMSF), I'd be contacting your super fund to stop rollovers unless a phone call is made to your financial adviser or you. IE: Block my GOV rollovers....

Can you clarify that this is not a joke? Hard to tell in here sometimes, and I can see some members have left “Laugh” reaction emojis.

A CEO, Platinum member friend has received the QF email and his passport number was included.
Qantas is using South African call centre to answer questions. They can’t answer questions as they are just reading from a script. Lawyers have been called in.

About to get serious apparently. That is lawyers v Qantas.
Sounds like another Optus.

Still waiting on my third email, but Mrsoatek got hers' yesterday.

Unlikely that they have more on Mrsoatek than myself, as all QF travel in recent years has been together, but who knows.

So at the lower end for Mrsoatek:
-Name
-Email address
-Frequent flyer #
-Tier
-DoB
-Phone number (prob mobile, but could be landline)
