Qantas cuts Auckland flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane

Very strange, but if you or anyone goes to the QF booking website, it still lists a lot of QF flights from SYD and MEL to AKL, and not the majority JQ flights at that either.
I think someone at QF forgot to update the QF booking website that a lot of QF's JetConnect flights will be taken over by JQ.

There is the very big chance that the booking engine hasn't been updated yet. Unlikely it has been forgotten about considering the changes were just announced. As for the an example of being moved onto JQ - have a look at what PER pax were offered when QF culled the SIN route. The vouchers were more than $5 from memory.

Elderly J seats? I was under hte impression that the Jetconnect aircraft were not particularly old - only a few years. What is wrong with the seats?

I agree - just because a J seat is only a recliner it doesn't make it an elderly seat. What is the NZ equivalent across the ditch (I thought it was mainly A320 LCC type offering).

NZ do operate daily wide bodies with lay flat J across the ditch - 777 and (less and less) 744.

Last regular 744 to BNE next month and SYD gets a final one off flight according to airline route, plenty of 767s as well:

Air New Zealand on 06SEP14 plans one-time Boeing 747-400 operation on Auckland – Sydney route, prior to retirement. This is currently scheduled to be Air New Zealand’s last 747 scheduled service to Sydney, as well as Australia, although this remain subject to change.

NZ103 AKL0900 – 1030SYD 744
NZ104 SYD1230 – 1730AKL 744

NZ’s last 747 service to Brisbane remains unchanged on 13JUL14, while overall final 747 service also remains unchanged on 10SEP14, San Francisco to Auckland.

The aircraft might only be around four years old but the seats have seen a lot more service than the aircraft. The IES screens droop, many seats will not sit properly upright once weight is applied to them by a person sitting, some tray tables are either a V or an inverted V when laid out, the foot rests are a challenge...........

Doing a dummy booking for NZ103 on 6 September only shows a B772. Do you reckon the booking engine hasn't been updated yet?

I did not mention 767's as they do not have lay flat seating in Business. (Although they are great for a daytime/evening flight across the ditch.)

I missed an update, last service to Aus is now the BNE flight

Air New Zealand has further revised planned last Boeing 747-400 operations to Australia. Based on latest schedule update, the Star Alliance member has cancelled planned one-off 747 service to Sydney, on 06SEP14. NZ103/104 on this date is operated by Boeing 777-200ER instead.

NZ103 AKL0900 – 1030SYD 772
NZ104 SYD1230 – 1730AKL 772

As a result of this aircraft adjustment, Air New Zealand’s last Boeing 747 service to Australia is now scheduled on 13JUL14, Auckland – Brisbane route.

Still can't see the B744-operated flight. :( Booking engine shows NZ135 (B772) and NZ139 (B763) only on 13 July.

NZ's 767s are great in D or Z subclasses of J as they face straight forward.
I prefer these than angled, as in 777 or 787.
767 straight ahead easier to stare out window.
If only JetConnect kept some of QF's 330. Impossible now, but I can dream.

Pi^^ take, we could of course charter a 747, would nobble us financially, but just imagine.
PS lucky EK still flies SYD to AKL and CHC.

Unless there was a set time by which you had to arrive in AKL, why wouldn't you choose EK over JQ (or QF, for that matter)? The gulf between EK's A380 and QF's B738 hard product is already wide as it is, let alone a further downgrade to JQ's A320.

why would anyone fly QF to AKL anyway when you can fly the EK A380 :)

Maybe because some people don't know the difference because they make a booking on the EK website wanting the A380, and book an EK codeshare flight (operated by QF) instead of the flight on EK metal and don't read the fine print saying "flight operated by Qantas Airways" or notice the aircraft type says "Boeing 737-800".

With the recent announcement of the EK/JQ codeshare agreement I can see more of that happening when people wide eyed with anticipation of travelling on the A380 don't notice the fine print about the aircraft being a) on JQ & b) A320.

The 4:30am wakeup for the MEL-AKL flight is annoying to fly with EK but in J/F it's worth it

I recently had to book MEL-ZQN, and have chosen to transit MEL-AKL on EK J then AKL-ZQN on NZ and the reverse to get home

Not interest in flying direct to NZ on a 737 with an inferior J product on "QF"

Last time I flew BNE-AKL there was a passenger almost verbally abusing the ground staff in Brisbane when they saw the plane was a Qantas Boeing 737. They said that they had booked with Emirates and as it was an EK flight number the demanded to be put onto an Emirates flight - even though this was on QF126 (so in the evening) and the next Emirates flight wasn't til the following day... Apparently this person had never heard of codesharing...

Of course it wasn't their fault for not reading all the information about their booking. I mean really, who does that? Or pays attention to what they are paying for? ;)

I made the same mistake. Many years ago - booked Qantas to fly to India (via SIN codeshare) and mistakenly thought I'd get all the benefits of QF membership. How wrong I was - no priority check-in, no lounges, no priority baggage, no access to special seating. And I was booked all the way on qantas flight numbers and forked over my money to Qantas. The fine print says I wasn't going to get all the benefits - but I didn't know until it was too late (at the airport).

Any airline could very easily highlight whether or not you will or won't get services when taking a code-share.

QF 126 has had a schedule change. Now departs AKL at 17:00 arrives BNE at 17:40.

Makes connections out of BNE more difficult.

I am booked in January on QF156 on a Thursday - I suspect I'll be moved to QF186.

Works better for me as it leaves 1½ hours earlier than the 9:35pm-11:45pm of QF156. ...
As suspected, I have been moved to QF186, arriving MEL 10pm - much better than 11:45pm.

I dread to think what would have happened has I been on non QF186 day ... (Business award through DM) ...

Have it on good authority that the mainline operated flights to ZQN will be taken over by Jetconnect so that those 738s can be better utilised for DOM flying.

Makes sense. But does that cover all of the extra aircraft availability? Thought ZQN was only once a day from SYD, and not every day..
