ADL is getting 2 flights a week to Uluru. 1 x Wednesday, 1 x Saturday, starting Q1 next year.

I note from the article that QF considers the 737 to be 'more luxurious' than the 717.
The 717s on the DRW to ASP routes are often if not always the old, unrefurbished and Y only craft. So for once I'd have to agree with the QF spin that it is a more luxurious offering.

I find the 717 to be more luxurious when travelling in the business cabin. Although obviously, if it is an all economy plane it's not as nice... though I prefer the 2-3 layout to 3-3.

Agree re the 717 J cabin.

The ABC has an article a number of flights being cut by QF - from Cairns and Perth to Darwin and Alice Springs. Some new flights have been added but from a Perth point of view, at least, it looks like a big reduction.

Qantas to axe 'half-full' flights across northern Australia
Massively concerned. Called Qanytas who said my flights to Cairns from Perth via Alice look ok for Jan 11. I'm then flying Cairns to Tokyo. Yet the article says the flights are gone. is there a date? Qantas didn't have any further info and I don't need last second changes from Perth as it will prove hard to get to Cairns for my other flight. Not overly impressed!

Have a look at this Qantas Media Release. It says the operative date will be 31 March 2019. See the last line in the "Network Changes" section.

Besides the above post, they would have to accommodate you, not you them, so you would have had as much 'reasonable' bargaining power as required in the situation.

If I was stuck in economy on either, I’d Prefer 717 anyway.

There'd certainly be no fighting for the upfront toilet on the all-Y 717 ;)

Agreed. Catering is only a bottle of water.

The Advertiser are reporting this morning that fares from ADL to Uluru are $299 one way.

Good. I paid almost $850/person ADL-ASP-AYQ return in FEB 2018.

Heaps expensive to visit the rock.

Interesting, as I've never been on a Perth-Darwin flight less than 90% full during both wet and dry seasons. Although with construction ramping down in Darwin forward bookings may be down. But the last 5 years never seen a plane either way with less than 15 empty seats.

Interesting experience there compared to what I am about to share... on an even shorter all-Y 717 flying AYQ-ASP and then onwards to SYD and OOL on same ticket, when my family and I sat down in row 1 and we were waiting for the door to close, the CSM offered us refreshments. Only offered to us, no one else, even though others were sat around. Only Platinum. Was really weird.

We are battling Qantas today as we have the direct Perth London flight booked again in May and now there’s no connection Alice to Perth that enables us to connect on the same day, at the start or end of trip. This is in spite of the whole trip being booked and paid for months ago. So today they told us we could stay in Perth for 6 nights then get the direct flight home .... which isn’t in our plans or budget!

We are far from impressed! With Perth and Cairns flights gone, it certainly makes us more isolated.

Any suggestions on how to bargain with Qantas on getting a trip that was as convenient as the one we have booked .... and not incurring extra cost?

Not much mention of the fact that some of the cancelled flights will be replaced by JQ... which is marginally better than nothing.
