Anyone have any experience applying for this as a temporary resident (I'm currently on 457 visa)? I can provide payslips but haven't filed a tax return yet so obviously couldn't provide that. The offer is attractive in terms of QFF points and I'd like to start building up a credit history in Oz.
 
Should give them a call and see what they say. A tax return shouldn't matter, as long as you have a TFN.

I am a bit confused about the T&C: if I were to apply today and let's say I make my first purchase in October, does it mean I can only earn 15,000 points until 31st of December, or am I still eligible to earn up to 30,000 points till end of March 2013?

This joining fee waiver is offered by Qantas Staff Credit Union. It is available to new applicants or existing Visa Platinum credit card account holders who are not already Qantas Frequent Flyer members and who apply for membership online at qantas.com/joinqffqscu. This offer is non-transferable and not available in conjunction with any other offer. Qantas Frequent Flyer membership and each application is subject to approval by Qantas.
 
Every points earing card offers free membership to the QFF program, and there are many other ways to sign up free of charge also.
 
As I understand it, the 30,000 points with this card is in 5,000 points tranches per month assuming you spending something each month. If I get the card in October, can I still get the full 30,000 or did the last of the 6 months have to be December, in which case the maximum bonus now is 15,000?
 
As far as i gathered, as long as you apply/approved before the december date quoted; you shall recieve the 30k points.

approved in October and purchased that same month will land you 5k points bonus + spending. just make sure you continue for another 5 months. Meaning until Feb.

Been watching this one for a while.
Is there a "balance transfer" option and does this close another CC? In my case the JQ Platinum.

Is step 1 still to open a savings account first?

It offers 4.99% for 5 months on 'balance transfers' and purchases.
Still have to open a savings account AFAIK.
 
I was looking through the terms and conditions before I clicked join but there is something about a $10 membership fee for the credit union. Can someone explain that?
 
My credit union charged that $10 as 'shares', I guess that unlike a bank you are all co-owners in theory?
I also understand that you get the $10 back if you close the account
