What is the GO with Qantas charging transaction fees for using a credit card.

I understand that the user pays for using the credit card and happily (annoyingly) pay the $4.40, can't really avoid it unless you Bpay.

My gripe is that I just got stung for booking two tickets ($8.80) for the one transaction.

What the??

How can they charge 2 x $4.40 fees for one transaction, same booking ref. no. and same flight.

NOT HAPPY JAN!

Has this happened to anyone else and how can you avoid it.

Even though most of my travel is business related and I pass the charge onto the client, I just find it wrong and profiting for profits sake.

Surely it does not cost Qantas $8.80 to process one transaction or $4.40 for that matter.

I'll get off my soap box now.

You can try avoiding it by booking from another place which does not charge a credit card surcharge. It is not mandatory to use the QF website to do so. They do, as u mention, offer a bpay option to avoid the CC surcharge

They charge it because they can

You're preaching to the choir Nathan75, and as Dave Noble says, QF charge it because they can.

Perhaps you could write to the AAAC and ask them to explain how their credit card reforms have created more competition and not an environment where consumers are being gouged. Look forward to a very short reply because the details of your experience indicates otherwise.

At least QF didn't say they'd never introduce a CC surcharge......

I find it particularly galling when they are trying to encourage passengers to book online rather than use travel agents or over the counter, and of the two methods you can use to pay - Bpay or CC - they whack a surcharge on the method where they get their money straight away.

If they want us to pay them directly (rather than using travel agents) they really shouldn't be hitting us with surcharges for doing so, should they?

Whoopsie. Meant to say RBA, not AAAC. Even then it should have been ACCC.

Think I need a lie down....
