Qantas Courtesy Upgrade Love

I mostly fly at peak times so planes heavily loaded with full J, so don't give much hope on an op-up.

PS. Checking the seats in J when you are booked in Y and hoping for an op-up definitely make you a frequent flyer! (another thread on AFF)

Flew domestic this morning, myself WP and a CL next to me. Two spare seats in J - they flew empty. Guess it's a lucky dip!

DP: I've flown a couple of MEL/SYD/MEL trips in the last fortnight as a single pax and haven't had any joy. One of the sectors had a very empty J cabin, but I think the others were ~80% full.

I did SYD > MEL yesterday with a couple spare seats in J, no upgrade. I’m on a fairly lightly loaded SYD > SIN tomorrow, sale Y fare, lets see how I go.

Single pax.

To avoid embarrassment at the lounge check the Qantas app before you arrive! I asked for an earlier flight to be told that I was travelling business and the flight change was actioned! Seems the love has reached me though on the shortest leg of 5 flights all others 2 hrs plus.

Clearly upgrades aren't guaranteed even with space available - what other criteria are QF using?

I didn't know if this has an effect but my WLG-BNE flight was two hours late and my MEL-ADL has no wi-fi, both for which I received an apology from Qantas. I also just renewed WP two months out. (PS. Flying on an earlier MEL-ADL in upgraded J, so hopefully wi-fi is working). ( PPS still to get my gift from Qantas but will be no use)

I'm on the upcoming QF597 OOL>SYD. I'm in J for this flight, and looking at the seat maps, it appears that I have a shadow and there were still 3 vacant seats, with Expert Flyer showing J4 C4 D4 I4 U1 a short while ago, but now showing as J3 C3 D3 I3 U1 and only 2 vacant J seats. Will be interesting to see if the remainder get filled and if my shadow sticks? This looks to be a prime opportunity to offer some upgrade love for a few pax with a lighter flight loading.

On my flight J was full but lots of middle seats available in Y, so I recon it was one of those gift op-ups.

Well, my shadow has stuck and we still have 2 additional J seats. So either someone scored an op-up or simply got their points upgrade approved. Would love to know if there was indeed a lucky recipient?

same, a few Mel-Syd sectors recently with nothing. on most i've watched the movement on expert flyer leading in with the J seats filling up and movement around rows 4-6, whether these are CR upgrades or comp upgrades of P1's or CL's, I/we will never know...
