Qantas Courtesy Upgrade Love

Last week managed an earlier flight PER-MEL with only a discount economy fare. No charge. Best to ask in the lounge, not at the sales desk. In the lounge they have more discretion on changes.
I've also been upgraded to J in the lounge when I asked for an earlier flight. There may have been some flight cancellations going on.

If only I was planning to travel solo, and on a flight with a better cabin available than the one I've already booked! I guess I shouldn't be complaining. Last Y flight anywhere was in January 2020 🤓

That happened with us in EK. (Back when they liked Qantas members) But on same PNR. MrP was SG and I was silver. We were in J. He got an upgrade to F at check in. I didn't. I was simply excited for him and told him to grab all the goodies. He asked if he could change it so I had it. She couldn't change it. As I went to board my boarding pass triggered an alarm. They ended up upgrading me too.

Hoping this Qantas love sticks in 3 weeks to Hawaii. Two P travelling in Y+ and points upgrade to J. Currently showing J9. Happy to use points.

MrP got a free upgrade Adelaide to Melbourne a few weeks ago. Pleased with that as it was a dinner one and didn't have to scrounge for food on arrival. I had made him a peanut butter sandwhich which he kept and offered it to an exec the next day who hadn't had a chance to get breakfast. 😂
There's always hope, but I think you'd only get it on points in this scenario, as it seems it will only be for solo pax travellers, and not from Y+ (W)... only from Y>J or J>F

Wonder if I'll get it tomorrow syd to mel. Theres more than J9 open and i only see 10 Shadow blocks in economy so maybe. Would be nice to have a lie flat nap for 45mins.

Hasn't happened for me. Have ticked over T-6h. Very lightly loaded flight. Still J9 with 16 business seats showing free in EF.

There were 4 of us with shadows in Y, now there are 3. So maybe 1 person got lucky. Still a while until departure so we'll see what happens.

Last time they offered this i had multiple solo Y flights and no joy.

This time round i only have 1 Y flight in the period so won't be holding my breath as I can't remember seeing an empty J seat on a 737 flight from syd-mel ever.

Ha i suddenly see the whole plane completely full. Which 737 service got cancelled into this one i wonder.

I agree. Four domestic flights last week and all full in J. But a SYD-WLG flight in a 737 lightly loaded with spare J seats. No upgrade and had a row to myself.

I’m in the air now. No upgrade love even though there are empty J seats. Maybe it hasn’t begun yet, or there are other criteria.

That said it’s all good. Nobody in front or behind or to the side. Makes for a very comfortable flight.

I sometimes prefer Y with a spare seat than a full J. I can spread out and place the meal tray on the neighbouring tray and carry on using my laptop. Also handy for placing drinks but there is that in J anyway. But depends on the style of J seats.
