I know there are a few people out there who love to bag Qantas,

but we had a great experience with them on the weekend,

we are booked to fly honolulu to Sydney in economy , we had our upgrade to business on points come through 24 hours out.

However when we got to the airport there had been a change of aircraft and we were bumped back to economy, we had our points refunded and were offered the choice of 2000 use travel credit or 1400 in usd cash,

they even made sure we had 2 seats each, at the front of economy,

to me after flying in the US with American , Qantas have a far better product, is that kind of compensation the norm, bearing in mind we never paid for the business seats and were refunded the upgrade points as well.

That's a pretty decent offer. Much better than the experience posted here last year when passengers in paid business got bumped.

Brilliant effort by QF, hopefully its a sign of better treatment with downgrades.

Irrespective of how you acquired Business seats, I reckon this is good service recovery and a great compensation offer from Qantas. Well done!

Sorry, just out of interest, is that $1400 for two people, or each (or for more people)? Given points were also refunded, this is a superb outcome!

Mahalo. Probably a lot to do with HNL base as much as anything. Can't see that happening at LAX. Very generous!

it was 1000 each travel credit and 700 each cash both in USD.

given that the economy tickets were 700 each through to Brisbane, and they also had to put us up for the night in Sydney and gave us 100 to spend at the bar, i think it was a great outcome for us

Very good outcome. Somewhat above what I would expect in that situation, but I wouldn't be complaining with that offer!!

This sounds too good not to be a QF mistake. Perhaps the comp was supposed to go to paid J pax but went to all ?
Great outcome for OP, I hope you reward QF with future loyalty.

That must've been the day when VH-QPD did QF3/4 which is an A333 with the new J suites in the 28/269 config.

Usually it's the A332 which is the 36/199 config with the Mark1 Skybeds so if the flight was full in J you'd end up being oversold by 8 seats worst case scenario.

Haven't heard of that type of a/c swap on that route prior to this.
