Qantas Club v Silver Member

Hello there,
Just wondering what members think is it worth chasing to be a silver member, if you are a Qantas Club member?
What is the major difference?
I'm a QC member for another 2 years or so as I was Gold and now dropped to silver but debating is it worth keeping silver, as I am a QC member (Self funded).

That is for international only.

I guess the answer depends on where the OP mainly flies to.

Once upon a time, QP was better than it is now. But based on your above comment - it's probably sufficient - depending on who your international travel is with?

if you were embarking on RTW travel on multiple OW airlines, the J checkin for QF PS is nice but just speeds up your transit to 'no lounge' wilderness - unless flying QF or AA. Long long gone are the QP reciprocal lounges. Advance seat selection can be surprisingly good on some OW airlines.

With one trip a year I'd say no.

That being said, when I first came to AFF I was discouraged from chasing Silver and have seen many members be discouraged over the years. I look at it as a stepping stone to the next level, if you never get a taste for what Silver gives you, small as it is, you never want to go further. As you are heading in the other direction though, perhaps it's not necessary.

Silver means you are also accumulating toward LTG.
"ANY" status is good IMHO, watch for double SC promos etc
Silver earn rate is higher than bronze. It all adds up.

The huge advantage of silver - and I don't know if this is different from Qantas Club - is the call-back option when phoning QF. Don't have to wait in the queue for up to an hour to speak to someone.

Other advantages are free seat selection and business check-in (but those are in common with QC).

For international travel - silver gets free bag on AA (saves USD25 per flight), free advance seat selection on BA at 7 days, and free exit rows on CX. The latter saves a fortune compared to QF if you were flying all the way to Europe for example.

QPNB don't get free seat selection if it isn't included as part of the fare internationally, where as PS does.

i recently had a couple of itineraries, one for me (silver) one for family member (bronze). Between schedule changes and a couple of flight cancellations each itinerary required a half dozen or so calls to QF. Bronze I was on the phone for hours waiting, I had one offer of a call back. silver I got the offer of a call back every time. I'm thankful for silver!

PS (Oneworld Ruby) gets you business class check in and varying seat selection benefits on other oneworld airlines

I also found marginally better award seat availability and better phone queue times.

PS I found was more so the OW benefits when travelling other airlines as has been said above. Your domestic experience at the airport and largely on the aircraft will be the same as a QP member (I was a PS and mixture of self funded and business funded QP member for a few years before Gold became achievable)

I would never discourage someone from trying to get to PS it's a bit of fun, totally a stepping stone and contributes to your lifetime status. I probably wouldn't invest a lot into it though as the returns aren't huge
