I am taking the family to darwin in December for a much needed holiday. Does anyone know how strict hey Qantas Club is with guests? My children are aged 16 and 18. I phoned them and they said my wife would have to be a member or I would have to buy an annual guest pass. I don't really like forking out the $200 as my wife doesn't travel often and usually it is just the two of us so guest entry is not an issue. Any thoughts?

ozrick33,

Welcome to the forum. If you look under "Qantas Frequent Flyer/Qantas Club Guest Dilemma" you'll see there is a current thread running that will probably answer you question.

Good luck. It should work for you. :D :D :D :D

you could find another couple of gold/platinum members going in and ask if they would let the other members of your party be their guests.

Good news. I read that thread and rang the Qantas Club in Cairns (we are going via Cairns), the club in Sydney and Darwin and they have all made diary entries that they assure me will guarantee entry for us all. Great result!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Good to hear your planning has paid off. My experience is that if you follow your approach, they are willing to help. If you just turn up, it depends on the person you get at the door. If you are obviously a family group and they are not busy it is much easier.

You don't have much luck in affiliated lounges. Recently I tried to get 3 colleagues into the LanChile lounge in Santiago. They flatly refused and stated that I could only admit one guest and if the others wanted to get in they had to fork out USD15. Not only that but they sent us to a different lounge where we could eat chips, peanuts and strange sweet biscuits and drink their dreadful beer.

Last weekend I took a family friend and her three children (aged 13, 11 and 9) to the airport for their flight home to Melbourne. No problem at all taking all 4 in a my guests to the BNE domestic Qantas club lounge just by showing my QF Platinum card upon entry. The lounge was not busy at 6am on Sunday  . The appreciated the breakfast and nice facilities before boarding their flight home. I enjoyed a few Cappuccinos with them 8) .

Being a domestic lounge I am permitted two guests, and as my experience has always been, children are admitted as well. I suppose the agent probably thought the friend and her kids were my wife and children  .

But OneWorld Emerald status does only entitle you to a single guest at international lounges.

Indeed it does, however I have been successful in getting extras in if asking nicely at QF F lounges.

At partner lounges, things can be different; AA lounges have allowed me extras ( wow whoop de doo given the quality ) whilst BA have reasonably maintained the 1 guest limit

At a QF lounge, my experience is be nice and ask politely then they can be most accommodating if they can

Yes, indeedy. AA will permit an entire family group to enter the lounge. So the NM clan and Mrs NM's parents were all permitted access to several AA lounges when we were all travelling together.

But BA play by the rules. Just sometimes they need to be reminded what the rules are  .

The rule is one guest for lounges where access is provided under the OneWorld Sapphire or Emerald benefits. And 1 guest for Qantas international lounges where access is granted per Qantas Club membership (both paid and complementary due to Gold and Platinum FF status).

The only times when a QF members is permitted more than one guest are:
  • Platinum FF member at QF Australian Domestic Qantas Club lounges permitted 2 guests
  • Qantas Club member who has purchased an annual guest pass may take one additional guest into a Qantas operated lounge (including join BA/QF lounges such as SIN and HKG, and joint AA/QF lounge at LAX T4), but not at partner lounges or other OneWorld lounges.
