What, 32pgs of qualitative feedback on the topic isn't enough for you

I bet it would cost QF many thousands of dollars to commission a 32 page market research report on the subject,maybe admin should send QF an invoice.:mrgreen:

Obviously I was having a laugh with the comment about sending an invoice but there is in my mind no doubt that internet forums are a potential goldmine for media savvy businesses,I mean if QF or any other airline did seriously want to do some research about this sort of subject (or any marketing subject really) why would they spend thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars doing traditional market research when they could get the answers they want just by joining AFF and asking seemingly innocuous questions .
Perhaps in the future this could become a source of income for internet forums on just about any subject.
Social networking sites like twitter and facebook are invaluable for getting a message out quickly but when it comes to getting answers to marketing questions then maybe forums like AFF are the market research tools of the future.

By the way in case my previous post is misunderstood I am in no way supporting organisations that post spam on forums lik AFF,I have been a moderator on another site and I know what it's like to have to delete spam threads.
I was just suggesting that internet forums could be a legitimate tool for genuine market research.

Seriously, you're going to try and go all English professor here - it's on like Donkey Kong as they would say in the classics

I would contend that gaining value from the information here would require significant interpretative techniques, as it is not based on quantifiable data thus necessitating evaluation of its subjective properties to form a sound hypothesis - thus using qualitative.

Since this thread has over 300 posts, many of which are repetitive, Quantitative is the word I would use.

Now, if one were to distil the thread, applying thorough analysis to the posts and summarising accurately, then you may get a Qualitative analysis.

Of course such summary must be performed without bias, prejudgement or anything else that could influence the results otherwise the word used to describe it would not be Qualitative; effluent might be better applied in such a case.

As for the comment about banning fat people from the QC - words fail me. Would you think that comment was ok if you replaced "fat people" with "black people" or "Jews"?

If not, why do you think it's ok to be bigoted against fat people?

I completely understand the argument that if you can't fit in a seat, you have to buy two - but banning someone because of their body shape from being in the club? that's just bigotry and hate of a particularly nasty kind.

Rebekkap - my comment regarding allowing fat people into the lounge was actually made 'tongue in cheek' ( but my comment re fat people on the aircraft was indeed a complaint). I think people can wear what the hell they like in the Q lounge, it has no impact on me. The only time I would have a real complaint would be about people's behaviour not their clothing and their are plenty of badly behaved and loud suit-wearers for sure.

I am neither a racist, nor a bigot when it comes, to colour, race or creed.

However, fat people are more often than not, that way because their input of calories exceeds their output and when it impacts on me in the aircraft I feel a certain amount of discomfort at being squeezed in my seat by their extra body fat.

I hope this clears up the matter for you.

Some people must be reading this thead - on Saturday in the ADL & SIN QP (must have been on QF 81, same as me) there was a guy in his mid-20's neatly dressed;

casual business style trousers (with belt and shirt tucked in)
casual business style shirt,
tie,
trilby style hat, and;
thongs! :shock:

And in contrast, on the SIN to BOM flight, Alex Perry was up the front in black jeans, denim jacket & pointy toe cowboy points (complete with obligatory dark sunnies)!

I don't think bigotry in any form is acceptable.

I do agree with your point on people needing to fit into their seat, otherwise they should buy another seat, but making bigoted remarks about fat people - who you can't tell by looking at them whether they are just eating too much or whether they have serious medical issues - is just as unacceptable as making bigoted remarks about any other group of people.

Rebekkap, I suppose I don't think that I am bigotted against 'fat' people because I have plenty of fat friends whom I love dearly (but, on a point of interest, not one of these people is fat due to a medical condition, they all over-indulge in wine and food and don't do any exercise and they happily admit to this). Am I glad I don't have to sit next to them on a plane, yes I am.

As I have already said my comment was tongue-in-cheek and was a follow on from all the other comments about whether fat people should 'tuck-in' or leave out their shirts (in the Q club) - I didn't introduce the topic on fat people.

I willingly apologise to all fat people who may have been offended by my remark.
