Qantas changing flights

I have a reward flight booked with Qantas in late July. Return from Perth to MEL.
I received an email from QF changing my return flight to PER. It was changed from a 18:55 departure to 19:30.
Any comments on how Qantas can change my flight like this? If I wanted to change my flight times I am sure that I would get slugged points or cash to make a change, however Qantas seem to have licence to make changes at their own whim. Should I seek an explanation from the airline?
 
Qantas can make pretty much any set of changes they want (even downgrading a pax from First to Economy) if they really want.

It's all written in the terms and conditions of your flight.

Does the change Qantas made affect you? Ring them up and request a change to an earlier flight. They are normally happy enough to change any ticket for free if they have made changes which have affected your travel plans.
 
If you are a silver, gold or platinum frequent flyer, you can make date and time changes for FF award bookings without penalty.
 
By the times you are quoting, it sounds to me that you are QF481 and they have just moved the scheduled time of this service rather than changed your flights. There would be some operational reason for this, and you might find out by asking them.

At the end of the day it is a 35 minute changes, and you need to bear in mind that flights to Perth from Melbourne are hours apart, so to change to an earlier flight will be a few hours earlier.

I think you should be pleased that the informed you of a planned schedule change that results in a 35 minute time difference. I assume you are on QF481 on 30th July as that is showing a once-off schdule change.
 
I would be pleased if I had received an email for all my flight schedule changes. The number of times I've found out a material (read hours different) change only by checking for myself or in some unfortunate cases at the airport is staggering. Now I make it a habit to double and triple check the schedules on the day of departure or a few days prior, just in case.

I have a SYD-SFO flight in J in a few weeks and QF changed the departure time by an hour later meaning that I will arrive in SFO an hour later. QF did not notify me about the change and I only realised what had occurred when I looked at my 'my bookings' on the QF website, which is something I do regularly now. You then have to acknowledge the change on that page. Luckily, to ensure I did not have a problem with this type of change I arranged my flight out of SFO four hours after the scheduled arrival time as the ongoing flight is not connected with QF. A change like this could effect pax with tight connection times, but as other say QF can do what they like, when they like.

A one-off change... I wonder if Geoff or Marge arranged that to suit their schedule that day. :eek:

QF only informed me once of a change in a ADL-PER by half an hour.

I had to find out through 'my bookings' when QF81 changed schedules from Mon, Wed, Fri to Tue, Thu, Sat and they changed my flight from Mon to Tue but left the connecting flights on Mon. I finally cancelled and re-routed the whole booking.

I now check 'my bookings' regularly for any nasty surprises.
