Qantas Catering Major Improvements Ahead

Hi our Friend was in economy and meal showed as Gluten Free. The main point is that QF talk about a meal or food or snack as part of the ticket, they offer special meals for those with dietary requirements yet fail to offer anything suitable on snack services. Our friend feels she was not given what she was expecting and that QF failed.
QF recently confirmed with me that 'special meals' would not be provided as snacks in either domestic class. So the option is eat what is offered or go hungry.
To be honest, this is not just a QF issue. I've had ongoing issues with every major airline when it comes to getting a vegan meal (VGML) - from economy, to business, to first. Half the time I get given an ovo-lacto vegetarian meal (VOML), and the crew genuinely don't seem to grasp the difference between the two. They're not much different to the general population really, I always seem to have to explain what vegan means - as opposed to vegetarian. And no, I can't just eat the VOML just this once. But even if the crew don't know the difference, the catering company should! It baffles me how I end up with Kit Kats, Godiva chocolates, scrambled eggs, salmon, butter, full cream yogurt, croissants...
"Can't you just eat around the bacon"?

I recall the AA VGML in F that had a ham and cheese omelette. "Can't you just pick the ham out?"

I flew QF in J domestically 2 weeks ago - it was a non - traditional meal time service and I did get a Vegan meal. The flight out was traditional meal time and Vegan meal not a problem also.

In economy I know that no vegan meals outside of traditional meal times but they will give you an apple in economy on request.

If anything, I have issues with VA in J domestically - no vegan meal irrespective of time of day and length of flight.

I hope the catering improves.

Just as well I stuffed myself in the lounge before the flight the other day but I was still starving when we finally got to SYD from BKK via CNS.

The meal size is inadequate for dinner. Or even lunch. And then a muffin and a few tablespoons of yoghurt for breakfast isn't much better either.
