Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Yeah I've asked for more on Virgin and they said they didn't have. I bet they did for *sale" down the back. Hate it when you pay a fortune for a ticket and they don't even acknowledge it really even with crackers and cheese!! 🫣
On VA though isn’t it a ‘set’, the biscuits and cheese come together in the same snack pack (mainland cheese). I don’t know if VA has separate packets of crackers only… there’d be little or no demand.

But I've occasionally been on airlines where they didn't have more biscuits to distribute.

They weren't loaded onto the plane, so how does one successfully ask for more?
Quite a few airlines have the entire cheese plate being fixed. The biscuits are already portioned out, not in a container.

Those airlines where biscuits would be on a trolley where every cheese plate is portioned out on demand would be the exception. I don't know how many biscuits they would budget per person, because it may not be nice to run out of biscuits if more people than usual take cheese when the last passenger gets served.

You could "break" portions to get more biscuits, e.g. raid other (perhaps not taken) cheese plates and take the biscuits off it, or in the case of VA, rip open some Mainland cheese packets and take the biscuits (and maybe discard the cheese). How desirable this is as an action is questionable, especially the VA case (viz. sales breakage).

that would be ridiculous and unreasonable! 😳

TBH it’s getting a bit silly if people can ‘only’ eat cheese with crackers, and refuse to substitute for bread - or eat just plain - if crackers happen to run out.

I would quite happily take the cheese and cracker pack. Anything to help.😄..Now soft cheese with bread sticks....different dimension can't remember at the moment the European airline I got that on...that was rather yummy .

Irrespective of airline, I have always found 'cheese plates' to have too few biscuits accompanying.

At home, I place (say) a small amount of cheddar on each biscuit ('cracker') and don't eat the cheese without same, but airline caterers and airline menu designers seem incapable of recognising this.

Is it because airlines want to minimise catering cost? Dry (and many sweet) biscuits are rarely expensive.

If Woolworths or IGA can sell a 225 gram pack of Savoy/Jatz on special (at a retail level) for as low as $2.50 or occasionally less, and a 100 gram pack of specialist water crackers for a good price, the cost to caterers (who pay wholesale, high volume rates) of an extra 10 biscuits would be lucky to be A$0.30.

Or is it the 2026 version of the infamous 1980s USA 'eliminate one olive from a salad to save US$XX,000 annually?'
Maybe i will DIY crackers on my next flight!

I must be at the other end of the spectrum. I prefer my cheese with minimal crackers, sometimes with none, so the amount of crackers has never bothered me.

QF532 Sydney to Brisbane. Lamb pie or cheese plate. Both dishes were fine. Service was attentive and professional.

QF1830 - Brisbane to Mackay. Options were ‘hot chicken dish’ or charcuterie plate ‘with cucumber and stuff and some sort of meat’. Hot chicken dish turned out to be whatever was put in front of you - either a chicken pie, a more traditional chicken, potato and veg or, in my case, chicken pasta. Wine was whatever you were given and it was definitely needed to get through the flight!

Pasta was pretty reasonable for chicken pasta, charcuterie was the highlight. Service was interesting.

I have a feeling only the lavosh was the default, and the loose crackers were requested. Either that, or the FAs have caught on that the standard allocation is grossly inadequate…
Nope, crackers weren’t requested (but I’m not complaining). There was more crackers and lavosh than were needed so some of it went back, but I’d prefer that than not enough.

It was a weird flight - seemed to be lots of assorted leftover meals. Mostly chicken.

Memo to airlines, a pack of crackers costs $1-1.50, consider throwing in a couple of packs next flight, cost vs benefit ratio pretty high!

I think you should also kick in that most crackers have a very long shelf life and don't require cold storage, hence reducing the risk of breakage.

Sounds like it. Reading your report on all those chicken options caused me to nearly spit my food (neither a cheese platter nor poultry) out all over my phone screen with laughter!

Could that be some sort of record?

I wish there’d be that level of variety with red meat or fish…

Goat's cheese and leek tart + cherry danish. Not bad, the fresh herbs on the tart made the dish.

A bit of a comedy of errors - when the breakfast orders were being taken, I asked if I could pre-order the vegetarian main for lunch as they'd run out of the veg option on my flight to Tokyo. The cabin crew member assured me they would put one aside for me. Later a different crew member came around to take lunch orders and didn't seem to have a record of my previous request, so I re-ordered the veg option. Later still, as the mains were being served, a third crew member regretted to inform me there had been a mistake and only 2 vegetarian mains had been loaded instead of 3 so they had run out. They were extremely apologetic and offered me this option instead, some sort of creamy thyme gnocchi with beans and mushroom, as well as frequent flyer points as compensation for the mistake.
