At least your menu has a dish without eggs.
For those of us who don’t eat eggs it’s hard getting something to eat on QF.
As a rule I eat in the lounge and skip breakfast on QF flights

Another non-egg-eater here. For me an allergy is the problem. The assumption seems to be everyone eats eggs, but even if you accept the meal and leave the egg they seem to have reduced the number and types of accompaniments. I do not consider muesli a meal. What happened to the good old sausage, even in the lounge - looking at you SYD domestic and AKL ? Eating in the lounge is the only way to get an edible meal. Ordering a "Special" meal is not an alternative as the choices are not appealing AND it often does not get loaded anyway.

Yep- same with my seafood allergy in certain parts of Asia (or supposedly “classy cuisine” pretty much anywhere) or I also I got friends who can’t eat mushrooms or tomatoes, they are in a similar situation. So I feel for you!

Perhaps I have an entirely new and undiscovered future career ahead of me. I just need to get drunk and start pitching my catering ideas to the airline industry. My sober self can then just write up some QF-style explanations.

5 stars to the customer care team though. I wrote up a complaint in flight (with a photo of the meal) and had a response 16 mins later and 10,000 points as a ‘gesture of good will’.

Let this be the new normal until they get it. I did the same thing last on the ridiculous shelf-stable picnic they try to pass off out of Samoa/Palau/Tonga.

10,000 points are worth $50 cash even at their worst redemption rates. It'd have been cheaper in those cases to provide a decent service. If enough people start pushing back, perhaps they'll assess that to be true across the board.

drunken alter-ego cooks up at 1am

OT: You are better person that I am - when there are words like "drunken", "cook", 1 am" - I'm thinking Falafel Kebabs with extra garlic and chilli sauce, side of chips and Jalapenos - not dumplings

After a bit of push I received 5,000 points for failing to load a special meal. Next time I will proactively ask for 10.

I don’t usually post on here anymore but I hadn’t seen anyone else mention this. Other option was an egg white omelette. But my option was described to me as a dome. No further explanation. After a bit of pushing it was reveled it was filled with goats cheese. To be honest it tasted very nice, like the Brazilian cheese balls that you find in the freezer section at Woolies but stuffed with goats cheese. It just needed to be explained better although the CSM seemed just as confused by it as me. Also no tea/coffee cups loaded which threw the crew off trying to look for them. The custard tart was also delicious.

I first had and posted this in January (from memory) and it seemed to be pretty regular. Obviously is back. I enjoyed it then as a lighter option and would have again.

QF156 AKL-MEL

Tried to beat the system by grabbing 1A, thinking I have to be in with a chance for both meal choices. Nope. A cabin full of Plats and a crew who went to every.single.one.of.them. and asked for their preference. They also got the PlatChat where the rest of us cabin fillers got nuthin.

I got the last lamb dish which was fortuitous.

It was a decent quality, moist and tender-ish. Spuds were good.


The side of potato and salmon was a miss - bland bland spuds and a small slice of salmon.

Cheese was pretty cheap - compared to the Lavosh served MEL-AKL, 2 crackers and a square of cheese is OK but not great.

Kapiti ice cream is always a winner, especially when you get a second cup.

Shiraz was OK but not to my recently aquired $85/bottle experience

Spotting 'Dessert and Fortified wine' on the menu I enquired of the crew, who produced a Morris Muscat. Was very good and encouraging me to venture from my Penfolds staple.


My +1 made a valid comment - why are they pairing a meat meal of lamb with a fairly ordinary pasta option? Stands to reason most people would go the meat option.

QF1297 MEL-HBA (20:05>21:25)
After a day spent eating and drinking from Auckland to Melbourne, food wasn't really on the radar.
Options were a chicken and mushroom pie with mashed potato or a chesse plate.

I took the cheese plate. which was actually good. The blue was very strong but the cheddar/hard cheese was starting to crust at the edges.

A pack of lavosh more than coped with the amount of cheese.

Grapes were still firm but the nuts were stale.
The dark chocolate went well.

The Shiraz was good but I was past wine appreciation hour by this time.
