Wow - that dish with the fritters does not look appealing at all. Aptly described @vhojm

Exceptional flight with CSM Darren and crew. The crew were short staffed but you would not have known. Special shout out to Chloe who was pulled from Y to work the J cabin -- this was her first time working in J and she was outstanding! Certainly one of the best Qantas flights I have had to date.

I went with the Japanese set menu - all delicious and beautifully presented. Grossett 2025 Riesling on offer very drainkable.

2nd meal prior to arrival was hands down one of the best meals I have had on a plane, alebit in J or F. Vegetaian Thai Green Curry - restaurant quality. IMG_5528.jpeg

Overall, this QF79 flight was one of my best in terms of serivce and food quality!

On QF79 again next week, very happy the menu has changed compare to last week. This looks much better.

That looks great, seems like somewhat improved since my last trip

SYD-MEL 11:05 am departure, choice of cheese and onion quiche with poached pear, beetroot relish and Neil's weeds or omelette with baked beans and roasted tomato.

Easter hcb chocolates instead of usual koko blaack bar and bacon and cheese scroll delivered later.

A330-200 with lots of staff travelers but they did serve non-staff first and did come through with tea and coffee also .

MEL-SYD 10am scheduled depature so a snack flight (noting ww didnt take off until 10:45)

Choice of scrambled egg filled tortilla or banana brrad with maple cream cheese.

Id had some poached eggs with corn salsa, chilli oil and bacon(skipped thw sour dough) in the J lounge so went for the banana bread which was ok but if i hadnt had some protein in the lounge i would have been quite hungry.

Came with eatee hcb chocolates, blueberry muffin (so more carbs) and the usual unappealing muesli bar.

As I’m flying on a public holiday I selected an earlier 330 service SYD-BNE and had the choice of fritters above which were referenced as corn beef hash but chose the caramelised onion tart which is the unanimous winner here. Did seem some hash leftovers.

Some recent meals I’ve quite enjoyed below on a dinner service OOL SYD and refreshment BNE SYD

QF153 MEL-AKL 8/4 VH-VZK 9:25am departure (left 35 minutes late)

Service was done starting at 3D, then 2AC for no apparent reason as the people behind me had no status. Very odd and maybe allergies but not sure.

No menus on this flight but options prawn fettuccine or batik chicken curry. Had the fettuccine which was fine but the prawns were tasty. Wouldn’t normally have ordered this but couldn’t confront the curry at 10:30. Everything else the same as last weeks flight on QF155

QF158 AKL-MEL 8/4 VH-XZI 20:45 departure

Food tasted better than it looked, crew very good, ran out of the beef after the first 8 people all ordered it lol.

Bus gate in Auckland was sad and expected bus gate in Melbourne is a first for me.

Fun day of flying, looking forward to a lie flat bed to Tokyo tomorrow.

They have to do non-seafood starters. Not acceptable only offering a seafood option for any course.

CSM Huong was very good and went around to my mum to thank her for all her flying as a P1 and then went around to platinums too.

We had Nanako looking after our side and she was probably the best Qantas FA I have had in years. Proactively filling drinks, cleaning all rubbish, lovely to talk to and seemed happy to be there. A great start to the trip.

Chose the mushroom soup and the beef having had the Japanese menu 2 weeks ago. Soup was tasty and whilst overcooked the beef had a really good flavour and was still tender. Wife had th pasta but only two were loaded which seemed a bit strange. Mum had the Japanese menu which was posted above.

2nd meal had the curry which was excellent.

smoked salmon as a starter has been a feature of various airlines J class for an eternity. It's a cop out!
For a while, also on the eternity list around the world was Parma ham and rockmelon... assuming of course they actually got real Parma ham. I can remember BA Club World ages ago: starters were either ham and melon, or roasted vegetables and boccocini.

For a lot of airlines on short-ish sectors (i.e. not long haul, or even then!), a choice of one starter is remarkably common. So you're going to disappoint people for sure.

Of course, the comedy here is that we lost a side salad (mere dressed leaves) and gained a starter.
