Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Gin is my go to to be honest, but I'm hoping to give the affogato a bit of a kick if possible and I don't think vodka, gin or scotch would go well!
Whiskey not at all uncommon with coffee (nor vodka for that matter). If you look upthread you'll see I added some single malt to my affogato (admittedly in F) - no problem at all.:)

Love the look of that Greek-ish salad there on the side. Flying the same route today and hoping they might still have the same.

But in any case, still not happy about the Domestification of trans Tasman service now. Flew over here on LATAM Business and got a full steak with veggies and potato, accompanied by a ham and mozzarella cheese starter and (rather tasty) fresh fruit or chocolate mousse as desert. Was way above what Qantas would ever offer on this route these days:

That catering has improved in many years gone by! Last time I flew LA (a very long time ago, well before LA left oneworld), the Trans-Tasman service was a sandwich and fruit plate going to New Zealand; standard breakfast service going back to Australia.
I had to salad and it was actually delicious, probably one of the best domestic J meals I've had. I don't know why but I think the chicken and the spring onion and sauce just went together really well. Also went well with the white wine.
I might be getting softer as I'm older or favouring different things due to my health condition, but Qantas' salads (not the side salad) are usually pretty tasty. I struggle to name a salad main course that I've had in QF J that I can deem as less than satisfactory; they don't need too much dressing, either. Plus, since most people probably swerve the salad anyway (and most would revile at the thought of quinoa), you're probably going to get what you want if that's your choice.

Typically Frangelico, a hazelnut liqueur

Some of the other salads can be a bit hit and miss (particularly the Halloumi and to an extent the lamb ones that look like something out of woolies) but overall I rate them highly.

It can be a nice change from the heavier hot dishes and because I often have to fly multiple domestic legs in a day I'm worried if I have the hot meal X 3 they'll have to roll me off at my final destination!

Yep- it used to be just a heated sandwich on the way over to Auckland, I do too remember that well. Clear improvement now with two hot choices (the steak I had and a vegetarian pasta option). Also now have proper French champagne (was a rather unknown brand which I don’t remember the name of, sorry. But it was proper Champagne champagne and quite tasty too) and we had the new 787 config with staggered seats- very similar to Qantas J class, actually in 1-2-1 configuration. Huge improvement over the 2-2-2 in the old config and really nicely done finishes and decor. We really liked both the food, drinks and seats. Easy to do the whole treck to SCL in this setting.

A couple of somewhat disappointing (meal-wise) flights this week.

CBR-MEL 16:35 QF Link 717 service.
Several announcements of a quick and turbulent flight out of a stormy Canberra and into a similar Melbourne, which didn't bode well. Sure enough when the seatbelt sign came off J service for a half-empty cabin was very rushed. Shepherds pie the only option. No pic as I and many others have posted it many times all year- but this one was actually OK. Retained its shape and had several big pieces of meat. Service from Elisha, Mel and Nadine was excellent - with multiple offerings of top-ups once they realised ATC had slowed us down so the flight needn't have been quite so rushed. My shadow held again - an OK flight.

MEL-HBA 19:30 737 service.
As usual flight was delayed. Priority boarding well enforced. My shadow taken at the last minute by an employee, but flight was absolutely full so no surprise.

Crew was very good (didn't catch names) but the meal choices for a dinner flight were very poor. Shepherds pie again (what a shock); chicken soup; or a terrine plate. I had eaten in the lounge so was OK, but anyone expecting a proper meal at 19:30 would have been disappointed with such woeful offerings.

Opted for the terrine plate. Needed double the cheese and terrine, but what was there, combined with the cornichons and paste, was very tasty. Service through to descent was also good. So another OK flight.

By way of reference, Y pax offered a hot pastry as well as free wine on this flight.

QF827 DRW-BNE redeye (again)

Flew the red-eye from Darwin to Brisbane again but on a fuller flight. Unsurprisingly the only menu option available was the chicken and leek pie so was expecting a repeat of my experience at post #5810 from 2 days ago.

The CSM came through with the goods and offered me a Kung Pao chicken which was meant to be a crew meal but wasn't wanted. Very sympathetic about how there's only ever one option on this route and said their feedback on that is not being heard.

Kung Pao chicken was quite good, had a decent amount of flavour and was a very welcome change from the chicken pie.

how do I hyperlink to this?)

Apologies for a quick O/T.

Go to here on the post you want to link to

and copy the link to clipboard.

Then you can either paste that raw link into your post OR you can highlight the text in your new post where you want to embed the link, by clicking on

then paste the link into the address area

then 'insert'.

While we are here, to embed pics into posts, rather than have them appear as an 'attachment', once you have 'attached files', click on 'insert' on the image at the bottom

then it will ask if you want to insert a thumbnail or full image.

Most people choose full image and it will go in there you positioned the cursor.

Again, apols for O/T.

This morning’s meals.

QF132 CHC-MEL. I had the cheese omelette. It was quite nice

After a couple of hours in the MEL J lounge we were off to BNE on QF612. Hilarious CSM who managed to get more than half of us to have a glass or two of Lois. My all day dining choice was a bowl of wild rice with sweet potato, green beans, edamame beans, half a boiled egg and nuts of some kind. It was delicious

Great crew on both flights

I constantly see the hot meals covered by the tea towel moving from the front to the back of the plane. Does anyone know if domestically crew are specifically seperately catered an allocation of business meals or are they just allowed to have any leftovers?
Sitting in 2C today And the only non vegetarian option (Chicken) was already fully allocated (there were two other options) before they reached me and my seat mate. When i headed down the back to use the bathroom later in the flight i could see staff eating this exact same meal that was not available. Have anyone else ever experienced this?

I'm pretty sure that's separate catering for crew.
