Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Breakfast on today's QF840 SYD-DRW. Also lots of sugary snacks passed around in addition to the giant chocolate 🍫

The giant chocolate - this is now a common thing for the holiday season? This was loaded to the serving cart on my recent CBR-MEL. But it was never given to pax. Only one pax in 1F received it because he didn’t want to partake in the meal service … I wish they had given it to pax on the service I was on … the chocolate looked nice 🫣

No PDB or water. Offered a light dinner, single option of the pork fillet. A variety of snacks (pretzels, cookies, hummus snack box) as alternatives.

Wasn’t looking forward to the dish given comments on this thread, but we both enjoyed it. Tasty and tender pork, but was a bit fatty toward the end. Mash and veg standard, but was impressed that some of the sugar peas retained their snap though!

Pinot gris and a Cab Sav. Both were nice and with proactive top ups from the good crew. All up pretty good for a short flight.

Had the pork twice in the last 2 weeks and whilst it looks like prison slop it tasted good. One was a little fatty but they both tasted decent

Chicken salad starter was tasty and light
Barra for main was “fine” a bit lacking in overall flavour and was small

QF1950 (Alliance Airlines) - ADL-DRW
SDT: 0635 - FT 3:45
Adelaide airport was pretty quiet at 5am. Not deserted by any means though. Was quickly through security and into the QC. Nothing special tbh. Flight boarded 7 minutes early and was done before scheduled boarding time thanks to light loads. 20 in Y and 4 in J.

CSM Matthew was fantastic, felt more like a VA flight. Bottles of water were handed out along with a personal welcome and jackets offered to be hung. We took off before SDT and began the quick hop to Darwin.

After we reached cruise Matthew came around with drinks and biscuits.

This was then followed by meal orders being taken and plated in the galley. There were 3 options: Corn and Polenta fritters with mushrooms and sausages, leek frittata with tomato something or other and sausages or brookefarm wild berry granola. I opted for the frittata, the couples in 2D&F had the fritters and it looked pretty good and the JQ pilot in row 3 had the granola which looked fine, if a bit boring. The meals came with a raspberry and oat muffing, passion fruit yogurt and a chocolate Christmas pudding.

After this hot drinks were offered followed by chocolate and hazelnut biscuits and a chocolate Santa.

Finally as we approached landing we got a parting gift of the massive koko black bars. By this point I’d had enough sugar to make it to New Years so it went in my bag for later.

This flight was probably my best QF flight this year. Both the crew were attentive and on anything within seconds. Matthew was exception and spent a while chatting with me and those who were in the mood for a chat and left those who weren’t. Not often I say this but I really enjoyed it and was definitely happy with the wad of cash I blew on this flight.
 
Kung Pao Chicken w/fried rice on today's QF841 Christmas Day DRW to SYD. I haven't seen this on QF Domestic before (although I rarely fly lunchtime), but it's gotta be one of my favourite domestic meals to date.

Also got a block of Pavlova Chocolate, which the packaging claims to be an "Australian Treat" :rolleyes:🇳🇿

Sheppard's pie. Pretty tasty actually but oh wait, this is in whY! Honestly the difference between J and Y meals is minimal. Similar presentation. Plastic plate thingy instead. I guess that bit of bread is what you're paying for in J.

QF Link 717 service MEL - HBA, scheduled 19:30 flight (a bit delayed).

Same excellent crew as my previous flight, headed up by Kiya, and same wines and good service (including wine refill into a plastic cup due to early descent for possible turbulence).

Two meal choices. Cold chicken salad or a pasta and sauce with smoked pork pieces and chives. We both took the latter.

Very tasty dish, with surprising amount of pork and a decent smokiness. Parts of the pasta were dry but still edible.

Pax across the aisle had the salad which looked very bland but a decent serve.

Nice chocolates which are not the norm on these length flights. No PDB nor tea or coffee offered.

Hot food (boxed pizza minis I think) and wine was offered in Y for this flight so really not much difference for the J experience, but still was a pleasant flight with excellent service given the repeat crew.
 
For those that care to scan back through over 200 pages of posts in this thread, it is documented that prior to covid, Qantas offered an "international level of meal service" on domestic transcontinental flights. (Take a look back if you dare!)

What I want to do today though, is demonstrate how you can still get that level of service, by comparing two transcontinental flights, one is on an international flight's domestic sector, the other on a domestic only flight: both similar wide bodies, the only difference one was heading west from an international terminal and the other heading east from a domestic terminal!

Let's have a quick start in the F lounge (only because that was a bonus for slogging through immigration processing etc, as a domestic passenger).

Yum, yum, yum.... now we can get on our way to the aeroplane.

Once onboard, you are greeted with a menu, and offered a sparkling wine or water to drink prior to departure.

However, on a domestic sector, you are greeted with nothing, no menu and no pre-departure drinks on offer... just a bare table top.

On the international flight, you could also turn behind you and find a water bottle already stored for your inflight consumption, the same holder was empty on the domestic flight.

On both flights, once in the air, flight attendants moved through the cabin with a pre-meal drinks trolley.

I asked for the same drink on both flights and below is what was delivered on the international flight.

After enjoying my pre-meal drink, the tray tables were set by the crew.

On the international flight, a linen was placed over the table and items put down directly onto it.

Additional items were brought out separately on the international flight, including entree above, and main below.

There were 3 main meal choices on the domestic flight, service was front to back, and the tray delivered with requested item on it. On the international flight, meal orders were taken in order of FF status, but delivered front to back. The menu below details options.

For dessert, I was offered a Christmas ice cream as well as a dessert wine on the international flight.

Not food related but the other difference is one has noise cancelling headphones and the other doesn't.

And the international terminal departing flight had full bedding presented at the seat when boarding (pad, cover, pillow, etc), on the domestic terminal departing flight nothing, plus I heard someone nearby ask an FA for a pillow, and none was found. (Both day time flights.)
