Check this thing out tonight MEL-SYD

2nd worst airline meal I've ever eaten.

Also here is the kids J meal, wish I had it.

I had that meal in January and it was equally as atrocious then. Completely inedible. Who on earth thought that pickled artichoke halves were a good accompaniment to scraggy beef and mushrooms?

A few weeks back on MEL-OOL they served this weird "fried eggs, cheese and ham on English Muffin" thing. I took a pic but it seems to have disappeared from my phone :(

I tried it over the usual toasted sanga because I thought it might be interesting. I don't know that it translated too well to the aircraft cabin, but it was pretty big I must say and I was quite full. but I did feel a bit queasy for a bit afterwards lol.

I'd give it about a 6.5/10

Chicken salad with a lot of peanuts or laksa broth with vermicilli or cheese plate J SYD - ADL at 16.40.
Chose the chicken salad.
I choose the chicken salad.
Butter with brown bread.
Large chocolate eclaire also for all on tray.
Wine of course was available.

QF511 BNE/SYD 28/4

This was a snack flight - option was a turkey and red pepper sandwich (some type of fancy bread) or banana bread with natural yogurt and an apple & sultana compote. Very nice!!!

QF798 BNE-CNS 02MAY16

Choices were:

Poached eggs with bacon, tomato and spinach
Some sort of Bircher muesli

I went the hot breakfast:

Eggs were hard and like rubber. I should have thought poached eggs wouldn't work on a flight...

With a glass of orange juice with some (as tha FA called it) "Champagne":

QF649 CNS-BNE 02MAY16

First up, G+T with Brazil nuts & pretzels. Brazil nuts are the worst...

For the main, options were:

Roast beef and grilled mushroom toasted sandwich
Chicken and sweet corn soup
Some sort of potato salad

Wine options were a Shaw & Smith Sav Blanc and Punt Road Cab Sav.

The dessert was a passion fruit tart.

I actually quite liked the sandwich, however, if you are going to serve a toasted sandwich in J on the flight, maybe toasted sandwiches shouldn't be virtually the only option available in the QP/JLounge prior to the flight...

The Cab Sav was OK, but after one glass... I went back to the G+T.

Welcome to carb city:

That poached eggs thing seems to be systemwide at least this week. not a fan at all sadly.

I had a variation of this coming back from BNE! It was mushroom and artichoke pasta - no beef or broccoli.

Stodge would be the best way to describe it...

Also, there was no soup option - just the pasta and a chicken salad; I thought that was odd for a dinner flight.

QF548 SYD/BNE 29 April

Options were Barramundi, rice and wilted greens (IIRC) or salad. Wanted a filling dinner so fish was the only option. The "garnish" on top of the fish was filled with chili seeds that I didn't notice until they exploded in my mouth and made the first mouthful almost inedible as I needed a fire hydrant to put out the flames.

Scraped off the garnish and then the delicate barramundi flavour took centre stage. Lovely jus had formed at the bottom of the plate with just a hint of zing, soaked up nicely by the rice

It's a shame to see flights where the only Business meal offered is fish/seafood. I've had similar experience with Virgin and as you've mentioned it's dissatisfying to only end up with salad.

Is it just me or is the trans con flights food getting worse and worse every trip?

Going over to Brisbane last week it just utter cough some Mediterranean chicken cough, was just bloody awful and the Mrs had a Pulled Pork brioche burger, most rank tasting thing I've ever had on a plane it was bad enough infact that all of them were going back up the aisle after lunch with 90% of the 'burgers' still on the plate.

Coming back to Perth was no better, some mexican cough for breakfast that most people sent back. The best option was a croissant. So glad coming home was an upgrade. Pisses me off paying 2k and getting absolute cough served in comparison the boxed meals seem to be pretty damn good....might start asking for one of them instead lol!

QF need to work on their main plates for Lunch and Dinner and offer a couple of actual options as well rather than just having one 'big' meal.

I scored the chicken cough on MEL-PER last Monday. It was called Chicken Tangine and it was disgusting. The pulled pork brioche was unavailable. Very poor choices for a J meal considering the business lounge offering was hotdogs. I wanted to check out the main cabin meals but Mr Spud wouldn't let me ask...

I swear if I ever see Neil Perry in the flesh, I would rip him a new one.

Speak to the CSM next time you are on board and let them know that the meal was disappointing or rubbish, usually the good CSM's will record this straight away and send a report off to the catering areas.

I wonder how Catering and Neil actually get their feedback?
CSM sending pax comments?
The airline loads as many meals as there are passengers so an offering which is less popular gets taken by the last passenger as there is no other choice. Catering sees all meals taken so assume it must have been ok.
On the other hand untaken meals might just mean the passenger is not hungry rather than a problem with the dish
