CNS-SYD on Monday evening.

Pork (and maybe Lamb...?) meat balls with risoni. Probably one of the better QF J meals I've had recently. Still a bit below the standard VA are serving up.

Mmmm, that salad looks nice. But what is that flourescent orange thingy in the small bowl??!!

Now you're testing the memory, I think it was a cheese cake with an orange topping. Lindt chocolate also had an orange flavour, almost like a Jaffa.

Mrs SMJ reports that the salad was indeed tasty!!

QF491 SYD-MEL on 27/03/15
A supper flight.

There were 3 choices, a cheese box, salad and one other thing that I don't recall - musn't have been very inspiring. Came with cheesecake which was nice.

This was the cheese box:

Lamb salad with chickpeas and coughin mayonnaise.

(CSM informed us that this is a new meal)

Potato and leek soup

Third choice was a toasted sandwich with roast beef, tomato and garlic aioli (sorry, no picture).

Wines offered were;
  • Juniper Crossing Sauvignon Blanc
  • Amberley Secret Lane Cabernet Merlot

Mstr SMJ is joining us on this trip, child meal was macaroni and cheese with wilted spinach and sweet potato mash.

He was offered a glass of milk.

Nice Easter touch, the baby Lindt bunny on the child meal :)

by the look of the Lindt bunny probably cost more than the rest of the meal combined. I reckon the rest of the meal would have cost less than $1?

Mstr SMJ certainly enjoyed the bunny. It did look suspiciously like one of the chocolates he gave the crew at the start of the flight though.

Was a nice gesture for them to give it back to him with his meal, we certainly wouldn't have expected them to.

Snack SYD-MEL late March. Choice of soup, salad or cheese. As I was heading for a hefty spell in the MEL Flounge I should have chosen neither but I think there's zero calories at altitude

Breakfast MEL-SYD April 1st. Choice of hot breakfast or muesli. No contest really

I also have a gazillion photos and report (in my head) on the latest tasting menu in F LHR-DXB. One of these days I will stop procrastinating and post the stuff :p

MEL-BNE Dinner
Chicken Parmigiana

It's OK for the local pub but not a proper J meal. The chocolate and pear tart was good. Other options were thai beef salad or selection of cheese.
The wines on offer were Riesling from Clare Valley (very nice) and Shiraz from McLaren Vale that I never tried before.

One of the better reds I had in Dom J recently. CSM told me he got similar feedback from the other pax while opening the 3rd bottle ;)

You didn't like it?

I had it MEL -> PER the other month and thought it was pretty good. Tasty comfort food. Thought it was good for Dom.

It's missing a good serving of chips!

I agree it is something that I probably would order

It was alright, I was hungry and it filled me up.
Not complaining about the taste, it's just something I would expect to get inside a brown box in Y. Would be nice to see a bit more creativity in J. Some people (not me) do pay a lot of money for those seats. F&B is the major part that sets the difference between Dom Y and Dom J (at least on 737s).

Clearly you've been spoilt by all your recent F travel ;)

I thought this was much higher quality than what you get in Y. My chicken was tender and moist.

I agree about the creativity though, and whilst I thought this was tasty, I guess at the end of the day it's simply chicken on a plate...not much of a 'meal'

Comparing that to F is like Maccas to Attica :D
Thinking more seriously about what you've said I reckon I'm spoiled by the quality of meals in Dom Y. I think the dinner QF offers in Y is outstanding compared to other airlines. Take the fish & chips for example, put it in a nice plate, add lemon, a bit of dressing and you can serve it in J.
Honestly I don't see a big difference in food quality between Y and J but I do see a huge difference in the ticket price, almost 5 times more!
