Qantas booking through Japan Airlines (JAL) - Seat Selection

Hi All

Firstly apologies if this isn't the right location for this topic.

My Wife and I had our QF25 flight in May cancelled recently and as a result had Qantas book us on JL51 flight around the same date.

Has anyone had any experience with JAL and seat selection when booked via Qantas?

It says to contact JAL but I thought may be easier selecting via the website but I'm not sure on my corresponding JAL booking reference number.

Can anyone point me in the direction of best approach to find this info.

PS - fully aware I'm being too optimistic in that Japan will have borders open by mid-may

I'm even more optimistic: an overnight connection at the end of April. Pretty much hoping tourists from Australia would be let in by then, otherwise the night at the airport will be long and boring.
Another wishful thought is around the return trip in mid-May, coming from the EU which is currently even more restricted by the Japanese authorities than arrivals from Australia. That'd be just a daytime at the airport, bearable and doable though "not ideal".
All fingers and toes crossed...

Nice JAL call staff managed to put myself (OWE) and wife into bulkhead or exit row for the whole trip to Europe (usually only I would be entitled to free exit row)

The Japanese PM in a press conference after meeting Boris hinted at Japan opening up to tourists in June. Possibly first a few group tours in late May.
Many Japanese papers now reporting this. But won't be unlimited tourists

Hi all,
I'm experiencing exactly the same issue - however am receiving the below error message when trying to log into JAL to manage my booking.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm using the PNR provided from QF.

JAL website can be really picky about names. Make sure that you put your first and middle names which no spaces in the first name box. I have a hyphen in my surname that trips up the last name (remove that too).

Also note that the first and last name boxes are in the reverse order compared to how a westerner might expect them - that also caught me out once when I booked a ticked with JAL and put my names in the wrong order.

I thought a similar thing - however I've noticed if I've got the names wrong (by trying without my middle name, for instance, I get the below error message:

But when I do it with the correct names as per the booking, I get this:

I only made the booking this morning - but I wouldn't think this would be an issue?

Have you tried the RoyalJordanian MMB? Home - Royal Jordanian

Seems to give lower status OW pax more seating options. (i.e. I selected 1K on a JL flight though the RJ MMB, however the JL MMB wouldn't allow it, as it was blocked for higher status pax).

Ah, that's annoying. Well if all you need to do is change seats you can use the Royal Air Maroc Manage By Booking Manage Bookings - Royal Air Maroc

Works for me at least

All of my JAL bookings for September have dropped of the website and I got an email a week ago saying they were changing my booking. They appear to be flying to different European routes every second day so I assume that is why. In our case via FRA on the way and via CDG on the way back.
Hope it pops up soon but I will probably have lost all my exit rows.

Will keep you all informed (for those interested 🤣🤣🤣🤦‍♂️).

My JAL Sept bookings have changed as well.
JL48 has gone from a 9.5 hr flight HEL>HND to a 14 hr flight HEL>HND, and is now one day later so I have only 2 hrs to get to NRT instead of 30 hrs.

My JAL MEL>HND>CTS reward flight was cancelled too. They say they're going to send me new flight details within 72 hours. When I click on manage booking, there's no reward bookings available :eek:Hopefully they send me an alternate flight! The flights have become really expensive :(
