Hello frequent flyer guru's

Any info or advice would be much appreciated:

Is there no longer the option to book Business class classic award seats to nearly anywhere in the world(international from Australia) ie. Perth to Europe, or Sydney to LAX, etc even Perth to SING are virtually impossible.

all searches I try , to virtually all places overseas are not available with Business class seats. Even way in advance etc.
(((we have done this before from Perth-Sydney-Lax and return in 2011 all business class all on points)))

or is there a trick to trying to obtain these now???

please help.

many thanks in advance.

Depending on how much flying you are doing you might want to look at the 280K OneWorld RTW fares - there is a massive thread on the forum about it. Then you can access other carriers and get different routes out of Australia.

Emirates flights will become available shortly so that might help.

What dates, routes are you trying to get? How many seats are you looking for?

Hello ,
i have tried Perth-Rome , sing-London, Sydney/bris -LAX, PER-London , and probably another 5-10 different scenarios.
and tried all dates/months up to feb14.

it seems only Economy seats are avail on points.

Hi,

In a different thread about AA Aadvantage a member was reporting that there is a lot of availability with Malaysian Airlines in business class. Maybe Qantas online tool isn't showing Malaysian flights or you need to try different routing. Perhaps give the call centre a call and see if they can find a route that will work. Only a couple of thousand points to get their assistance and you may be able to talk them out of charging it sometimes.

Dale.

I'm also finding this curious. Looking at QF5 SYD to SIN at least 6 months in advance reveals plenty of Y and Y+ but nothing at the pointy end. I called QF to inquire on seat availability and was told that on the particular example I tested, there were about 60 J class seats unsold at this time. Funny thing is, I then went to the AA online awards booking engine and successfully held a business class seat on exactly the same flight/same date (for much less points and $ BTW). It seems that other carriers have better access through their own awards program to these seats than Qantas itself does ??!!

Do QF update or change the allocation of these seats throughout the year as the seats remain unsold?

Interestingly I generally had more J/F options when I had no status. These day I experience the above.

I just randomly threw dates in around Aug and found J (one stop usually via Brisbane) available every day and QF 5/6 avail 26 Aug/9 Sep as but one example.

Just the silly question if you have selected flexible dates to get the +/- 14 days are you ticking the boxes at the top for Prem, business and first? I know silly question :oops:but I am SG and have seen them

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

This is unlikely to help you other than confirm the difficulty in trying to obtain seats at the pointy end with QF. I too have had the same problem for years. I started flying with EK in 2008 and have been successful when booking a redemption ticket on every occasion in the past 5 years. I booked a redemption ticket in late December 2012 for travel on 1st Feb 2013 when Y was sold out. No problem for a J class seat both ways. Maybe, with the tie up, QF redemption ticketing opportunities will improve and match those of EK.

Anyone seeing QF5/6 availability better not get too excited that flight is gone after 15 April. Not sure why you're still seeing it in August/September.
