Qantas, Australia's new LCC?

Yes and still well ahead of Virgin Australia, and well ahead of any other carrier I have ever flow on routes equivalent to Qantas domestic. Eg Intra-europe, (where I have personally flown Air Chance, BA (about 70 times return), BMI, Iberia, TAP, SAS, Air Malta, Turkish, Croatian, Cyprus etc) and US domestic (flown AA and UA and Delta).

Its interesting you mention that, I understand Qantas has one of the best (if not the best) industry reputation in the world. Your comments line up with that notion.
Yes it will be interesting to see what happens to our domestic industry in the future.

And? Thats a good thing right? Having a fresh set of eyes to complete an analysis for an outside perspective. Similar sort of result once a new fresh CEO gets onboard (minus the pun)

Ok - have you flown on a true LCC like Ryan Air or Easy jet before?

'An analysis' ??????

Pardon me but I never knew you could analyse a substantial airline with a stock market worth some $2 billion dollars just from ONE single flight plus an absolute lack of access to premium services available to status members.

This is a public forum so anyone could 'fly a kite' but then it helps others to see its worth, if any.

Hit a few nerves ?

Certainly, it does hit my funny nerves seeing how some could reach a 'conclusion' in this manner after such an in-depth / searching 'analysis'.

And the comparison with the scenario of a new CEO giving a "fresh set of eyes" ?

A "CEO" with a singular experience in his/her life of the product to be critiqued ?

A psych term comes to mind i.e. illusions of grandeur

Well, I've just ground my way through this thread and it's clear to me that it's very much a "horses for courses" thing.

For mine - I fly exclusively with QF because I want comfort and I don't want delays. I have been uncomfortable on every VA seat I've ever sat on. I've been late on every VA flight I've taken, either TO or landing.( Ditto Jetstar to be fair). I've had 2 late failures with QF in 25 years, and by late I mean (As above VA/JQ) more than an hour.

The quality of service on QF absolutely murders VA and JQ on the sectors I fly, so way above LCC standards IMO

Maybe I'm just lucky but I will only fly VA or JQ as a dead-set absolute last resort - regardless of price.

Just today Virgin announced complementary drinks and snacks.

Wow, that's amazing [sarcasm]. I think it was since inception QF offered such a service on ALL routes, including a full meal on breakfast, lunch and dinner services. Alcohol after 4pm on weekdays (after 7pm also) has been much of the same.

Virgin is the LCC playing catchup.

In addition, should there be an issue on that aircraft, I know I'd prefer the seasoned professionalism of a QF crew vs. some twenty-something airheads.

Wow. So you would rather line up at a usually understaffed check in line and wait, (and sometimes wait and wait and even in the priority line....whilst someone in front with 10 bags argues about weight restrictions etc etc) so you can interact with someone to do the same thing?

The OP lost credibility with me this early.

Flights with partners via Qantas booking system, Frequent Flyer queries, car hire, hotel bookings ect ect ect.

To be honest you can have a vast amount of business with the Q group, and even move up status pretty quickly without even jumping onto a flight with the white kangaroo.

I think you mean etc , (not ect)

But really , one flight and a partner booking system, and that's a basis for comparison ?

Frankly this is just a bit silly.

QF has agreements that allow travel agents and suppliers using Sabre, Amadeus and Galileo, Worldspan and Apollo GDS to books seats and issue tickets for Qantas flights. It's pricing is published.

It provides 2, 3 and 4 class cabins on all main routes. (excepting QF link)

It runs first and business class lounges.

It provides snacks, beverages and meals to all ticket classes.

Included baggage allowances for all ticket classes.

It is a member of Oneworld and in a major alliance with EK.

It has it's own catering company, extensive ff program, maintenance crews and so on.

End.

I think it is us who are "silly" enough to keep responding to fluffy stuff masquerading as "analysis".

We took the bait and went for it at the same time recognising the vacuousness of the remarks.

Best to ignore it IMO

I have expected such responses, and yes as I pointed out in my first post the title would hit a few nerves, but is it really that far from the truth?? I believe it is closer than it once was, therefore this point of this thread.

Do we really think Qantas is still a full service provider? Do we think Qantas will be a full service in the future?

LOL. Qantas could be closer to a LCC than when it first started but Virgin is nowhere near Qantas and to me feels more like a LCC.

The future of Qantas largely depends on how quickly the current CEO is shown the door. He has been there way too long.

...
Anyone else who posts that this thread is about bagging Qantas ect, I believe the fanboi fourm is a few more clicks away...

I write this as someone who has been highly critical of Qantas: with that post, you have lost any credibility you may have had.
